Harold Ramis' Death Will Not Halt GHOSTBUSTERS III

Harold Ramis' Death Will Not Halt GHOSTBUSTERS III

Yesterday, Harold Ramis, who played Dr Egon Spengler in both Ghostbusters films, passed away. His death left many fans of the franchise wondering if progress on Ghostbusters III would grind to a halt. New info today says, it will not.

According to the Hollywood Reporter the Ghostbusters III script that is being currently being written by The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will have to be reworked based on Harold Ramis' death, but the film is still a go. A project insider told THR, "There will be some repercussions."
A studio source downplayed the impact on the project, however, insisting that Ramis was involved in Ghostbusters III only minimally. Ramis, who co-wrote the first two Ghostbusters, held a first-dollar gross stake in the third film along with Reitman, Aykroyd and Murray -- a position that will revert to his estate. But no deals have been inked yet, and there have been signs that the principals instead would take break-even cuts in order to get the film off the ground.

Their source goes on to say, "He was always great to bounce something off of, and that will certainly be missed. But it won't affect the script."

Er... it better be good than. IMO, and this maybe just me, cancel the film altogether.
DrDoom - 2/25/2014, 3:49 PM
If Murray hadn't been a dick and said no all these years, they wouldn't be in this situation.
Nick56 - 2/25/2014, 3:52 PM
Im sure Ramis would have wanted to see the movie move forward and if his role was minimal/cameo then I guess there isn't a major issue.

With Ramis gone and Murray not involved im not 100% on board with this, but hopefully it turns out well
MrCBM56 - 2/25/2014, 3:52 PM

Exactly how I feel.
Niklander - 2/25/2014, 3:52 PM
Ιt will be tough to make Ghostbusters 3 IMO Egon was the soul of the team.I am holding hopes that they will make it
marvel72 - 2/25/2014, 3:56 PM
can't see ghostbusters 3 ever happening.
JoeMomma29 - 2/25/2014, 4:02 PM
Maybe they can still include him as a ghost........
thor2273 - 2/25/2014, 4:02 PM
they should leave it at the video game they made a few years ago.
thor2273 - 2/25/2014, 4:04 PM
@JoeMomma29 I think that would be in poor taste
JoeMomma29 - 2/25/2014, 4:05 PM
@ Thor

You never know........
ThrotTheUnclean - 2/25/2014, 4:13 PM
It sucks that he died.
maninfinesuit - 2/25/2014, 4:14 PM
Ghostbusters 3, with minimal Egon and no Venkman? Why was this moving forward again? As it stands, with Mr. Ramis passing, they shouldn't be keeping on at all.
JoeMomma29 - 2/25/2014, 4:15 PM
Lets just hope they do not bring back Bobby Brown to do another song for the movie.........

maninfinesuit - 2/25/2014, 4:16 PM
Speaking of Jesse Eisenberg.

ShreckGT350 - 2/25/2014, 4:17 PM
Harold Ramis' death is just too fresh in my mind to talk about Ghostbusters 3, and this comes from someone who has wanted this movie to be made in the worst way. I just hope that however things go, that there is respect to the original cast and NO reboot. If it is a reboot, I will pass 100%.

RIP Harold Ramis...
JoeMomma29 - 2/25/2014, 4:18 PM
Never mind the that song just brought back some good memories.
Comedian03 - 2/25/2014, 4:19 PM
I really hope that this causes Bill Murray to rethink things and decide to come back to the series as a tribute to Ramis.
NebulaFields - 2/25/2014, 4:19 PM
No... lame. And yeah, Murry should've stopped acting a fool years ago and got this made. Seems to late now...
manofsteel1942 - 2/25/2014, 4:25 PM
If handled right I don't think using a CGI ghost of Ramis' character would be in bad taste. I'd give anything to see a CGI ghost version of my dad showing up to save the day at a climatic moment in a movie. Hell I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it....dammit...stupid imagination.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 2/25/2014, 4:26 PM
Never really wanted this film to begin with.
campblood - 2/25/2014, 4:26 PM
this movie is tainted now
InfiniteMonkey - 2/25/2014, 4:28 PM
I should hope not. We're talking about direct to DVD right? LOL!
maninfinesuit - 2/25/2014, 4:29 PM
If Murray's heart wasn't in it, I am glad he decided not to come back. His dramatic roles have been fantastic. I'll take the following over a halfassed Ghostbusters 3 any day.

JoeMomma29 - 2/25/2014, 4:30 PM
@ Manofsteel

Ummmmmm I want to laugh but I am not sure if I can?????
beane2099 - 2/25/2014, 4:31 PM
Let Ghost Busters stay a memory. No Ramis and Bill Murray won't do it. It's not worth it.
jp688 - 2/25/2014, 4:32 PM
Harold would not be pleased, and neither are any of the rest of us.
beane2099 - 2/25/2014, 4:33 PM
Or maybe I just can't see a Ghost Busters that can't have Harold Ramis in it.
manofsteel1942 - 2/25/2014, 4:33 PM
@ Joe

LOL....You can laugh...it's cool...sniff sniff.
JoeMomma29 - 2/25/2014, 4:36 PM
@ Manofsteel

Okay please confirm are you talking about Superman's father in MOS or are you actually talking about your real father?????
Hellboy6666 - 2/25/2014, 4:39 PM
Bring on the film and make Egon's ghost the villain. Hire medium to broker the deal.
dnno1 - 2/25/2014, 4:42 PM
The least they could do is dedicate it to his memory.
OpticBlastWins - 2/25/2014, 4:44 PM
I've been begging for this film for to long. Hopefully they can do something great and memorable in his honor.
pointman - 2/25/2014, 4:45 PM
I felt bad for Ramis and Ackroyd. They really seemed like good guys and just wanted to do some good comedy. Bill Murray wants to be a serious actor dipping his foot into a comedy project only if it is good. I have heard he can be difficult and I have heard that he will help the crew out when needed so it isn't black and white with him. Sometimes I just want to see those guys go back to the glory days, but I am sure they want to grow as actors as well and not cash in on something that isn't quality.
SweatyHands - 2/25/2014, 4:45 PM
This is a travesty. It should not continue without Ramis in any way. No discussion.
dnno1 - 2/25/2014, 4:47 PM
Indy - 2/25/2014, 4:53 PM
Not sure about this anymore what's point now Ramis gone Bill Murray doesn't want to do it why continue.
Mrcool210 - 2/25/2014, 4:58 PM
don't think thats the best idea to keep it going, the video game is a good 3rd insallment and thats that, that even had bill murray in it, that will feel more like ghostbusters 3 then this ever will
TheGreenBastard - 2/25/2014, 5:01 PM
If its brings Murray back, then okay. Otherwise I'm now not for this movie.
MarVell - 2/25/2014, 5:07 PM

Jhuntdaprodigy - 2/25/2014, 5:07 PM
I don't see the point of a Ghostbusters sequel with only one member of the original cast, that sounds retarded to me.
