We already have Batman Vs. Superman, Captain America 3, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and X-Men: Apocalypse set for 2016, but that year is about to get even busier with the addition of Harry Potter prequel/spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them...

Warner Bros. may have finished adapting the seven Harry Potter novels, but they're nowhere near ready to let that extremely profitable franchise go! While it won't star the titular character, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set in the same universe and takes place a number of years before the events seen in the previous eight movies. Based loosely on a book J.K. Rowling wrote for charity, it will be an original story and marks her screenwriting debut. When will you be able to see it? Well, it looks set to be Christmas 2016's big release! Excited?

This is why I am interested:

Set initially in New York about seven decades before the start of the Harry Potter story, the films will follow “magizoologist” Newt Scamander as an extension of the wizarding world — rather than being prequels or sequels.
batz11 - 5/13/2014, 1:15 PM
Wonder of SJP will make an appearance?
batcheeks8 - 5/13/2014, 1:15 PM
Why is this being made

Like, I know the reason (it's shiny and makes you happy) but still

MexicanSexyman - 5/13/2014, 1:16 PM
I would like to see movies based on the founding fathers of Hogwarts.
KingOnslaught - 5/13/2014, 1:16 PM
Meh!!! ill pass Harry Potter is so over hyped now we get this
MexicanSexyman - 5/13/2014, 1:18 PM
@batcheeks8, Just like every other big movie that has ever existed, money.
RR51 - 5/13/2014, 1:25 PM
If done in the lines of Indiana Jones films, this can quite good.
Joementum - 5/13/2014, 1:26 PM
Redbox $1.50, May 2017.

To all the rabid DC fans behold....this is the reason WB is so tied up and wont do a proper DCU set. Want a Flash or Wonder Woman film? Well not until they've squeezed every drop out of the HP franchise...

Oh but wait, then there's the inevitable reboot...LOL

They're almost as bad a FOX.
RetroFit - 5/13/2014, 1:47 PM
Another Harry Potter movie??

Starkasm - 5/13/2014, 1:48 PM
Can't wait.
TheAbomination - 5/13/2014, 1:53 PM
By then, the MCU will have already surpassed Harry Potter as the highest-grossing franchise of all time. So, yeah, bring it on.
Robe - 5/13/2014, 1:53 PM
No it is a Newt Scamander movie.
xXkryptoniteXx - 5/13/2014, 1:59 PM
Really? WB, really? Can you get DC movies off the ground aside from Batman and Superman?
Prime - 5/13/2014, 2:06 PM
How about Flash, WW, GL reboot, Aquaman, Shazam, Martian Manhunter, WB? F.U.C.K You.
charlie2094 - 5/13/2014, 2:12 PM
Interesting, could be cool.

People need to lay off with the Warners hate. I'm sure Warners does have other DC films planned, but they're a huge studio, still need to do films like this. Heck, this especially is a guaranteed money maker. More DC movies are coming, we know that
MARVELFAN1995 - 5/13/2014, 2:12 PM
I love the Harry Potter films don't get me wrong but, what is the point of this? It doesn't seem interesting at all. If they want to make a prequel, make it about the origins of Slytherin, Gryfindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff.
datNAMEtho - 5/13/2014, 2:38 PM
Bring on those beasties!
manofsteel1942 - 5/13/2014, 2:48 PM
Scene from the new spinoff.

Pedrito - 5/13/2014, 3:31 PM
Are we gonna get articles about Harry Potter spin-offs all the way until 2016?
Cuz how many people here really give a shit about that?
AlexanderLykins - 5/13/2014, 3:47 PM
I'll check it out.
sjarvis - 5/13/2014, 3:59 PM
2016 should set a boxoffice record for most money earned. Isn't Star Wars 7 coming out that year? I am quite sure this HP movie will do decent numbers. The book was BORING as it was an informational book. However seeing how the wizard learned all the BORING stuff should be a delight.
aRandomSinisterClone - 5/13/2014, 4:06 PM
harry potter movies always look great. its a cool world. should be awesome for kids.
UltimateHunt - 5/13/2014, 4:35 PM
Harry Potter??
repulse93 - 5/13/2014, 4:46 PM
I would normally agree that this is redundant, but JK is writing it herself. So I'll wait and see.
marvel72 - 5/13/2014, 5:10 PM
i hope godzilla is in it.
alamborn19 - 5/13/2014, 6:23 PM
uggh why dont they just be done with it and get DC a move on
Effusion - 5/13/2014, 6:54 PM
I heard that Gandalf will appear on a unicorn in this one
beto - 5/13/2014, 6:55 PM
Matt Smith for Newt

Hugh Laurie for Minister of Magic

Daniel Craig for badass auror

Plus some American Guys (I think the movie is set in NY after all)
beto - 5/13/2014, 7:02 PM
I want to see Morgan Freeman as a NY 20's Dumbledore-esque figure.
maninfinesuit - 5/13/2014, 8:35 PM
Very excited to see where Rowling takes this world next.
MightyZeus - 5/13/2014, 9:14 PM
It's set in the world of Harry Potter so i am looking forward to the film.

Hopefully the film will cast Idris Elba in the lead.
WarnerBrother - 5/13/2014, 10:51 PM

That's a Thanksgiving release (in the states of course) not a Christmas one being that it comes out in November not December.
WarnerBrother - 5/13/2014, 10:52 PM
Since the story is set in New York will Rowling drop her demand that only British and Irish actors fill the roles in Potter films?
WarnerBrother - 5/13/2014, 11:04 PM

Rabid DC fans would be happy just to see Wonder Woman,Green Lantern,Aquaman and The Flash interacting with Batman and Superman which is exactly what we are getting. That being DC big guns in one film which is something Marvel fanatics can't seem to get over with Spider-Man,The Fantastic Four and X-Men hanging at other studios.

If those characters catch on they will get a solo film other wise I'm perfectly happy seeing Justice League team ups and solo Batman and Superman films.

Talk about squeezing every drop out of a franchise, look at Marvel making CBMs about GOTG and Antman. Who really is demanding an Antman film? I bet a lot more people care about expanding the Potter world then that.
WarnerBrother - 5/13/2014, 11:13 PM
People have gotten so used to Marvel Studios holding their hands and spoon feeding them plans years in advance. Calm down and wait for WB to explain itself during comic con when it should lay out some plans (other then BVS) for other films.Relax,2016 is already covered with one DC film and a second will likely drop in 2017 with Justice League. There is plenty of time to wait for news on other DC film projects after that.
