Hugh Jackman In Talks To Play 'Blackbeard' In PAN

The man known round these parts as The Wolverine is in negotiations to play his first fully fledged villain in Warner Bros.' new take on the classic Peter Pan tale: notorious pirate Blackbeard. Read on for more details.

According to Variety, Hugh Jackman is in negotiations to play the pirate Blackbeard in Joe Wright's Pan. We had heard that Javier Bardem was Warner Bros.' first choice to play the villain, but after he passed they went to Jackman. The X-Men actor seems dead set of playing a bad guy, as he was apparently also weighing up the antagonist role in WB's remake of The Incredible Mr. Limpet. This new origin story for Peter Pan is said to revolve around "an orphan who is taken to the magical world of Neverland where he becomes a hero to the natives and leads a revolt against the evil pirates". Captain Hook will be in the movie too, but he'll start out as Pan's friend before betraying him. Variety also report that Ryan Gosling was in line to play the Hook role but declined. WB are expected to do an open casting for the title role of Peter Pan, and are also looking for an actress in her mid-20s to play Tiger Lily.

TheRationalNerd - 12/18/2013, 3:05 PM
I can see it too! lol Jackman is a total boss when it comes to sporting beards!
jerryblake - 12/18/2013, 3:05 PM
but will he sing ?
Nomis - 12/18/2013, 3:05 PM
As much as I think Hugh Jackman is WRONG as Wolverine....I always thought he'd be perfect for James Hudson/Guardian of alpha Flight!

MexicanSexyman - 12/18/2013, 3:09 PM
@Nomis, how is Jackman wrong for Wolverine? Don't tell it's because Jackman is to tall?
jerryblake - 12/18/2013, 3:10 PM
they should do a Clint Eastwood biography and cast Jackman for the lead. Also, if someone out there is thinking about give us new Harry Callahan movie ...
Hugh for the lead.
OnePunchBaldy - 12/18/2013, 3:11 PM
What about Captain Hook?
OnePunchBaldy - 12/18/2013, 3:12 PM

It's because he doesn't look like a cartoon.
DumbledoreCalrissian - 12/18/2013, 3:12 PM
i prefer captain hook as the villain.
OnePunchBaldy - 12/18/2013, 3:13 PM
If The Rock isn't in this then I'm not watching.
thewonderer - 12/18/2013, 3:14 PM
Nomis makes no sense to me.

How can Jackman be wrong for Wolverine if HE IS Wolverine?
MexicanSexyman - 12/18/2013, 3:15 PM
@jerryblake, I always thought Jackman looked a little like Clint Eastwood.
@ spideyboy, haha.
TheVirgin - 12/18/2013, 3:16 PM
Is this what Nik was talking about? A mixed with Silence of the Lambs??
MexicanSexyman - 12/18/2013, 3:16 PM
@thewonderer, so true on both things you said.
TheVirgin - 12/18/2013, 3:16 PM
Oh wait, that is not captain hook.
jerryblake - 12/18/2013, 3:17 PM
Nomis is fanatic X-Men fan :)
He can't stand Fox/Singer intepretation of the X-Men comics.

jerryblake - 12/18/2013, 3:19 PM
Many people can't.

Neverless it's already happened and it would be healthy to move on ;)
OnePunchBaldy - 12/18/2013, 3:20 PM
So it's basically X-Men First Class meets Peter Pan with Peter and Hook being friends and then turn enemies at the end after the beat a common enemy and something happens.
SuperCat - 12/18/2013, 3:20 PM
I can see him playing a pirate.
DangerRoom - 12/18/2013, 3:21 PM
I can see it! Hugh is one of those actors who is a complete chameleon. He can do anything!
MexicanSexyman - 12/18/2013, 3:23 PM
@yossarian, that old hairy bastard could play sabertooth or beast.
Karmatron - 12/18/2013, 3:23 PM
hugh jackman should play a Wolverine with costume and hunch a little or let cgi make him look shorter than he is and he would be the DEFINITIVE WOLVERINE

say it aint so
IDKwhatToChoose - 12/18/2013, 3:25 PM
@Indy RIGHT!!! I can't believe we are the only two to wonder where Captain Hook is in a Peter Pan movie!!!
IDKwhatToChoose - 12/18/2013, 3:25 PM
@cipher Well if that's the case then I am def. I freakin pirate LOL
jerryblake - 12/18/2013, 3:27 PM
he is. Gosling was up for the role but declined. Hook is Peter friend and the one who betray him.
Nomis - 12/18/2013, 3:28 PM
@ MexicanSuperman - He's too tall. ;)

And...He's not hairy.

Too much of a pretty boy.

Never pull off a really ferocious beserker rage in any movie when he's attacking someone, but look like he's constipated.

He's the epitome of an example of Hollywood director and producers not getting why long time fans like a certain character but casting someone because they want to reach a certain demographic (and that ain't comic book fans).

And I actually think he'e a good actor (go see Les Mis) But he's NEVER been good as Wolverine to me!
holeymonkey - 12/18/2013, 3:31 PM
Danny Devito for Puck!
Nomis - 12/18/2013, 3:32 PM
@ thewonderer - THIS is Wolverine... bad casting!

JoJo1982 - 12/18/2013, 3:32 PM
After seeing Hugh have the beard in The Wolverine

and a very underrated movie called Prisoners

He can pull off being a badass as Blackbeard
JoJo1982 - 12/18/2013, 3:33 PM
[email protected]

LMAO.... wolverine lost that fight

DrDoom - 12/18/2013, 3:35 PM
Another Peter Pan movie?

113 - 12/18/2013, 3:35 PM
That's a great choice. Phenomenal actor.
jerryblake - 12/18/2013, 3:37 PM
i think Hugh started to change as an actor. First Les Miserables, then The Wolverine. Then Prisoners.

I still have to see Les Miserables and Prisoners though to fully appreciate his talent.

TheSisko - 12/18/2013, 3:43 PM
After Jack and the beanstalk Warner Bros should leave fairy tales to Disney.
Ramiel - 12/18/2013, 3:45 PM
Wasn't Blackbeard in the last Pirates movie?

Also, Jackman is Wolverine.
Ramiel - 12/18/2013, 3:45 PM
So, WB is making a Peter Pan movie and a Jungle Book movie? Disney much?
RetroFit - 12/18/2013, 3:50 PM
Blackbeard? In Peter Pan? Jesus [frick]ing Christ, why does Hollywood have to [frick] up everything they get their hands on.
Hemsey - 12/18/2013, 3:52 PM
RorMachine post? I do not trust...
MexicanSexyman - 12/18/2013, 4:00 PM
@Nomis, I think you are over exaggerating on the whole Hollywood stuff you mentioned. And plus, no actor has played 100% true to their characters. Even Christopher Reeve, Robert Downey Jr., Christian Bale, Tom Hiddleston, Tobey Maguire, Patrick Stewart, Ian McAllen, and many other great actors, that have played comic book characters, play a watered down version of their characters. It's cool that you don't like Jackman as Wolverine, I just wanted to know why.
