Most people know that Transformers: Age of Extinction is the current box office champ of 2014, but do you know which film is second? It's Disney's Maleficent! Yup. This plucky film has grossed more at the worldwide box office than 20th Century Fox's X-Men: Days of Future Past, Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Yet, I don't hear many people talking about that very fact. Seems like kind of a big deal. Guess that is a another feather in the cap for female-driven films.

“Maleficent” is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

Maleficent is being directed by Robert Stromberg, based on a screenplay by Paul Dini and Linda Woolverton. The cast includes: Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple, Sam Riley, Miranda Richardson and Imelda Staunton. Will land in theaters May 30, 2014.

Dat artwork. Very well done. If only it was for a better movie.

@Wombraider In my opinion Maleficent is a way better movie than Oz.

I didn't expect much from this movie. But then I watched it, and I was beyond impressed! It's a work of art, a true fantasy. After seeing this I just thought about how awesome it would be if Narnia were made with such fantastic fantasy.

Lol, polar opposite opinions. I thought it was worth a see, as long as you're not paying much. It had memorable moments, and one big surprise (which I predicted early in the movie), but I won't spoil it.

Okay, two big surprises, if you count the [spoilers]. That, I predicted as well. Not to brag :P

That film could have been better making Maleficent as an anti-heroine just didn't quite work.It started good with why Maleficent hated Prince Stefan but they should have just moved on with the original story afterwards

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this movie. It didn't make sense that she was called MALeficent from the very beginning though.
