Maisie Williams May Play 'Ellie' In THE LAST OF US; Promo Poster Revealed

Though nothing is set in stone, writer Neil Druckmann and producer Sam Raimi have confirmed during a surprise Comic-Con panel that Williams (Arya in Game Of Thrones) is the girl they want to play the female lead role of Ellie in their movie adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game.

We've known there was a big-screen take on the excellent Last Of Us video game in the works for a while now, but today at SDCC the film's writer (Neil Druckmann) and producer (Sam Raimi) held a surprise panel to discuss it. Druckmann revealed that they've met with Game Of Thrones' actress Maisie Williams for the role of Ellie; the young girl who may hold the key to the survival of the human race in the game's story. Apparently nothing’s locked down, but Druckman urged audience members to ask Williams about the roll later on during the Game of Thrones panel. "I think it's going to be a great character journey and a great love story, and a great horror picture," Raimi added. No director or release date as of yet, but what would you guys think of Williams in the role? They also released this promo poster:

Like her, never played the games, don't care, although wasn't the character purposely made to look like Ellen Page?
charlie2094 - 7/25/2014, 12:45 PM
That'd be cool casting, can't think of anyone else for the role so why not.
themidnightking - 7/25/2014, 12:46 PM
1) Joel is pretty old

2) I wanted Chloe Moretz for Ellie (sue me)

3) I'm still eager to see this movie
MrCBM56 - 7/25/2014, 12:46 PM
They're making this a movie? WHYYYYYYYYY?!
MrCBM56 - 7/25/2014, 12:47 PM
@LubedUp Huh? Didn't she do mo-cap for the character?
ALegendaryPanda - 7/25/2014, 12:47 PM
ImInteresting - 7/25/2014, 12:48 PM
Sounds good
MrCBM56 - 7/25/2014, 12:48 PM
Get Josh Brolin to be Joel
PAF - 7/25/2014, 12:49 PM

No she didn't. They used her likeness tho. the waitress from Avengers did the mo-cap and the voice.
Gaebora - 7/25/2014, 12:49 PM
@MrCBM56 She did mo-cap for Beyond: Two Souls. She actually was pretty pissed, that the charakter in The Last Of Us looked so much like her.
MrCBM56 - 7/25/2014, 12:49 PM
They better keep the same ending. Thee ending was PERFECT.
charlie2094 - 7/25/2014, 12:50 PM

No, Ellen Page didn't have anything to do with Last of Us, did another game called 'Beyond: Two Souls'.

Like Hugh Jackman to be Joel, think that'd be awesome.
Darth258 - 7/25/2014, 12:50 PM
@MrCBM56 No, she did it for Beyond: Two Souls.
MrCBM56 - 7/25/2014, 12:51 PM
Ohhh. Ok, thanks guys. She looked and sounded like her.

MrCBM56 - 7/25/2014, 12:52 PM
@charlie2094 Hugh Jackman as Joel would be awesome, too.
Pasto - 7/25/2014, 12:52 PM
Better question:
Do we need this as a film?
AlphaMasterFlex - 7/25/2014, 12:52 PM
The Last of Us is garbage

Beyond Two Souls is Underrated
Superheromoviefan - 7/25/2014, 12:53 PM
spot on casting
Klone - 7/25/2014, 12:53 PM
Not bad casting I suppose.
Klone - 7/25/2014, 12:53 PM
Screw Ellen Page. I dislike her anyways.
Klone - 7/25/2014, 12:54 PM

Well, the character itself was never designed to look attractive, merely average.
LubedUp - 7/25/2014, 12:54 PM
I've learnt that GoT stars can't pull off American accents though, so...we'll see.
MrCBM56 - 7/25/2014, 12:54 PM
@AlphaMasterFlex You're crazy.
MrCBM56 - 7/25/2014, 12:56 PM
It's always funny to me when people bash the ending to this game. I guess they didn't understand it.
Lemons - 7/25/2014, 1:01 PM
Cast The Hound as Joel.
TonyChu - 7/25/2014, 1:02 PM
Ellen Page is not going to be Ellie. She seems to be a bit older to play the role now. And on top of it she was not too pleased that Ellie looked like her in the first place without her consent. She was already working on Beyond Two Souls and was pretty confused by Naughy Dog decision to make Ellie seem just like her. But she and Naughty Dog made amends.
TonyChu - 7/25/2014, 1:03 PM
Josh Brolin for Joel!!
Also can't wait for Tuesday to buy the The Last of Us remastered.
MecoBoy - 7/25/2014, 1:04 PM
No no no no no mames

Pinche Hollywood, como la caga, la pura neta.. pinches putos q no tienen imaginación
Klone - 7/25/2014, 1:04 PM

I've only seen Harington and Clarke attempt the American accent.
SpiderFraud - 7/25/2014, 1:05 PM
I'm down with this. Why the hell not.
JerBear - 7/25/2014, 1:06 PM
Ryan Newman should play Ellie
SpiderFraud - 7/25/2014, 1:10 PM
I would love a Portal movie!

charlie2094 - 7/25/2014, 1:11 PM

Gabe Newell was at an event last year with JJ Abrams and they said they were working together to see if they could do a Half-Life & Portal movie. Sure they'll both happen :D
LubedUp - 7/25/2014, 1:12 PM
@Klone Yeah same, Harington was mediocre and Clarke, despite my love for her was terrible.
UltimateDCandMarvel24 - 7/25/2014, 1:14 PM
I don't know why they need to make this into a movie ,however Hollywood could prove me wrong.
SwanRonson - 7/25/2014, 1:15 PM
I love Maisie Williams to death. Her and Hugh Jackman or Josh Brolin.

DeusExSponge - 7/25/2014, 1:16 PM
When The Last of Us was revealed at the VGA, Ellie was basically Ellen Paige. However after people saw the similarity between the two, Naughty Dog altered her appearance to an extent and made it so that she looked somewhat younger.

Here's the before and after comparison if anyone wanted to see the changes.
driver - 7/25/2014, 1:17 PM
Will hold my judgment until I am sure movie will start shooting and set photos gonna leak.
