Check out this brand new promo poster for the first installment of Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, featuring our first look at the members of the White Council - Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, and Saruman - gathered together in Rivendell..

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Once again, big thanks to Jonas Jakobsen for the heads up. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14th.

It's so freaking weird seeing a villain as a good guy and seeing something this different when it's been so long since lord of the rings,I'm stoked!
JDUKE25 - 10/2/2012, 8:00 AM
Looks pretty awesome. I'll probably end up seeing it in theaters.

World's coolest 90-year-old Lee: Christopher or Stan? Discuss.
Battabing - 10/2/2012, 10:37 AM
I'm surprised Christopher Lee came back for this.
batfan175 - 10/2/2012, 11:12 AM
@battabing: if you knew anything about christopher lee you'd know it's no surprise at all.
TheDpool - 10/2/2012, 11:25 AM
Forgot all about Christopher Lee in Lord of the Rings (Haven't watched them in ages).

Wonder if they will show him in the stages of being tempted to the Power of mordor

Wow, after all these year, I am pleasantly surprised that Christopher Lee managed to make it to The Hobbit without.... you know... dying and stuff

All Chistopher Lee's work is genuinely his.He wins hands down.No contest.Plus he's really the illegitimate son of a real Italian Count (not Transylvanian I know, but close enough!) lol
FoxForce5 - 10/2/2012, 3:10 PM
This isn't really The White Council, it's missing Radagast the Brown and Círdan, the Shipwright of the Grey Havens, not to mention, possibly, Arahad I, Glorfindel (who was replaced in the LotR movies by Live Tyler's Arwen), Erestor and Celeborn (who was, actually, in the LotR films).

- I'm looking forward to seeing them all.

Cirdan rules!
jj2112 - 10/3/2012, 5:19 AM
It will be a great movie, I only wish that Ian Holm had been young enough to play Bilbo and keep continuity with LOTR, but Freeman will be great.
jj2112 - 10/3/2012, 5:27 AM
I'm sure you won't see any of these characters in the movie... I would have liked to see Imrahil and Ghan-buri-Ghan in LOTR, among others (not Bombadil, BTW) but you can't have those many characters, otherwise audiences will find the movie confusing.
manofmidgard - 10/3/2012, 7:11 AM
*sigh* it's shopped. all the pics are from LOTR. it is done very well though i must say. cool idea. too bad its fake, woulda loved to see more christopher lee as saruman.

can't wait for this movie to come out.
