Richard Armitage Teases "The Battle Of Five Armies" In THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN

Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield) talks here about his excitement to be involved in the filming of "The Battle Of Five Armies" for The Hobbit: There And Back Again, while second unit director Andy Serkis also teases the epic scale of the fight sequence!

The news that The Hobbit was being split into three movies was met with a mixed reaction from fans, but perhaps the best part about the announcement was the fact it meant we will get to see "The Battle of Five Armies" brought to the big screen. It hasn't even been shot yet, but talking to Empire Magazine recently, Richard Armitage had this to say about the battle sequence. "It's been put aside until next year, thankfully," he joked. "It's this big thing looming over us. I'm predicting about ten weeks for the shoot because it's an extensive battle and each character is going to have their 'hero' moment on the battlefield. It's a manic fight in the air - the eagles are fighting bats - and on the ground, and I can't wait to see what Pete does with that." That's right, the battle will see men, elves, dwarves, orcs and eagles all facing off for the future of Middle-Earth! It falls to second unit director Andy Serkis to handle the action, but he isn't letting the pressure get to him. "It's going to be intense beyond belief. It's going to be extraordinary - that's all I can say." The Hobbit: There And Back Again is set to be released on July 18th, 2014.

one of the reasons I've always liked the hobbit more than lord of the rings. i just liked the end battle a lot more than pelennor fields

The Hobbit was awesome-sauce. Can't wait!
Nomis1800 - 12/25/2012, 5:19 AM
So the Battle of the Five armies wasn't even going to be in it?!
Christuffer - 12/25/2012, 5:30 AM
@Nomis1800 - Yes. Remember when they said that the main reason for splitting the book into three parts was because they had so much extra footage?

This is why. Like Jackson said, "I think this book was a bit more eventful than most people remember"

Okay, okay, hold on there for a moment - there was never really a chance they wouldn't do The Battle of the Five Armies, right?! Cause that would've been just incredibly lame - it's THE battle in The Hobbit, even if it is only retold in the book.

I wasn't too excited about them saying they'd make three movies, and after watching An Unexpected Journey I felt that it really wasn't the best decision ever. Too much unneccessary stuff bloating up the story. But alright, it was enjoyable nonetheless.

But to imagine that there might have been arguments like "3 movies or no Battle of the Five Armies" kinda pisses me off. Ah well...

Pick your battle guys and I choose BATTLE FOR FIVE ARMIES. I know nothing bout it but I love LoTR, I loved the Hobbit, PJ goes without saying how awesome he is at this. Can' wait for the next film. I have faith.

So if they hadn't included the Battle of the Five Armies then nothing would have happened to Thorin, Fili and Kili?

Im not big on the LOTR series, but the battle that I would have paid money to see on screen would be the war of the last alliance (merely skimmed through in on of the 1st films) or the war of wrath.

I might still go see this particular movie though.

And Facade, that GIF is giving me seizures.

I'm sure the Battle of the Five Armies will rival the Battle of Helms Deep (my personal favorite) or the Battle of Pelennor Fields. It should be pretty, freaking epic!!!
Nomis1800 - 12/25/2012, 11:08 AM
@Christuffer: thanks!

And that GIF from SMAUG is bloody AWESOME!!!!!!

I actually enjoyed The Hobbit more then the LOTR trilogy and I loved those movies. I guess The Hobbit has a closer place to my heart since I watched the old cartoon over and over as a kid. Can't wait for the next 2!:)
StarkAnthony - 12/25/2012, 5:27 PM
wait, when this was two movies they were going to leave out the battle? You have be kidding me, no way PJ would pass up that kind of action. He already stretches brief mentions of action into twenty minute scenes
TheRaven20 - 12/25/2012, 8:43 PM
No they were always going to shoot it but its been pushed back. Remember it was always going to be in the last film of the series whether it would be the 2nd or 3rd film, so they could have still filmed it after Unexpected Journey yet it still be in part 2. I'm sure there plan was to shoot it around the time of the first's release or after all along but they've pushed it back even further.
Robe - 12/26/2012, 12:34 AM
Well it does have:

Elves, Dwarves, Humans, Goblins, Orcs, Wargs, Giant Eagles, Giant Bats, a Hobbit, a wizard and man who turns into a bloody big bear
rondz123 - 12/26/2012, 3:31 AM
@Facade- how did you get such a great quality pic...

I cant wait for the battle but just how are the eagles going to fight small bats?? Maybe a few will be huge.
Facade - 12/26/2012, 6:56 AM
@rondz123...grabbed it from one's FB.
Kyos - 12/26/2012, 10:36 AM
Whatever I may think of the concept of a Hobbit trilogy - if they get Beorn and Smaug right I can't help but love them all!
FoxForce5 - 12/26/2012, 8:22 PM
@ Robe & Kyos: Beorn is one of my favorite characters and I'm looking very forward to seeing him brought to life!
