Stephen Dorff Says He Would Much Rather Be In Immortals Than "Some Super-Hero Movie"

Like Blade perhaps? While chatting to LA Times' Hero Complex Dorff discusses his role in Tarsem's Immortals, his career, as well as the movies he likes doing and those he doesn't..

Stephen Dorff has had a bit of a roller-coaster career. Back in the day he seemed primed and ready to become Hollywood's next big thing and a bonafide leading man. But that fizzled out a little. Dorff has still worked pretty consistently though and delivered solid performances, a standout being his role as the Vampiric villain in Blade. Now he is back in the limelight thanks to roles in Sofia Coppola's Somewhere and Tarsem Singh's Immortals in which he plays a "Han Solo" type character named Stavros. While discussing all of this with Geoff Boucher over at Hero Complex Dorff reveals the type of movies he usually goes for, and suggests that if he had to do a big budget effects driven flick, he would rather it not be a CBM!..

“I’m a fan of all kinds of movies,” Dorff said, “but as an actor, the movies I’ve been drawn to are more character-driven movies and they give you time to really know characters and spend time on them and their stories. The ‘big movie’ is a different thing but when it comes to doing a visual-effects movie, I’d much rather be in ‘Immortals’ than making some superhero movie or one of these franchises where it feels like you’ve just generated the same thing over and over. Whatever I do, I always hope it comes out somewhat original and this was definitely a chance to do that.”

ComicBuzz - 11/7/2011, 12:59 PM
Sounds a little bit sour faced! Nice catch!
headlopper - 11/7/2011, 1:08 PM
He was already in "some superhero movie". Hypocrite.
P862010 - 11/7/2011, 1:08 PM

Cross - 11/7/2011, 1:38 PM
Shut the [frick] up already! 13 [frick]ing years since the first blade and his career is still shit! quite a [frick]ing achievement, asshole and don't take out your anger on this genre because you haven't done shit worth remembering!
AlexDeLarge87 - 11/7/2011, 1:52 PM
Decent actor who like StrangerX said just needs a better agent.
HelaGood - 11/7/2011, 1:56 PM
Dorff is lame
THEMIGHTOFTHOR - 11/7/2011, 1:57 PM
sound like he has a little wang! boo hoo is all i hear! ummm man who wouldnt want 2make millions wearing tights and be adored by fans and it must suck 2 be a comicbook hero man. haha....he sucks balls ......but yeaaaaaa thor rules!!!
dancingmonkey08 - 11/7/2011, 1:59 PM
[frick] YOU DORFF, the first time I read oe of his anti-comic movie comments, ok he was expressing an opinion and I respected it. I didnt agree, but I respected it

But now he just sounds like one of those butthurt trolls you would get on here sometimes

And tbh, Immortals looks horrible, gimme Batman or the Avengers any day of the week. And that Deacon Frost, spinoff would have been the biggest pile of shit, we had a luck escape

I really really hate you Dorff, go away you crap excuse for a human being. Your movies suck, your Deacon Frost was terrible and you have done nothing to ever be memorable

Please in future Ror, post interesting news and not this hack's stupid opinions

@Cross, you said it perfectly

RorMachine - 11/7/2011, 2:00 PM
Dancimgmonkey, and miss out on rants like that? NEVERRRR!:)
nowtheresaBATman - 11/7/2011, 2:06 PM
yeah right if Nolan or Snyder came calling he'd pee himself
ManOfKrypton - 11/7/2011, 2:07 PM
Have any of you seen Tarsem Singh's Filmography? He only makes original films.... I highly recommend The Fall, great story telling.... And the guy is not in it for the money, he only makes films that he wants to make very much like Darren Aronofsky and Terrence Malick.
DarthGeoffPeterson - 11/7/2011, 2:07 PM
This from the guy who starred in that wonderful piece of cinema: "Alone In The Dark"! Lol, great way to pick those movie that focus on character development.
Deathlok - 11/7/2011, 2:08 PM
“but as an actor, the movies I’ve been drawn to are more character-driven movies and they give you time to really know characters and spend time on them and their stories."

Yes, because Batman Begins is totally not character driven. Pffff. Please.
marvel72 - 11/7/2011, 2:11 PM
dorff is a dick.

as if anyone would greenlight a deacon frost solo movie.
WarnerBrother - 11/7/2011, 2:12 PM
Keep in mind this could be as much a reaction against the constant barrage of Superman questions being put to Cavill at the press junkets as it is about Dorff's real opinion about CBM's.
RorMachine - 11/7/2011, 2:12 PM
manofkrytop has a point, don't write off Immortals just because it looks a bit 300ish. Tarsem is pretty much a visual genius, and his movies are all at the very least watchable. The Fall being a masterpiece imo.
FATMANGOBOOM - 11/7/2011, 2:15 PM
That is it... Boycott immortals lol
marvel72 - 11/7/2011, 2:16 PM
what i've seen of the fall was very good,i don't think i even finished it.
patriautism - 11/7/2011, 2:23 PM
The best Stephen Dorff movie will always be The Gate..
write33 - 11/7/2011, 2:25 PM
he was in Blade....does his comment mean he's taking a dig at it? cause Blade was not a bad movie at all. lame.
and Immortals looks damn entertaining.
Emjeed - 11/7/2011, 2:28 PM
LMAO.. he's pissed cos no one is asking about his character.. cos everyone is asking Cavill about Superman and he's sort of a sidekick in this movie since he's a supporting character.. and to think i kinda liked him in blade ... oh well..
Bandrews1 - 11/7/2011, 2:28 PM
I always thought he was a good actor, but he fell off and wasn't really heard of for awhile, I didn't even know he was still working.
JackBauer - 11/7/2011, 2:28 PM
This dickhead is annoying as [frick]. He was willing to suck anyone's dick a while back to get a Deacon Frost spinoff, but now he's too good for CBMs? He should be thankful he still gets any acting jobs, and isn't working at the local McDonalds.
Mrcool210 - 11/7/2011, 2:29 PM
shut up stephen dorf, your not even a good actor, hell you dont even have a career
JackBauer - 11/7/2011, 2:29 PM
No offense meant to anyone working at the local McDonalds.
trippvaneasille - 11/7/2011, 2:32 PM
Hey--He can always send the check back or give it to charity!!!!
headlopper - 11/7/2011, 2:33 PM
Deacon Frost blew up anyhow. Guy's apple sauce!

BooYah - 11/7/2011, 2:37 PM
I wouldn't want to do a super hero movie either. I'd have to deal with all you fanboys.
Greengo - 11/7/2011, 2:38 PM
what a dorffus

good Frost though.
headlopper - 11/7/2011, 2:41 PM
@BooYah- What about 'fan-men'?
jj72 - 11/7/2011, 2:46 PM
LOL....sour grapes. There are much better actors out there that have no problems doing CBM and other types of films.

Christian Bale > Stephen Dorff
Robert Downy Jr > Stephen Dorff
NeoBaggins - 11/7/2011, 2:47 PM
Angry Nerd sequence: Activated
m73 - 11/7/2011, 2:52 PM
This guy plays an asshole very very well. Such a good actor :)
pro346 - 11/7/2011, 2:59 PM
I've seen an advanced screening of this very good!!
EarOne - 11/7/2011, 3:09 PM
you'd get more time with a character and its development IN a franchise than a one-shot movie, like Immortals, you moron.

but...yeah...he should just shut da heck up, already.
Bodwulf - 11/7/2011, 3:10 PM
I do not even know who he is.
Greengo - 11/7/2011, 3:15 PM
Lmao @neobaggins : )
