After Acquiring LucasFilm, Disney Now Setting Its Sights On Hasbro?

This past weeks has been a buzz with the landmark announcement that Disney bought LucasFilm. Now, a report has come out that Disney isn't done, and is looking to acquire toy giant Hasbro.

Disney and George Lucas shocked the world last week, when they announced that Lucas had sold his LucasFilm studio, which includes the rights to Star Wars and most of its characters, to media giant. News and rumors have been pouring in as to when to expect more Star Wars related material, Disney has possibly turned their attention to buying up another company with more film and toy opportunities, Hasbro. According to MTV, Disney has been in contact with Hasbro about acquiring them. As of right now it is just talk, but the talks are serious enough that an announcement could be made at any day.

A move like this would normally take time, but Disney has been moving fast while trying to get deals done. It reportedly only took them 6 months to hammer out a deal with Lucas for LucasFilm. What also makes this interesting is that Hasbro holds the toy and table top game licenses to already owned Marvel, and newly bought Star Wars.

What that means for movies, is likely to be the same for the way it has worked with Marvel. Really the only active movie franchises that Hasbro has going right now is G.I. Joe and Transformers, both of which are parked at Paramount. MTV's report states that Disney could easily change that.

As of right now none of this is concrete it is only rumored. So make sure you take this info with a grain of salt. With Disney looking to buy Hasbro it looks as if they are trying to put a strangle hold on not only theme park and movie world, but the toy world as well. I can't wait for Walt Disney to wake up and find he owns the world. Maybe that's what this is all about. Disney plotting world domination through media so he can wake up to a world he's ruler of.... Too much weed.

HavocPrime - 11/5/2012, 12:54 PM
Mother of god... why can't they buy back some of the film rights, but then it doesn't surprise me that Fox will hold onto those til the day they die.
StarkRaving - 11/5/2012, 12:56 PM
Disney is NOT a monopoly.

They'd become a monopoly:
- in film production, if bought out Paramount, Universal, Warner Brothers, and Sony
- in broadcast television production, if they bought out CBS, NBC and FOX (they already own ABC)
- in theme parks, if they bought out Universal, Six Flags, Sea World, Cedar Fair, and a few others
- in toy manufacturing, if they bought out both Hasbro and Mattel (and possibly Spin Master)

kirynthemighty - 11/5/2012, 1:05 PM
Yeah, people who are sayin Monopoly...really look up the definition of that word people. NOT a monopoly, its good business. Not to mention you think Disney is bad?? LOOK AT MICROSOFT!! Whenever they have any kind of competition pop up, they will turn around and buy the company most of the time.
SwingsetKnight - 11/5/2012, 1:09 PM
Feel the might of the mouse, Hasbro.

Ranger14 - 11/5/2012, 1:09 PM
Looks like the monopoly comment has been handled. My work is finished before I even started. :-P

Ya know...What if Disney bought out Dark Horse????

I mean, since DH is publishing Star Wars books,i'm surprised it hasn't happened already..

Though the thought of Disney marketing The Goon and Hellboy at their theme parks does make me chuckle....

Nice Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy reference. Mad props to KANEVONDOOM for being able to quote HGTTG and have it make sense to something going on now.

This just in: inside sources say Disney in talks to take over Toho Films, Roger Cornan Studios, Futurama, The BBC, Martha Stewart Living, the Honey Baked Ham Company, Colorforms, Richard Simmons Sweatin' to the Oldies, Space:1999, Third Rock from the Sun, ALF, Lambourgini, and
gamecreatorjj - 11/5/2012, 1:34 PM
people think that because disney bought marvel, it got better, it didn't, the best marvel films, IronMan, Incredible Hulk, Spiderman 2, X men 2, X men First Class.
Disney has made on great Marvel film, and 3 mediocre films, and the only reason the marvel films are consistent, is because its Marvel Studios, Star Wars will get worse, and So will G I Joe, and Transformers
Tony93 - 11/5/2012, 1:39 PM
@splenda where did u get that pic
Ranger14 - 11/5/2012, 1:40 PM
"Disney has made on great Marvel film, and 3 mediocre films"

Your opinion and one I don't agree with.
LAWLZY96 - 11/5/2012, 1:45 PM
Let's play monopoly!!
SanFranLand - 11/5/2012, 1:49 PM
Wonder what that would mean for the newly opened 3D ride at Universal Studios? Let's get an even bigger & better one at Disneyland. California Adventures has a ton of wasted real estate. (If I wanted to lean how to make a tortilla I would look on YouTube.)
BlueDemon - 11/5/2012, 1:49 PM
[frick] it! Disney can buy every company for all I care. They do a good job with their licenses. I'm a Disney-ite lol
