G.I. JOE: RETALIATION: Voice Actor Playing Cobra Commander Finally Revealed!

G.I. JOE: RETALIATION: Voice Actor Playing Cobra Commander Finally Revealed!

The other day I asked Jon Chu on Twitter who was voicing Cobra Commander? All he would say at that time was that one actor is voicing him and another actor is in the suit. So guess which actor that had guest roles in Justified, and Grey's Anatomy got the part?

If you said, Robert Baker, then you guessed correctly. He revealed the info in a recent interview with PopSugar.com (via generalsjoes) at the 6:25 mark in the video. Rick was a friend of Jon Chu in college and was asked to lend his voice for Cobra Commander for a temp track. The studio liked his effort so much that they asked him to be the official voice of Cobra Commander, and the rest is history as they say.

Jon Chu has just tweeted me that Luke Bracey is the actor that will be playing Cobra Commander behind the mask. So chew on that.

In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy, Cobra, they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, RZA, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. Directed by Jon M. Chu, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick based on Hasbro’s G.I. Joe® characters. March 29th, 2013!

VicSage - 3/7/2013, 6:55 PM
I thought FARAN TAHIR (Raza from Iron Man) was playing Cobra Commander in live-action, NOT this Luke Bracey fellow.
MisterNiceGuy - 3/7/2013, 6:56 PM
JGL started doing good movies, thats what happened.
TheGambitFreak - 3/7/2013, 6:57 PM
Hope he can do the high-pitched hissing voice like the cartoon. That voice was and will always be the definitive Cobra Commander.
croniccris - 3/7/2013, 7:02 PM

LFANCH - 3/7/2013, 7:11 PM
So the guy behind the mask is not going to be the guy voicing the character?

RPD - 3/7/2013, 7:47 PM
Good for him, but they shoulda got Charles Adler...
tazmaniak - 3/7/2013, 8:53 PM
Anyone have any idea how Luke Bracey was cast to play the role? His credits prior to nabbing the role only include 1 year on an Australian soap opera, 3 episodes of an Australian teen drama and a supporting role in a romantic comedy.

I wonder how he went from that to being the actor behind the mask of Cobra Commander? He was like 22-years old when they started filming. I mean, their weren't any older actors or stuntmen who were taller than 5'9 who could be cast in that role?

Well, this looks infinitely better than the 1st one. But I'm still concerned that they all look the same - regular boring Army guys with greens and blacks and standard issue weapons. The fun of G.I. Joe was how every character was unique and colourful and had cool gear and weapons specific to that character. They nailed it with Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, but they could have done a way better job with character and costume design. And don't even get me started on the horrible script and directing for the first one. Learning is half the battle. Which makes me a little gunshy for this one. If it wasn't for Bruce Willis and the Rock, I'm pretty sure I'd take a pass just based on the fact Stephen Sommers left a terrible taste in my mouth that still hasn't gone away. All you needed to do was have Larry Hama write the story and the cartoon guys design the characters. It doesn't have to look 'real world', it's a freaking alternate Universe where that stuff is happening for real! Make it look cool!

He is a pretty built dude, I wonder why he just isn't completely playing Cobra Commander. And his entanglement with Raylan on this season was awesome. Justified is one of the best shows on television.
mrtrampoline - 3/7/2013, 10:43 PM
"Robert Baker"......"Rick was a friend".... Which one is it eh?
TheDetectiveComicRises - 3/7/2013, 11:33 PM
I remember when Chris Laiter use to voice Cobra Commander's voice in the 80's cartoon he also did Starsceam's voice in Transformer's 80's cartoon.
kemuael - 3/8/2013, 12:47 AM
doesnt matter as long as he sounds intimidating am good
mrtrampoline - 3/8/2013, 1:10 AM
@Tazmaniak . Look up Chris Hemsworths acting credits, before he was in Thor or Star Trek.....
mrtrampoline - 3/8/2013, 1:15 AM
And the same Aussie soap opera gave us Chris Hemsworth, Isabella Lucas, Julian McMahon and Heath Ledger. Of course the acting in the show is terrible, but they all proved themselves later on.
LFANCH - 3/8/2013, 12:22 PM
@nail yeah... I kinda skipped the summary next to the thumbnail. That's my bad.
Carloshll726 - 3/8/2013, 4:13 PM
Very impressive movie! Better than Rise Of Cobra! I'm a fan! Congratulations!
Pathogen - 3/8/2013, 9:15 PM
If channing tatum doesn't die in it, then its a shit movie. They should have kept his lame acting ass out of it.
