So the issue I find myself having with the new GI Joe movie is quite frankly the fact that they may in fact kill off Duke. Now there is no concrete proof of this its just pure speculation it still kinda freaks me out. Why? Well Duke is essentially the main character of GI JOe throughout the cartoons and comics. He is the hero. So why would they do this to him? Due to the negative reaction to Channing Tatum's portrayal of Duke the producers or writers or director or whoever must have thought well nobody likes him so lets kill him and start over. Yes the first movie was bad and yes Tatum's acting wasn't up to par. But hey it was a fun movie and Channing can be a good actor when he wants to ala 21 Jumpstreet. But let me remind you this should not be a Rock movie just like the Avengers shouldn't be Iron Man and friends. Duke is the main guy and like Puke Tatum or not he is already Duke so we should give him another chance. And besides honestly who cares about Roadblock I mean yeah he is cool and funny but he aint Duke. All one would have to due is show Duke in a new light make him more cool or whatever in this sequel and people probably will like him. So whichever ending the choose from the screenings, both should have Duke alive because Joe aint Joe without the main Joe. GO JOE!!!

It doesn't matter because GI JOE isn't a good franchise. They have one good character and thats Snake eyes. And even he has no real character about him. They are just cool looking action figures. Which is why I had no problem with the first movie changing so much. There isn't a mythology that pre exists to [frick] up here. They are starting from scratch.

Avengers has been confirmed to be much more then just Iron Man and Friends...just sayin
hunt2c - 4/16/2012, 6:51 PM
I know that was confirmed I read that on here I was just saying as an example. This is my first article lol.
hunt2c - 4/16/2012, 6:59 PM
Yes I did I understood why it was bad but it was still a fun movie. I looked passed the cartoonynish, and the marlon waynes and the unrealstic feel. I took it for what it was a GI JOe movie. I definately want the next one to be critically good not a 33% according to rotten tomatoes.
clogan - 4/16/2012, 7:02 PM
They should kill him off, you know why? Because I can't stand Channing Tatum's shit acting.
KoonEl - 4/16/2012, 7:20 PM
GI Joe comic books were great back in the day. They should have went that route instead of trying to create a sci fy movie like they did. The second one looks to be doing that. They could've just recast Duke. Or better yet, Duke is a code-name, so that leaves it open for the real Duke to show up in the next one.
MrSundayMovies - 4/16/2012, 7:21 PM
I didn't hate the first movie, but even if they do kill him off nobody stays dead in these kind of movies. If there's the need for it they'll bring him back.
hunt2c - 4/16/2012, 7:25 PM
From my point of view i don't know how you could bring some one back like that if they are trying to be more realistic? And if it is a code name the better have made in a way to make sense so its still critically good. I think we all deserve a good Joe movie. After the first making a buttload.
TheGambitFreak - 4/16/2012, 7:44 PM
Channing Tatum sucks mad dick, I wanted his Duke to die, but if this movie stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, instead of A Real American Hero, I will not be watching it.
123hello - 4/16/2012, 7:49 PM
I think he is right Duke shouldnt be killed off like that.
Ha1frican - 4/16/2012, 7:54 PM
How bout this GI Joe: Kill off everyone involved with this Godawful Franchise.... I think it has a nice ring to it don't you?
captainrogers - 4/16/2012, 7:56 PM
I dislike Tatum.
If he goes...I'm all right with it.
The films have already veered off the "mythology" I was aware of already so I'm willing to give this a shot.
Besides....Bruce Willis.
ThreeBigTacos - 4/16/2012, 8:05 PM
Lol. No.
thalidomide - 4/16/2012, 8:17 PM
He gets killed because he sucks. End of story.
hunt2c - 4/16/2012, 8:20 PM
LOTTA Duke haters lol
centurionducky - 4/16/2012, 8:32 PM
They reduced the Duke character mainly because of scheduling conflict. Channing had to film Magic Mike at the same time they filmed G. I. Joe 2. And we don't know for sure if they will kill off Duke. With Tatum's rising starpower in Hollywood, I doubt it.

GI Joe has always been a series that has a different main character each story arc. The first movie was terrible in every way. This second movie looks like it was actually made by a Joe fan as evidenced by blowing up everything the first movie had. Unfortunately they're probably never going to have Maverick, Shockwave, B.A.T.S., Quick Kick, Ship Wreck, Gung Ho, Nemesis, Sergant Slaughter, Alley Viper, or even a real Dr Mindbender to name a few. I'm just happy someone who likes the franchise gets to do something with it. Dwayne Johnson actually knew about Roadblock's cooking skills. The director added the real Cobra Commander. In the grand scheme of things Duke doesn't matter. He's not a bad character, but at least he won't be butchered anymore.
hunt2c - 4/16/2012, 8:56 PM
True i don't know maybe I just really like Duke but I mean i hate when they change main characters in movies its dumb. I got invested in duke and now i have to get use to another new character.
MercMatt - 4/16/2012, 11:25 PM
The question to whether or not he dies has already been answered in a spoiler-filled review. Unless the guy that gave the review lied about seeing an early screening and lied about what happens in the movie. Also... (SPOILER ALERT) Dwayne Johnson already hinte at a certain tragedy happening to a major character that causes another character to have to rise up and take over as leader.

The article with spoilers for this movie is in the Scoops section.

Tatum's acting career deserves to die, but not Duke. However, we don't need Duke in this film, we've got Bruce Willis as GI:JOE, the title character.
jessepostal - 4/17/2012, 5:54 AM
Am I missing something with this "go joe"? I remember it as Yo Joe
OrganizedChaos - 4/22/2012, 4:57 PM
I know that Duke is a main character from GI Joe and I agree with you that they should not kill of Duke. But from another perspective people hate Channing Tatum as an actor and so do I. He didn't do the Duke's character any justice whatsoever. My opinion though.
