David S. Goyer Says He'd Love To Tackle GREEN LANTERN

Green Lantern seems to be on the tip of a lot of people's tongues. Dwayne Johnson may or may not have hinted at the role, Chadwick Boseman is offhandedly bringing up the character in interviews and now, so is DC Cinematic Universe godfather David S. Goyer.

Green Lantern Warner Bros live-action movie casting
In case you don't keep up with the news quite like the truly obsessive fans around these parts, Warner Bros. is undergoing a seismic change.  The film studio's new CEO, Kevin Tsujihara is determined to tap the DC Comics potential for film franchises.  While he recently made news about a new superhero film series that's going to be announced, keep in mind that last September, he stated that he's planning on releasing 12 to 14 DC Comics adaptations in the coming years. In mapping out WB's film slate over the next few years, Tsujihara stated:

"Female centric kind of pictures, that they have been really successful and obviously the Tolkien kind of franchise with the hobbit is kind of a signature piece of new one. Then you have 12 to 14 pictures coming from Warner Bros. And I think the basis, foundation of those 12 to 14 pictures are going to be coming from DC Entertainment. We have Batman versus Superman coming out in ’15, but those are going to be in the coming months a lot of announcements regarding kind of the future movie, television, games and consumer product pieces that are going to be coming from DC."

That quote comes from a September 2013 interview Tsujihara had with Yahoo, so we've known Warner Bros. was planning something regarding their premiere superheroes for quite some time.  Also occcurring fairly recently, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson had a cryptic Instagram hashtag which read, "John Stewart Can Still Whup Supermans Ass."  A few days ago, Johnson was asked about this statement and would neither confirm or deny that he'll play John Stewart, only that he's been having ongoing discussions with Warner Bros. about playing a superhero character that's never been brought to life before and has a Superman power level.    Just yesterday, hot, young actor Chadwick Boseman (42) was asked by blackfilm.com if their's any truth to rumors he'll play Black Panther for Marvel Studios.  Unbidded, Boseman brought up the subject of Green Lantern as if wanting to test public perception of the character.

Now we have David S. Goyer speaking to Collider to promote Davinici's Code season 2. And in this interview, Goyer admits that "he'd love to do Green Lantern."  Keep in mind that Goyer is reportedly Warner Bros.' version of Kevin Feige so if Green Lantern is something of a passion project for him, chances are it's going to happen.

What do you think?  Is all the recent Green Lanter|John Stewart chatter just a coincidence or is this one of the 12 to 14 films WB CEO Kevin Tsujihara  stated is coming down the pipeline over the next few years?

Someone keep Goyer the [frick] away from GL. Just remove the man from the equation. Please!
Lozzy - 3/30/2014, 5:13 AM
Whenever I see a David Goyer article.

marvel72 - 3/30/2014, 5:14 AM
he can't do any worse than the first green lantern movie, can he?
Kurne - 3/30/2014, 5:15 AM
SuperCat - 3/30/2014, 5:17 AM
LOL. Love Goyer related threads. This is gonna be good.

MexicanSexyman - 3/30/2014, 5:22 AM
Just get the Wachowski's to do it.
Brainiac13 - 3/30/2014, 5:26 AM
If he give the story to Aflecks writer............Hell Yeah!!!!!

GL is a BIG character DC..................Just needs to understand the space saga between the pages..........potentially can be big as Star Wars if done right...........ok Star Wars is huge..............but GL has a longer history that no one has explored.

A GL tv series would do justice and they can build on that later like they did to STAR TREK.

Also I think they will wait to see GOTG which looks good.............
Vegeta - 3/30/2014, 5:28 AM
I'd like to see Goyer tackle Green Lantern.
Doopie - 3/30/2014, 5:28 AM
goyer's GL couldn't be worse than the first one. that being said he still shouldn't do it
GeekyCheekyChic - 3/30/2014, 5:29 AM

JMESS - 3/30/2014, 5:31 AM
lmao @baroness ... thats good stuff
Vegeta - 3/30/2014, 5:33 AM
Goyer gets unnecessary hate. Goyer wrote Blade, Dark City, Man of Steel, the story and screenplay for Batman Begins, and the story for The Dark Knight & The Dark Knight Rises. He has a good resume.

It's almost like people hate on Goyer for the sake of hating Goyer, like it's 'cool' or something.
supermarioworldE - 3/30/2014, 5:35 AM
Well that's a firm "HELL NO" from me.
ManThing - 3/30/2014, 5:36 AM
Nothing like a do-over...
I bet the director of the first one like cries under his pillow every night if they do another one this soon. He'll go on sabbatical someplace where no one has ever heard of him so that the shame and humiliation has time to go away.
Emblemmaniac - 3/30/2014, 5:36 AM
He is a great ideas man, that can do pretty good stories, but he is then needed by a good co-writter. So if you get him + insert suitable co-writters (like prehaps, The Wachowskis, i would be all for it
Unas - 3/30/2014, 5:36 AM
Oh no. Keep Goyer away from ALL CBM's. I love Nolan's work, but it wasn't wise of him to bring Goyer on board. Terrible writer. Stick to video games Goyer.
amebaboy - 3/30/2014, 5:39 AM
I have only one name to say: HAL JORDAN.
Sumitsjc - 3/30/2014, 5:43 AM
WHY not ? lets give him a chance on story though,And find better director this time.

But I still want HAL JORDAN man...
batz11 - 3/30/2014, 5:46 AM

Lozzy - 3/30/2014, 5:48 AM

I'm pretty sure most people don't praise Singer.
megabatfan - 3/30/2014, 5:49 AM
After the flop that Green Lantern was, i think their safest move would be to re-introduce Hal Jordan in JL movie. Make him really interesting & badass, redeeming him in the eyes of the general audience. From there, they can go off into a Green Lantern Corps film series. Introducing John Stewart. (A quick cameo & intro of Guy Gardner could be put in as well, but the main Lanterns could be HJ & JS)
QuestionDAnswer - 3/30/2014, 5:53 AM

They are not people, they are Marvel trolls that love to hate on anything DC related.
MediaMan - 3/30/2014, 5:55 AM
The idea that 'Goyer is WB's version of Feige' does not bode well for WB's DC films. That should be obvious.

Abary - 3/30/2014, 5:57 AM
Oh god no.
l0rdleg0las - 3/30/2014, 6:02 AM
I'm not anti-Goyer like a lot of fans are. I generally like the stories he comes up with just not a fan of his dialogue. And I have to wonder, why is he the only constant when it comes to WB and their CBM?
JorEllinator - 3/30/2014, 6:03 AM
Kyle Rayner, anybody? Maybe have Hal Jordan as a Darth Vader-like figure. He's possessed by Parallax and hunting Green Lanterns. Ganthet could train Kyle and Guy Gardener and John Stewart could be along for the ride, maybe even Sinestro seeking redemption. The next movie could be Hal seeking redemption, maybe becoming a Green Lantern-esque Spectre, the entity of redemption. The third, Blackest Night or Green Lantern Rebirth. Just an idea.
monsterswin - 3/30/2014, 6:05 AM

God help us all to be strong during this time of Goyincompetence.

InfiniteMonkey - 3/30/2014, 6:10 AM
Bloody talk is all it is.

If he wants then he should do it. I just want to see a proper GL brought to life on screen and sharpish.
GoldSlayer1 - 3/30/2014, 6:14 AM
I dont understand the Goyer hate either.

Some people can be good writers, others can be good idea makers.

Goyer maybe does have interesting ideas, but isn't the best at writing them, so has someone else do it instead. and the one writing probably didn't have interesting ideas, but is a good writer.

As long as he understands his capabilities, I dont have a problem with him being involved.
sintzu - 3/30/2014, 6:17 AM
I don't know why they still keep him around they should get some writers who can actually write amazing comic book movies like one of the writers from the dark knight trilogy and man of steel...oh yeah goyer is one of them so stop hating on him

if you think he's bad for whatever reason then you must not have seen catwoman-batman&robin-green lantern-superman returns
feedonatreefrog - 3/30/2014, 6:18 AM
Hal Jordan had his chance

sintzu - 3/30/2014, 6:23 AM

i couldn't have said it better
marccampos - 3/30/2014, 6:24 AM
Somebody stop Goyer!!!
GoldSlayer1 - 3/30/2014, 6:24 AM
As for which GL should be in the movie.

Ill keep saying it, Green Lantern John Stewart. (The one from the justice league show)

I dont follow any GL comics, but when it comes to cartoon series or tv shows, IMO John Stewart has been the better one.

Also the fact that John Stewart is more popular than any of the other GLs should be a pretty good reason to go with him, since audiences are more likely to be familiar with this version.

and next time (if there is one), please no CGI costume.
go with a practical costume and maybe add in the minor outline glow when the ring is being used, but not that terrible outfit they used in previous movie.
marvel72 - 3/30/2014, 6:26 AM
@ DommCobb

you say its getting old omega shitting on goyer & man of steel but you do exactly the same to marvel studios.

SkipKahless - 3/30/2014, 6:26 AM
Comparing the respective roles of goyer and feige is kinda ridiculous, for many reasons. One writes movies, the other runs an entire studio.
gambgel - 3/30/2014, 6:29 AM
Wonder Woman and Flash deserve a solo movie before another GL one.
I hope Warner make them justice
Prime - 3/30/2014, 6:30 AM
I think Goyer should stay away from any superpowered individual.
GeekyCheekyChic - 3/30/2014, 6:30 AM
I just have to believe there is another "Blade" in this guy...he does have talent but he needs writing partners so that they can reel him in when he has crazy ideas and they can double check his plot holes. But Goyer isn't a scrub- team him up with someone DC....
Why not a Bruce Timm to oversee Goyer's writing lol
