Is this the Green Lantern Movie Costume?

Is this the <i>Green Lantern</i> Movie Costume?

A comic artist reveals that he is working on not just one, but two DC movie productions. He's also posted a piece of costume artwork that may be very similar to what Ryan Reynolds wears in Green Lantern.

Jason Palmer is a comic artist who specializes in artwork from the movie Serenity (and the TV series Firefly it was based off of). Last week, he posted the following message to his Deviant Art journal:

Hello all,

"Been busy with, among other things, two movies each based on DC comic characters (one has a scar, one has a ring) I'll share with you when I can. I've also done prints for recent shows. This weekend I'll be in Seattle at the Emerald City Comicon. Stop by my booth #1110 and if you like pick up a copy of the exclusive print I've done for the show!

I'll also be at Wonder Con in San Francisco April 2-4 where I should finally have the River vs. Reavers print!

If what he says is viable, the only two DC comic based films that fit the description are Jonah Hex, starring Josh Brolin and Megan Fox, and Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds. Johan Rex is scheduled for a summer release this year while Green Lantern is currently filming in New Orleans, LA.

Jason also uploaded this artwork and caption to his site:

"I did some work for the upcoming Green Lantern movie. I can't show the submitted art, but this is some extra art I did as a cover to the submission pdf, but was strangely not included in the submission. Oh well. For this art, I didn't use costume designs or Reynolds ref that was provided by WB, so I can share it with you.

What to you think ComicBookMovie fans? Though Jason says this piece of artwork itself wasn't submitted to the studio, a similar one could very well have. Either way, it's still nice to see another concept piece for the film. Would you be happy with this style of uniform if Ryan Reynolds were to wear it in Martin Campbell's Green Lantern?

Looks pretty close to the real deal, not sure about the validity of his statement, but if it is true then I'd be happpy
sagekilz - 4/9/2010, 3:44 PM
1st, if it is the real deal, nicely done.
WolvieCBM - 4/9/2010, 3:44 PM
Oh yeah...if this is official then it looks great. They are going for the traditional look.

Awesome find @Multi!
kryptoRK - 4/9/2010, 3:44 PM
I doubt it's the real deal, but it looks cool (classic GL). I'd like to see the mask on him.
jusme6 - 4/9/2010, 3:45 PM
"one has a scar"? I feel like such an idiot for not knowing this.
HelaGood - 4/9/2010, 3:45 PM
i hope so! looks like the comic one. and not a stitch of black plastic nipples anywhere! WOOHOO!!!
fightingfoo93 - 4/9/2010, 3:46 PM
Get that mask on and Hellz yeah!
GoGoGadgetsBruh - 4/9/2010, 3:46 PM
if this is real then........AWESOME!!!! :D
Ryden - 4/9/2010, 3:47 PM
Yeah if this is real it'd be cool, it would exscuse the lack of mask. Considering that most CBM's are a lot more realistic and gritty they figured the domino mask that hides practically nothing of the face just doesn't work. So I'm not to bothered about that.
CorndogBurglar - 4/9/2010, 3:52 PM
i like it, but it doesn't mean its the movie suit. i HOPE it is, because it looks awesome. and personally, i think it would look better without the mask.

i've always hated those domino masks, they don't cover your face enough to hide a secret identity, AND what would a green lantern need a mask for anyway?? none of the alien GL's wear masks. why should Hal?

i think it would be tricky to make one of those masks look cool. Watchmen did with The Comedian. but i would have been just as happy if he didn't have it at all.
nuketheunicorns - 4/9/2010, 3:52 PM
I can dig it, that looks great.
McLovin - 4/9/2010, 3:53 PM
Hope not. That outfit is a bit outdated and would prob not work on film. I doubt they will go with the classic look.
LEEE777 - 4/9/2010, 3:54 PM
This wont be the real deal,,,, its HOLLYWOOD!!!

This is just fan art HOLLYWOOD loves messing with the costumes an stuff to make it their own,,, shame on you lot LOL!

It would be sweet, but it'll never happen!

LEEE777 - 4/9/2010, 3:55 PM
He just better have a [frick]ing green mask or WB can [frick] off lol!
thegreek - 4/9/2010, 3:59 PM
GREAT find Multi .... Costume looks really close to the original
Checkmate - 4/9/2010, 4:03 PM
It'll probably get changed, people might complain about the costume looking too simple.
Spectre94 - 4/9/2010, 4:03 PM
he said this is EXTRA art, not the ones he submitted but it is still a cool pic
OdinsBeard - 4/9/2010, 4:07 PM
works for me! pretty much spot on!
Phinehas - 4/9/2010, 4:09 PM
It looks like someone sprayed it on his skin.
Suffertree - 4/9/2010, 4:19 PM
Well if that's close to the version he submitted, then that's awesome. Glad they went classic instead of trying to reinvent it like they did with the logo.
THEMRTERRIFIC - 4/9/2010, 4:23 PM
I don't think this is the movie suit. It would be AWESOME if it is, but I just don't buy it.
InTylerWeTrust - 4/9/2010, 4:25 PM
Well, it's obviously not official, the guy says it himself, just him submitting one of his concepts for the costume, but it looks decent. I think the suit should be modernized/updated a little though. I could live without white gloves (I think I'd prefer them black) for example.

The mask will be difficult to pull off, as it can easily come across as cheesy and stupid-looking, and I agree with others in that it doesn't really cover much of Hal's face anyway. I could live without it, provided a logical explanation is given as to why Hal is able to not be recognized as GL.

Personally, I've always been fond of the Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe GL costume:

RedDevil - 4/9/2010, 4:26 PM
Hopefully this is the real deal!
It looks faithful to the comics and Ryan actually does look like Hal Jordan!
Bzzd - 4/9/2010, 4:31 PM
I like the classic look, but I'm sure they'll make it all shiny for the movie.

Thanks MultiPurposePoni.
JLanphear - 4/9/2010, 4:44 PM
My God, that is [frick]ing beautiful. I want that print.
peterparker420 - 4/9/2010, 4:50 PM
TYLER- YUP thats what I want to see that costume is awesome!

If that PICTURE is real..then I can DIG IT!
bonesmcgee - 4/9/2010, 4:58 PM
@ McLovin

Your commment baffles me. How is the costume remotely outdated? Hal's costume is probably one of the most timeless outfits in comics.

bonesmcgee - 4/9/2010, 4:59 PM
and also, people need to read the article. This is NOT an actual piece of art being used for the movie at all.

I'm sorry Poni, but your title is a little misleading.
marvel72 - 4/9/2010, 5:17 PM
he needs the eye mask, plus all the other shit that makes the costume like the one seen in the green lantern comic.
i bet you its that dickhead reynolds kicking up a stink"oh please don't make hide my face."
i bet you when he makes deadpool he isn't even disfigured under the mask.
BIGBMH - 4/9/2010, 5:33 PM
I don't think it should be overly complicated, but that costume looks a little too simple for the movie version.
superman7 - 4/9/2010, 5:48 PM
I'd wanna see what his mask looked like. But that looks pretty damn accurate. Sick if that's how close they keep it to comic mythology.
thwhtGuardian - 4/9/2010, 6:20 PM
well the guy comes right out and says this isn't the official look so I'm going to guess that it isn't :p

/but if this is indicative of the direction the movie is going that's awesome.
CROVL - 4/9/2010, 6:28 PM
I think the Mortak Kombat vs. DC Universe GL uniform is the way to go. Looks like a solid futuristic galactic peacekeeper's uniform. The only thing I would change would be to give him shades or a hi-tech visor of some sort, and make his gaunlets (not gloves) a gun-metal/silver color.
RorMachine - 4/9/2010, 6:48 PM
Could be ...I mean there must be a load of early design art out there , chances are even if this is a design they are considering that it will change..I don't like the no mask though.
Tobuttica - 4/9/2010, 6:54 PM
The MK vs DC one looks like it would be a good match for Kyle Rayner. I saw this guy at the Emerald City Comic Con and he illustrated this print to take advantage of the GL movie hype, not because it's the actual movie suit.
fanboiii - 4/9/2010, 7:24 PM
crappy "concept" art. might as well look at a page from a comic book. it's just good fan art to me.
DaenerysTargaryen - 4/9/2010, 7:39 PM
well the first draft of the script says that the GL costume does include the mask. I bet they will use the mask.
thwhtGuardian - 4/9/2010, 7:51 PM
John, I think the fake comments stem from the title which asks if this is the GL movie costume...which the artist admits it is not. Obviously it's a real drawing, you can't fake a either exists or it doesn't.

Also, didn't the article originally ask if we thought it was real? I feel like Multi edited the end of the article from when I first commented, but I could be misremembering. At any rate I'm not faulting you if you did edit it multi, it's a good piece and an amazing find as the art is spectacular.

The only comment I have about the art itself is that if they altered the GL logo like we saw earlier than that should be the logo used on the costume.
arjay - 4/9/2010, 8:46 PM
DaenerysTargaryen - 4/9/2010, 8:51 PM
The mask definitly should be in it. It's kinda like saying Superman shouldn't wear his cape or the red underwear. Almost every version of Hal Jordan/GL includes him wearing the mask. Plus as I said before the first draft script includes him wearing a mask, and I doubt they would change that.
