Green Lantern: Reboot or Sequel?

Green Lantern: Reboot or Sequel?

Should there be a reboot or sequel to Green Lantern?

I know that we were all disappointed with Green Lantern. But, it was not as horrible as Batman and Robin or Catwoman. I will examine reasons for a reboot and sequel.

Reasons for a reboot:
1. The movie itself was an utter mess. Two great comic villains turned into stupid movie villains.

2. The acting was below average. Especially Blake Lively and Peter Sarsgaard.

3. The story was horrible. TOO much Earth and not enough SPACE. The screenplay was also horrible. With stupid lines and quotes.

4. The film currently has 27% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film barely passed $200 Million. The amount of box office success is AT LEAST $350 Million.

Reasons for a sequel:
1. People are sick and tired of reboots.

2. Ryan Reynolds was great as Hal Jordan. But, perhaps Warner Brothers should go with John Stewart instead.

3. At the end of Green Lantern, Sinestro was set up as the next villain.

4. Green Lantern 2 could be in a shared universe with Man of Steel. Although I myself think a Justice League film is impossible(as you could read in my previous highly successful, popular article).

I think a sequel to Green Lantern would be better than a reboot. But, have J.J. Abrams direct it. And show more SPACE.

I HATE Ryan Reynolds, So with that comes terrible portrayed villains, Terrible Script.

Blake Lively might have a butt i'd get down on my hands an knee's an propose to but that girl can't out her way out of paper bag...

For a film that was 200$ million the effects seemed WAY TO CARTOONISH.

Reboot, Screw the Sequel to many bad things to be fixed it'd be medicore at best.

Reboot at-least gives it an opportunity to be good.

Reboot. Get the team that did Mass effect to write Green Lantern. The stories for those games were so good and they were definitely space epics.
spider1489 - 10/2/2012, 7:21 PM
sequel, im tired of starting over , let just move forward already
DCjohnny - 10/2/2012, 7:26 PM
i am for sequel....
Knightrider - 10/2/2012, 7:30 PM
@LizardKing71 Agreed, but also make a rule that Earth is only allowed to be in the film a total of 10mins. The rest set in outer space.

Sequel!!!!

say what you want about Reynolds, with the right direction he could make a great Jordon.

And Sinestro was the highlight of the movie!

Anyone suggesting rebooting a two year old film had to have been dropped on their head when they came out of their mama.

Like other people have said, Warner Bros. should just do for Green Lantern what Marvel did for The Incredible Hulk. Reynolds was OK in it, but I agree with your assessment that the supporting actors were not very good, especially Sarsgaard.

i remember people posting here that green lantern movie is the star wars of cbm. but the movie never came close to star wars. better do what marvel did to hulk franchise.

I cannot weigh in on this, since I have not seen the movie, but why not add a poll?
AlexDeLarge87 - 10/2/2012, 11:20 PM
Better sequel all the way.
HeadPool420 - 10/2/2012, 11:35 PM
I'm down to give Ryan a second chance! As long as they get a better writer and director!
Darklypse - 10/3/2012, 12:01 AM
Reboot.
Jaspion - 10/3/2012, 12:54 AM
the only thing I ask is: keep Hal Jordan.
marvel72 - 10/3/2012, 4:28 AM
reboot just keep mark strong for sinestro because he was the only thing worth saving from the movie.
thunderforce - 10/3/2012, 6:32 AM
sequel
JackofallTrades - 10/3/2012, 10:23 AM
@captaincool: i agree with ya... only instead of re-casting Hal Jordan, introduce Kyle or John Stewart and make Sinestro the main and ONLY villain
CeltiC527 - 10/3/2012, 7:31 PM

I'm fairly certain that the Peter Sarsgaard debate is purely a matter of opinion. I thought he was brilliant, one of the best parts of the film. He made Hector Hammond something bigger than his comic counterpart.

Some people didn't.

I studied acting extensively in college and in my community, so my opinion is that he made BIG choices and therefore stood out.

But I TOTALLY understand that most people don't look for big choices, don't appreciate them, or understand them.

jjk2814 - 10/3/2012, 8:16 PM
Ultimately though, I agree that a sequel is the way to go.

I believe a studio should have to balls and self-respect to stand by its mistakes and improve upon them.
calin88 - 10/4/2012, 1:28 AM
I have one word for it: REQUEL! keep the good, remove the bad, I'm fine with the continuity as well
2460178 - 10/4/2012, 8:08 AM

Christopher Nolan did not invent the 'grounded' approach. David Fincher did not direct the first 'noir.' J.J. Abrams is not responsible for outer space. Thank God that studios think outside the box, because few around here can.
herofan4 - 10/4/2012, 8:21 AM
Sinestro getting set up as the villain at the end of the first movie was terrible. His fall from grace was one of the best things from the books, but in the movie version, he kind of just says, "What the hell. Why not?" and turns yellow. The thing that makes Sinestro great is that he thinks he is right in his choice of fear over will. Also, if the gaurdians don't exile him, he has no reason to want to destroy the corps.
DrDoom - 10/4/2012, 11:00 AM
@marvel72

Precisely. Keep Mark Strong, reboot and recast everyone else. Just deny that the first movie even occurred.
Jordacar - 10/4/2012, 2:56 PM
Here's my idea: Make a team-up movie with the Flash (BRAVE AND THE BOLD, or whatever they want to call it). It can effectively launch Flash for the movies (he doesn't need an origin film), reboot GL, get both primed for their own solo adventures AND set the path for Justice League, all with just one film.
dezdigi - 10/5/2012, 8:13 AM
I think I've heard all of these comments before. Not much of an editorial.
ellispart3 - 10/5/2012, 12:59 PM
i guess im still alone when i think reynolds wasn't the best choice for jordan. the dude can't act, he just does a more suave version of jason lee on the big screen.

i honestly wouldn't mind a reboot and keeping green lantern earth bound. a lot easier to start small then go big. play with the aspect of the ring being a complete mystery to the wielder and go with that. build him as a hero in coast city and have him face an already turned sinestro (kind of like that episode of the superman cartoon with kyle ryner, just sans superman). you can slide in an epic battle and then introduce the green lantern corp in all its glory at the end to signify the even larger world jordan (or whatever lantern they use) has joined.
ironpool007 - 10/5/2012, 1:21 PM
Reboot. But keep Mark Strong as Sinestro

@sotojuiceman
Hey, take another look at my comment:
"I'm fairly certain that the Peter Sarsgaard debate is purely a matter of opinion."

That includes your professors opinion.

Your comment is truly invalid.

"highly successful, popular article"That's pretty funny.A Justice League film is not impossible and it will eventually come out you stupid troll.
halvor311 - 11/4/2012, 4:31 PM
I say reboot it after Justice League and have a different Hal Jordan
djinnNjuice - 11/30/2012, 10:24 PM
I'd prefer a reboot, with the Jon Stewart GL, possibly played by Idris Elba. Reboot worked for the other green guy, I think it would be the way to go here.
Tovonne - 1/6/2013, 7:28 AM
I want aGreen Lantern 2 movie and keep Ryan Reynolds to play Green Lantern in the movie. They can have the yellow Green Lantern and other Green Lantern people in the movie. They should have action figure toys too.
