Nick Jones Jr. Comments on John Stewart Cameo Getting Cut in Green Lantern

Nick Jones Jr. filmed scenes as John Stewart, who is a character that in the comics later becomes a Green Lantern as well, but those scenes ended up on the cutting room floor.

Special thanks for CBM's Greengo for the heads up

Nick Jones Jr. is a relatively unknown actor who was bestowed the honor of being John Stewart in Ryan Reynold's superhero flop. The ex-marine has been in only a handful of films, in bit parts. Nick is a big comic book fan, and was excitedly doing interviews for Green Lantern expecting to see his brief appearance as a pre-superhero John Stewart.

Maybe it was good that his scenes were cut, so that the film didn't ruin two versions of Green Lanterns. Would I have liked to have seen a John Stewart cameo? Yes, and it doesn't surprise me that they cut the Easter egg since that movie made bad decision after bad decision. At least the movie was consistently bad.

Maybe they can reboot the franchise and approach it from the perspective of John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, or Guy Gardner. That would be the best way to make the moviegoers of the world forget the stinker that Martin Campbell inflicted upon them.

BRANDON JONES: Nick, it’s a pleasure to talk to you again. Let me begin by clearing the air on a tough topic because it’s got to be frustrating when your screen time in “Battle:LA” and “Green Lantern” seemed to vanish. Tell us how working on these two blockbusters helped you as an actor.

NICK JONES: That’s fine, it was a little disappointing at first but when I took a step back to see the big picture I was reminded how blessed I am to be where I am today. I remember dressing as Tony the Tiger when I first jumped into acting so I understand that this is an uphill grind. I’m prepared for that and I welcome the challenge. One of my favorite quotes is from Barack Obama, “I never expected to be here. I always knew this journey was improbable. I’ve never been on a journey that wasn’t.” What I get most from that quote is to always stay positive and to also know what you’re getting yourself into. I think working on those two particular projects helped me most with my professionalism. I need to be able to hold my own with actors I grew up watching and admiring. Something I thought I couldn’t do at first because I’m a fan at heart. It’s hard not to nerd out at times. Now I have that comfort level and confidence. The more I do in this business the more it will help me to create my own presence and that’s a major key to success.

BBJ: Any word whether we’ll see Nick Jones Jr as John Stewart on the “Green Lantern” DVD, a deleted scene perhaps.

NICK JONES: I’m a huge fan of Easter eggs and I know this film originally planned a bunch of them. Hopefully they all make it into the Director’s cut.

he should be glad that he is not in any shape way or form associated with this disaster of a film.
MarkJulian - 9/19/2011, 1:20 PM
@Gusto ...I see what you did there. LMAO!
95 - 9/19/2011, 1:20 PM
I was disappointed too.
CherryBomb - 9/19/2011, 1:20 PM
Wow! he is very good looking
a nice John Stewart :3
StrangerX - 9/19/2011, 1:21 PM
Maybe he could try out for a Marvel Role.
Mago - 9/19/2011, 1:23 PM
Poor guy.. I went crazy at the end of the movie when I realised that he was cut :(
PaulRom - 9/19/2011, 1:23 PM
He looks like he could be a good Falcon. ;P
I want Chiwetel Ejiofor as John Stewart anyways, maybe save him for a GL reboot or Justice League.

"That’s fine, it was a little disappointing at first but when I took a step back to see the big picture I was reminded how Godawful the [frick]ing movie was and I was glad I had no part of it"

I paraphrased the last bit:)
boyblunder - 9/19/2011, 1:27 PM
Wow hes a perfect john stweart. Its uncanny
95 - 9/19/2011, 1:29 PM
LMFAO @RorMachine.
AC1 - 9/19/2011, 1:30 PM
I could see him as John Stewart, easily. Plus isn't Stewart himself an ex-marine or something? There's a link between the two that could really help him if he ever regains that role in a reboot :)
Checkmate - 9/19/2011, 1:30 PM
They removed all of the good easter eggs.
Alan Scott, Clark Kent, John Stewart.
BooYah - 9/19/2011, 1:31 PM
Have this guy in the sequel to replace Reynolds. Then get a new director, that way you kind of get a reboot with out re telling of origin and you can keep Mark Strong.
AC1 - 9/19/2011, 1:31 PM
@yossarian lmfao! Imagine him trapped in a taxi with some annoying ass driver! Classic.
AC1 - 9/19/2011, 1:32 PM
When they reboot this, they should go with an older actor for Hal and just skim over the origin. Have him as an experienced member of the Corps and maybe allude to his origins in flashbacks.
jazzman - 9/19/2011, 1:33 PM
knew they would cut out Nick Jones Jr cameo cause he is unknown actor.

the whole yellow weakness thing is old they dont use that anymore.
plasticman - 9/19/2011, 1:33 PM
Someday Hollywood will get it right and leave the final decisions on the way these films are made with the ones that illustrate and write the comic books and not the studio suits.

Its not about giving up power at the expense of less merchandising, but about saving this genre of film from becoming irrelevant and a joke.
jazzman - 9/19/2011, 1:34 PM

clark kent was never going to be in the movie. that cameo was in a very old script.
StrangerX - 9/19/2011, 1:35 PM
They only did it so you have to buy the dvd
NOLANITE - 9/19/2011, 1:40 PM
The movie was already so badass I could only imagine how his cameo would've ruined it. Hell make a good batgirl someday.
krooklyndodger - 9/19/2011, 1:42 PM
One of the many things that was wrong with the theatrical release. Maybe they'll include it on the home video release.
CaptainTall - 9/19/2011, 1:42 PM
Buying the extended cut.
NextHero08 - 9/19/2011, 1:45 PM
Movie was decent but nothing to get all crazy about. Could have been ALOT better but I would rather watch it than Captain America again.
Greengo - 9/19/2011, 1:46 PM
I hope he is in the Director's cut or included in outtakes/deleted scenes : )
thecheetoman2004 - 9/19/2011, 1:48 PM
Nick Jones Jr for Luke Cage! :)
thecheetoman2004 - 9/19/2011, 1:49 PM
I say that cause Marvel tends to go with younger actors (besides Ruffalo, Norton, and Downey) for it's superheroes.
druzod2501 - 9/19/2011, 1:52 PM
Wow he looks like he stepped right off the page. Reboot the franchise, or something to give this guy a real shot
JM4Superman - 9/19/2011, 1:56 PM
I was very pissed off about John Stewart's scene being cut
DarthTesla - 9/19/2011, 1:57 PM
Oh man, I didn't even know about this.

That really sucks, it would have been awesome for John to have been in the movie.
longbowhunter - 9/19/2011, 1:58 PM
Tony the Tiger.
Tevii - 9/19/2011, 2:00 PM
Well he wasnt cut out of the movie entirely... I thought he was one of the three guys beating up on Hal when hal uses the ring in the alley
golden123 - 9/19/2011, 2:12 PM
Ummm guys, I remember reading that it was confirmed this guy was lying and that he was just an extra. His breif cameo was never meant to be John Stewart, but this guy hyped it up on Twitter.
golden123 - 9/19/2011, 2:13 PM
@ProjectGotham: Have you only seen him in the Justice League animated series?
jazzman - 9/19/2011, 2:15 PM

actually he was cut out entirely from the movie. the black guy you talking about is not him but someone else.

stop talking sh!t. im not a fan of X-Men first class but no way its a disater compare to Green Lantern.
souhunter - 9/19/2011, 2:18 PM
I liked GL could have been better but I still want a part 2
jazzman - 9/19/2011, 2:18 PM

John Stewart boring thats a load of b.s.
Mechagino - 9/19/2011, 2:19 PM
Cool. Can't wait to see that.
golden123 - 9/19/2011, 2:29 PM
@ProjectGotham: I do read comis, actually. I happen to know that John Stewart is 10x more creative with his ring in the comics than in the tv series. Many other people complain about his ring constructs in the show. I used probable thinking to get to the question I asked you. I'd also prefer Hal over John, but I do not prefer Kyle over John. At least Kyle isn't annoying like Guy. I don't read comics that Guy is in.
braveone - 9/19/2011, 2:45 PM
Give me Idris elba or Chiwetel Ejiofor as john stewart in the sequel and birds will sing again.
