Alternate Korath Concept Art - GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

The website, Film Sketchr, has conducted an interview and received Guardians of the Galaxy artwork from conceptual illustrator Jackson Sze ("Thor: The Dark World"). Check it out!

In Marvel Studios' Guardians ot the Galaxy, Korath the Pursuer is played by Djimon Hounsou ("Gladiator"). You'll remember him mostly from the beginning of the film when the adult version of Peter Quill/Star-Lord (played by Chris Pratt) runs into Korath while trying to steal the Orb. A nice little confrontation. Below, is some alternate designs for the character that conceptual illustrator Jackson Sze ("Thor: The Dark World") designed for James Gunn's film. You can check out more art and an interview with the artist at Film Sketchr by clicking here.

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy's fate in the balance.

Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. James Gunn is the director and the story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn. It releases in U.S. theaters on August 1, 2014.

What could've been, eh?

MarvelWeiner - 8/20/2014, 1:28 PM
The costume in the movie looks uncomfortable as hell!
MarvelWeiner - 8/20/2014, 1:30 PM
Any actor could have played this role and they get this guy for a generic character...
CaptainObvious - 8/20/2014, 1:30 PM
What a useless character.
Carl - 8/20/2014, 1:38 PM
what a waste of a Talented actor.
Everyone who knows Black panther wanted him as T'chakka...
ALegendaryPanda - 8/20/2014, 1:39 PM
Why was Djimon Hounsou even in this movie? Such a waste of a really talented actor.
batz11 - 8/20/2014, 1:40 PM
So Kree are blue, pink and brown?
McGee - 8/20/2014, 1:42 PM
Speaking of wasting actors...Rocket was great in this movie, but I hope that doesn't mean Bradley Cooper can't play any other roles. That would be a waste.
McGee - 8/20/2014, 1:43 PM
They could have gotten anyone to voice Rocket.
SuperCat - 8/20/2014, 1:44 PM
Think the alternate designs are better. Looks more alien.
ckal - 8/20/2014, 1:54 PM

Korath is not Kree in the movie.
ckal - 8/20/2014, 1:55 PM
@mcgee I know you're smarter than that.

I think..
BrowniesExplode - 8/20/2014, 1:56 PM
The second one is better than the movie version.
SymbioteJoker - 8/20/2014, 1:58 PM
Hey look! Designs that actually make Korath resemble the same species as Ronan. I think it just boiled down to him saying no to sitting in a makeup chair for 4 hours. Films still great though
McGee - 8/20/2014, 2:00 PM

Oh really?

....I thought the Transformer movies were deep and thought provoking.

Still think I'm smarter than common sense?
JoJo1982 - 8/20/2014, 2:02 PM
The should of went with those concept art

Guy kind of tired of seeing too many human like characters
McGee - 8/20/2014, 2:05 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if his contract states he could play another Marvel role.

....and I'm sure DC wants nothing to do with him as that wouldn't qualify as bad casting.
BatzFTWfan - 8/20/2014, 2:07 PM
@ckal : Actually Gunn confirmed he's a kree, he's indeed kree! I mean the thing you say is like saying Ronan is Skrull or an inhuman.
MexicanSexyman - 8/20/2014, 2:09 PM
Remember when this guy was complaining about the make-up process? He barely had any make-up and if he looked like this then he would have had a heart attack.
DocDangerous - 8/20/2014, 2:09 PM
He said no to the blue makeup because his kid wouldn't see his dad as a superhero or some crap.
batz11 - 8/20/2014, 2:09 PM
@ckal thanks, didn't realize that...knowing they can be blue or pink, thought they may have added brown for the MCU...
batz11 - 8/20/2014, 2:10 PM
Ok, guess I'll thank you too ;)
Carl - 8/20/2014, 2:27 PM
T'chakka, not T'challa. he would kill as the out going king of wakkanda/black panther
frova - 8/20/2014, 2:30 PM
I think they were trying to set him up for future installments but after he dropped the bomb on Thanos in the SDCC '13 panel they had him killed off/fired
frova - 8/20/2014, 2:30 PM
Which is why they had such a great actor on board
DeusExSponge - 8/20/2014, 2:33 PM
frova - I hope that's not the case and that he's still alive, sure it looks like Drax killed him. But I have a feeling that he was disabled by the removal of one of his 'horns', or maybe that's just wishful thinking.
sKeemAn - 8/20/2014, 2:40 PM
Definitely an underused actor, but I bet he has more roles in the future.
ChowdaHead - 8/20/2014, 2:43 PM
This film was a giant missed opportunity. Good news is that marvel cant do to Inhumans what they did to Gotg because the source material is the furthest thing from a comedy.
Luther - 8/20/2014, 2:45 PM
I remember arguing with someone about how Hounsou would KILL as T'Chakka, and his casting in GOTG wastes his talent. And I was right. Anyone could've played that role. Also remember arguing that Cooper as Rocket was also a waste..smh. Yes he did good, but I too, hope it doesn't take out Cooper out for the run of other characters.
kinghulk - 8/20/2014, 2:50 PM
luther- what kind of characters do u wanna see cooper play? i cant think of a single character i would like to see him play.
kinghulk - 8/20/2014, 2:51 PM
and it doesent really eliminate him as a possibility considering vin diesel is rumoured to be up for another role.
ChowdaHead - 8/20/2014, 2:54 PM
Vin diesel only said 4 words though. I doubt cooper plays anyone else anytime soon.
ChowdaHead - 8/20/2014, 2:55 PM
imo, Diesel will be a hell of a black bolt.
kinghulk - 8/20/2014, 2:56 PM
but can you imagine him as any other marvel character? i didnt really imagine him as rocket but i can't think of any real character he could play.
TankD - 8/20/2014, 3:07 PM
He should have been black panther. but I guess his persona and acting style isnt right for the character hes to intense. always screaming his lines and making it seem like everything is so tragic. he seems like hes always going to break down and cry like he does every five seconds in blood diamond.
TheNerdwork - 8/20/2014, 3:12 PM

Actually I remember Gunn saying he's not Kree but "Sakaaran" as they did not own rights to the Badoon which was the first choice for his race.

ckal - 8/20/2014, 3:13 PM

I haven't heard Gunn say Korath is a Kree. What I have heard all through production and the movie is that Korath is Sakaraan.
batz11 - 8/20/2014, 3:27 PM
Sakaraans looked much different, Gunn played the one without his face covered when Yondu crashed...Ronan was Kree, and concepts above look more Kree, hmmm, don't know...
Gprez2020 - 8/20/2014, 4:06 PM
Ya. His role was too small and looked just like a guy with contacts and a metal plate in his head. Good actor..just not used well. Still loved the movie though.
