CONFIRMED: Dave Bautista Is 'Drax' In Marvel's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

After the former WWE wrestler proved himself to be a formidable onscreen threat in the action-packed The Man With the Iron Fists, Dave Bautista has landed the role of 'Drax' in James Gunn and Marvel Studios' big screen adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Various reports have indicated that Marvel Studios have been closing in on their 'Drax the Destroyer' for Guardians of the Galaxy over the past few weeks now, with Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista said to be the two frontrunners. Well, The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed that the mixed martial artist and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista has closed his deal to play the character in James Gunn's big screen adaptation. The site describes the character as, "a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos (the villain in the final-scene tease of Avengers). His powers include flight, super-strength and energy blasts." Bautista joins Chris Pratt (Star-Lord) in the movie which is currently set to be released on August 1st, 2014.

Eh. Was hoping Momoa would get this one. I'm sure Marvel knows what they're doing though.

typicalfanboy - 3/14/2013, 3:58 PM

DEATHbyEXILE - 3/14/2013, 3:59 PM

NoJobBOB - 3/14/2013, 3:59 PM
Is this for real or will it be taken down in an hour or so?

If it's real, cool.

Dave hasn't been a wrestler in awhile and that Rock guy ended up having a pretty good career. Dave can be very intense and charismatic, which fits really well with Drax. I'd rather it been Jason but Dave isn't a terrible step down.

Latino Review strikes again.... er, wait....

I'm sure he'll do fine.
SageMode - 3/14/2013, 4:05 PM
Im very disappointed with this. What the hell Momoa? *sighs*

I really hope he doesn't give a stale-ass performance. Yeah, YOU Batista.
FightAs0ne - 3/14/2013, 4:05 PM
Not bad, not bad at all. Jason missed out. Good luck on the Conan and Bullet to the Head sequels. :P
Fantine - 3/14/2013, 4:05 PM
I LOVE the casting of Chris Pratt, been a fan of him for ages so glad he'll become mainstream.

I'd love to see his Parks co-star Audrey Plaza as Gamora.
TheSonicScrew - 3/14/2013, 4:06 PM
I'm gonna have a watch of The Man with the Iron Fists to see what he's like....but I mean he has the look and presence, so I'm gonna trust Marvel on this and wait and see how he turns out!
PsyGuy - 3/14/2013, 4:06 PM

Momoa deserved this!
sciencefriction - 3/14/2013, 4:06 PM
Noooooooooo. This has left me in a very Vader mood, I am not pleased. Bad move Marvel, bad move. Why bother making a movie if one of your main characters can't even act!!
TheBeard - 3/14/2013, 4:07 PM
Drax is not very chatty so i dont have problem with this casting. He wasen't bad at all in the man with iron fists movie either. obviously has the size as well. Now since that is settled how about freakin Gamora news.
Fantine - 3/14/2013, 4:07 PM
If not Plaza, then Kate Mara
kooldeath - 3/14/2013, 4:07 PM

Remember what happened the last time a wrestler was cast as a comic book character?
sephiroth211 - 3/14/2013, 4:07 PM

Come on Bautista!! You got a lot of haters on ya's time to bring your A game!
AlibiBreakfast - 3/14/2013, 4:07 PM
Does anyone else have the feeling that the GOTG are just being set up to be killed by Thanos in order to highlight the nature of the threat he poses and to up the ante for Avengers 2?

There goes good acting...
third3ye - 3/14/2013, 4:09 PM
I never liked Momoa... and WWE wrestling is all acting anyway. Just make sure Bautista doesn't get more than a page of dialogue ;)

can the guy actually ACT..?? as for Momoa..i guess it's good that he didn't get cast for this role. he's better suited as The Executioner.
ManOfKrypton - 3/14/2013, 4:10 PM
I guess Jason Momoa asked for too much... He should have just accepted the initial offer, instead of countering... Looks like it bit him in the ass!
sephiroth211 - 3/14/2013, 4:10 PM
People act like he's been cast as Adam Warlock or something. He's playing DRAX THE DESTROYER!!! He is going to do fine.

thewonderer - 3/14/2013, 4:10 PM
[frick] you Marvel
RonSwanson - 3/14/2013, 4:10 PM
This is regrettable...
Fantine - 3/14/2013, 4:10 PM
give the guy a chance, look at the Rock. not saying hes ocar worthy, but he's passable
spidey1994 - 3/14/2013, 4:11 PM
God I [frick]ing hate Batista!
Bandrews1 - 3/14/2013, 4:12 PM
I'm actually ok with this. I personally would have preferred Momoa but I think he'll do fine.
JoshWilding - 3/14/2013, 4:12 PM
This is definitely shaping up to be one of Marvel's most unexpected and unorthodox casts yet. I'm intrigued...

M3T4LL0 - 3/14/2013, 4:13 PM
In the words of another great wrestler...
MarkV - 3/14/2013, 4:13 PM
Convince me that thyis movie can work. Trying so hard not to hate it. Losing the fight with the forces of darkness.
sephiroth211 - 3/14/2013, 4:14 PM
I swear some of the users on this site...

Supernature - 3/14/2013, 4:16 PM
Jason Momao, you dumbass !!!!!!

Ugh ! Horrible decision.
TheMadman - 3/14/2013, 4:16 PM
I am neither pro nor anti Bautista. I think that if Mamoa was smart, though, he would've taken the role at Marvel's price. I mean, do the math - RDJ was paid $500k for Iron Man 1 - three appearances later [counting TIH] he's making $50 mil for the Avengers. That's a 10,000% increase. That could've been you, Mamoa if you were patient.
