Early GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Concept Art Feature The Badoon Weapons And Planet Spartoi

Hit the jump and check out the another batch of conceptual artwork by artist Goran Bukvic, now with weapons in Guardians of the Galaxy as well as the Badoon and a planet that didn't appear in the movie.

With Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy currently the "#1 movie in the universe," concept artists who worked on the film in its early days have showcased their contributions. One is Goran Bukvic, whose work features weapons that belong to the Badoon, the secondary villain alien race that was replaced by the Sakaaran in the film due to 20th Century Fox holding their rights. Also, previously-seen concept art by artist Stephan Martiniere has revealed an environment that also didn't appear in Guardians. As Slash Film has pointed out and explained, Martiniere's art piece features the planet Spartoi, which is home to Star-Lord's father J'son in the Marvel Comics. Check it out below!

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film opens August 1, 2014

It looks like Gunn originally planned to explore Quill's parentage a bit more and introduce the Spartoi.
SmellofDuty - 8/6/2014, 9:12 AM
Awesome! Thumbs up!
ojkush - 8/6/2014, 9:14 AM
is the ball weapon concept art showing Quasar (Phylla-Vel)??? :o
UltimateCookie - 8/6/2014, 9:15 AM
We should've seen all these in the movie. Would've made it more of a "spece epic". Not bashing but certain elements took me out of the film.
UltimateCookie - 8/6/2014, 9:15 AM
monkeyballs - 8/6/2014, 9:15 AM
Still need to see this movie. I'll wait until people stop showing up to movie theaters dressed up in costume like jerks.
KurtWagner1225 - 8/6/2014, 9:16 AM
i guess the Badoon concept art was before Marvel told Gunn that they didnt own the hence why The Sakaarans in the movie
KurtWagner1225 - 8/6/2014, 9:17 AM
Cookie-its more of a space adventure then a space epic imo anyway
BatzFTWfan - 8/6/2014, 9:19 AM
Man, Fox just sucks. We could have badoon but instead with sakaarans, it raised possiblities of Plane Hulk, which i just hate of it getting live-action.
UltimateCookie - 8/6/2014, 9:19 AM
I guess. To me, when your doing a movie in space and it takes place on different planets, galaxies, etc. you shouldn't really have many humanoid characters and GOTG had alot of them. It took me out of the 'space adventure' feel of it all.

Hope they do that in the sequel, good movie though.
kaijunexus - 8/6/2014, 9:20 AM
That was my favorite knife... :(
kinghulk - 8/6/2014, 9:21 AM
those weapons looks cool, shame we didnt see spartoi though.
ckal - 8/6/2014, 9:21 AM
J'Son of Spartak you say?
KurtWagner1225 - 8/6/2014, 9:21 AM
i thought the planet was called Spartax
jCamer0n - 8/6/2014, 9:21 AM

Damn...Marvel Studio trying to expand their reach. From comic movies to Musical.
KurtWagner1225 - 8/6/2014, 9:24 AM
Cookie-yeah i see your point..i know Xandar was suppose to be like a futuristic earth
kinghulk - 8/6/2014, 9:26 AM
i wish the badoon where in this film now instead of the saakarans.
Ezio- me too i get confued with the whole spartoi spartax thing. sometimes they say spartoi sometimes they say spartax.

jcamer0n- hate somewhere else, ive seen you complain about people who trolled on DOFP article but dont go down to their level.
thunderforce - 8/6/2014, 9:28 AM
They need more worlds and each new world should have a new race and a few super heroes to help protect it .
batz11 - 8/6/2014, 9:32 AM
Love this stuff, can't get enough of GotG -- especially the concepts! Thanks Fresh!
ojkush - 8/6/2014, 9:34 AM
so no one thinks that might be Phylla-Vel in the ball weapon concept?? :(
AstonishingArachnid - 8/6/2014, 9:34 AM
I believe Spartoi is the species and Spartax is the planet.
KurtWagner1225 - 8/6/2014, 9:41 AM
JCamerOn-i wish Cameron would expand his reach instead of doing Avatar from now on
MrFantastic - 8/6/2014, 9:44 AM
As much as the opening scene is great, I wish that Marvel owned the film rights to the Badoon.

Seriously, who wouldn't want to see a sequence like what they showed in the Guardians Marvel Now! issue, in which young Star-Lord watches his mother get killed by the Badoon and discovers his alien heritage? That would be cool.
KrazyForKomix - 8/6/2014, 9:44 AM

WB WILL put out a unified universe.
It's coming.

It'll be great.

I mean, Marvel Studios is cementing a new genre that DC will be able to take advantage of, also.
Just you wait . . .

It'll be great. You can trust WB. They only put out good movies after exhaustive research to make sure they've picked the right character.

NovaCorpsFan - 8/6/2014, 9:44 AM
It could very well be her.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 8/6/2014, 9:45 AM
Well this confirms that Marvel has the rights to the Badoon then. Also Spartoi almost made the film. Marvel is ahead of the game now on design for gotg 2. Star Lord's father J'Son will be making a appearance.
SecNotSure - 8/6/2014, 9:45 AM

TheRealRemyLebeau - 8/6/2014, 9:48 AM
@Mr.Fantastic Marvel can't make a film's story exactly like the comics. That's giving away the whole movie. They take what they can from the comicbooks of guardians and other appearances with creative writing to make us keep guessing.
BIGBMH - 8/6/2014, 9:49 AM
Fox should just be like "Hey guys, we honestly have no intention of using the Badoon. Like ever. So here, they're yours. And let's be real. We're not gonna use the Skrulls either so take them too. But we're keeping the Negative Zone."

Marvel Studios "Wow, that's really cool of you! We hate to get greedy, but we don't have the rights to this Guardians of the Galaxy character named Bug..."

Fox "Oh, yeah! That guy! I've got absolutely no idea why, but we have him! Somebody probably thought he was related to Annihilus and paid like $50 more dollars to get him. You got a dollar on you?"

Marvel "Yeah."

Fox "I'll take that. And you now own Bug!"

Marvel "Wow, thanks! I'm glad we've got this great, cooperative relationship!"

Fox "Yeah, it's pretty cool! So about this AvX movie.."
TelaVizion - 8/6/2014, 9:49 AM
Can't wait for this Blu-ray... Hopefully they'll have a collector's set for it.
kinghulk - 8/6/2014, 9:50 AM
bigbmh- marvel can use the skrulls.
TelaVizion - 8/6/2014, 9:51 AM
@BIGBMH if only, smh
GeekyCheekyChic - 8/6/2014, 9:52 AM

love it. if only it were that easy.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 8/6/2014, 9:54 AM
CookieKid247 - 8/6/2014, 9:19 AM

I not going to be mean but cookiekid247 have you done your research on all or most of Marvel's alien races? You do know that most are humanoid aliens. You know that right? *shrugs*
TheRealRemyLebeau - 8/6/2014, 9:57 AM
@BIGBMH Hey ummmmm fox studios doesn't own Bug. That character is apart of the Micronauts IP. Just letting you know that.
Spideysense44 - 8/6/2014, 9:59 AM
I wish they used those nuclear weapons
