First Reactions: Disneyland GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Sneak Peek

With Marvel's first foray into the galaxy mere weeks away, several individuals were given a special sneak peek at the sci fi epic at select Disneyland Parks. Read on for their reactions....

Yesterday, special guest were treated to a sneak preview to Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy at Disneyland (not to be confused with the OTHER sneak preview being shown in IMAX theaters on July 7th).

Among the audience was Sean Gerber who took to Twitter to give his reactions

Gerber went on to give a lengthier reaction at his website

"I’m not here to spoil the movie, so I’ll stick with a very general description of what was shown. You’ve already seen some of it, assuming that you are caught up on GOTG’s trailers. The sneak peek opened by showing us Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) introduction scene as Star-Lord (Who?) in its entirety from his arrival on the planet Morag, to his search for the mysterious orb, to his daring escape from Korath the Pursuer (Djimon Hounsou).

Again, without giving anything away, the scene played very well thanks to cool, cosmic gadgets, more music that continues to be its own character in this picture, and a charming, charismatic performance by Pratt. Long-time fans will see that he is Star-Lord, through and through. The audience went back and forth from oohs and aahs to laughs. The pop cultural references that date Quill as an 80s kid were hilarious high points.

A sizzle reel followed mixing in footage seen in the trailers with new and expanded cuts. The dynamic between the members of the team (Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot, Gamora, and Drax) really clicks, especially Rocket and Groot. The space action looks nothing less than spectacular and is sure to thrill between, and at times, alongside all the witty banter. Ultimately, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY looks to be its own, unique concept and film, but feelings similar to those I experienced during my first viewings of STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES popped up here.

As the sneak peek concluded and the title card returned to the screen, the entire theater erupted in applause. Sure, this was a very pro-Disney crowd, but the response was completely genuine and earned by what was shown. There is still the rest of the movie to see before its quality can be confirmed, but all signs currently point to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY being the best time audiences around the world are going to have at the multiplexes this season. Director James Gunn and his cast certainly have me hooked."

There are several more reactions pooring in from Twitter as more people see today's screening

How do you guys feel about being so close to seeing Guadians Of The Galaxy on August 1st?

Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, and Benicio del Toro, Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy hits theaters August 1st, 2014

I'm sure it will be good. Didn't need random Twitter reactions to tell me that.
AlexanderLykins - 7/4/2014, 9:12 PM
I haven't been this excited for a movie since Marvel's The Avengers. This is kind of a big deal!
AlexanderLykins - 7/4/2014, 9:13 PM
Watching Captain America: The First Avenger right now. Crazy to think that this is all one cohesive universe.
AlexanderLykins - 7/4/2014, 9:16 PM
Can't wait to hear and see Thanos.
SauronsBANE - 7/4/2014, 9:16 PM
I wasn't even close to being on board with this movie when I first heard about it, especially after that God-awful, cheap Men in Black knock-off, low-quality soap opera of an extra credits scene after Thor 2. But man, I've been getting more and more amped about this movie in spite of myself.

Sure it's risky, but I'm certain it's going to be a massive hit. I can see a huge amount of goodwill for this movie, simply because of how well-received The Winter Soldier was, along the same lines as how Iron Man 3 was received by being the first movie after The Avengers. Can't wait!
batz11 - 7/4/2014, 9:16 PM
I hope it's as great as it looks...
AlexanderLykins - 7/4/2014, 9:19 PM
I'm going to make sure and get my phone out for the Thanos scenes. So I can watch them over and over again.
TheRationalNerd - 7/4/2014, 9:20 PM
I'm most positively sure it will be a heartfelt film.
dethpillow - 7/4/2014, 9:21 PM
good find.

what a way to promote the film to people, that's crazy Disney can be hitting tons of people with stuff like this, i bet it'll be open to the public all day couple weeks before or something.
TheRationalNerd - 7/4/2014, 9:24 PM

I'm watching Cap: TFA too on FX with my pops. (Probably a nitpick but) One thing they lacked on explaining was the dynamic of African-American soldiers during that time era. It would've been good if they explained or at least hinted at it. Other than that I found the film to be pretty brutal in some scenes as well (for ex: the shoutout at the labs)
dethpillow - 7/4/2014, 9:24 PM
that's what they should've done is shot like a 12 minute thing just for the theme parks, in some superadvanced 3D of Rocket and Groot on some random adventure. something like that. and then taken that and put it on loop at Disneyland parks for the last month or something.
something like Captain EO but shorter to reach as many people as they can.

Diamond-how about....NO.. and if u werent interested, why the phuck would u comment?

SauronsBANE1- the post credits scene for thor 2 was alright im..i liked the collector in it..he felt like a truly alien character..very unnatural and mesmerizing imo..Gunn said that they hadnt shot it long ago.. they shot it pretty close to thors release date and he said that he gotten the script for that scene that morning and shot it in two hours at the end of a second unit day of shooting..anyway i realllllly hope this film is good
dethpillow - 7/4/2014, 9:26 PM
@TheBlackNerd - yeah, i've always thought that Marvel should've made Ultimate Cap black. it's one of the race changes in comics that would have the biggest and most interesting effects to the dynamic of how the character relates to the world. it would just change so much stuff, if we think about what that would imply for Cap's situation.

that's something i'd still like to see in some alternate reality Marvel.
KurtWagner1225 - 7/4/2014, 9:27 PM
Diamond-oh ...real mature
AlexanderLykins - 7/4/2014, 9:28 PM
I think Marvel's policy on social issues is to distance their stories from them. It may not be the right thing to do, but it's the safe thing to do.
KurtWagner1225 - 7/4/2014, 9:28 PM
i love TFA so has so much heart in it which is the thing i love about it the most.. the performances are reminds of 40s adventure serials ,i love the look of the film,i had wish they fleshed out more of caps and bucky dynamic but that imo was done well in TWS..the main thing is i think Marvel is gonna have a hard time finding a better actor to embody Cap the way Chris Evans good
AlexanderLykins - 7/4/2014, 9:30 PM
It's the sad truth about the PC age we live in.
TheRationalNerd - 7/4/2014, 9:30 PM
I think Guardians will be a fun ride to be honest, it does have a shot at being one of the highest grossing CBMs of 2014 as well. I haven't really been seeing too many TV spots for it now (despite the NBA playoffs) but I think it may need to be promoted more. It'll have some competition though. There's no doubt about that..."TMNT and Expendables 3" will put up a fight. You also have to think about some of the kids who will be going back to school around late August/Early September so parents may want to make sure they get at least one more ride in for their kids before school starts back up.
dethpillow - 7/4/2014, 9:30 PM
@ezio - not so weird actually, i mean i usually drive around town telling girls i don't like how i didn't ask them out on a date, u know?
just in case they were thinking anything was gonna happen.

and whenever i go to the store, it's not that uncommon to find me bring all the stuff i'm not gonna buy up to the counter. they get annoyed, but i'm very clear... this is the stuff i'm gonna buy, and this is the stuff i'm not gonna buy.

it's not rocket science or anything, i don't know why it bugs them so much.
SauronsBANE - 7/4/2014, 9:30 PM
@EzioKenway1225, The actual content of the post credits scene wasn't all that bad...but from a purely technical aspect, it just looked so cheesy (which I guess was the point), low budget, cheap, and rushed. I think my biggest problem was the fact that I'd been watching something cosmic that still managed to feel gritty and grounded...and then all of a sudden we see Sif walk into a place that just feels completely different in tone. It was just so...goofy. It was really jarring, and I don't think I ever got passed that.

Still, even though my first introduction to Guardians of the Galaxy wasn't all that positive, I definitely changed my mind completely by now. It's up there at the top of my most anticipated movies the rest of this year!
NeKroziFeRPrime - 7/4/2014, 9:30 PM
can't wait duuude..
KurtWagner1225 - 7/4/2014, 9:30 PM
AlexanderLykins-i have never been this excited for a movie!!!
KurtWagner1225 - 7/4/2014, 9:32 PM
Sauronsbane1-yeah it was tonally jarring but again,it was for tease for a different movie..i cant wait either..hopefully its good
KurtWagner1225 - 7/4/2014, 9:33 PM
SauronsBANE1-what are u most excited to see?
AlexanderLykins - 7/4/2014, 9:34 PM
They've been targeting youth networks with the spots. Don't ask me how I know that.
JamesMan - 7/4/2014, 9:34 PM

I'm pretty excited to see GOTG but getting teary eyed? Oh give me a [frick]ing break.
TheRationalNerd - 7/4/2014, 9:34 PM

Yeah I feel you, it would've made it more realistic I guess for me. Even some Hitler and Red Skull scenes would've been pretty dope. A guy on a random thread gave me such a cool idea for DoFP if Magneto actually had the chance to meet Malcolm X in the 60's or even Professor X meeting Dr.King before his assassination. But they still played the Kennedy scenario out pretty well.
TheRationalNerd - 7/4/2014, 9:36 PM

Oh man, a Black Captain America would totally add more girth to the story the way I see it. It's a very fascinating thing to think about too. I'm sure they'll consider the idea one day when they run our of other ones. lol
KurtWagner1225 - 7/4/2014, 9:36 PM
Jamesman-hey ,people have different reactions, he did say he got the same feeling he had watching that when he did watching STAR WARS or INDIANA JONES for the first hit him in a place
JamesMan - 7/4/2014, 9:36 PM
I certainly hope Benecio Del Toro's Collector will fit perfectly in the movie, there is no way in hell he will feel out of place in GOTG like he did in Thor:TDW.

SauronsBANE - 7/4/2014, 9:37 PM
@EzioKenway1225, I'm dying to see Interstellar, and even though it's only coming out at the end of the year and we know next to nothing about it, it's a Nolan space exploration movie that's actually optimistic and hopeful. Sign me up!

My 2nd most anticipated movie would definitely be Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I LOVED the first movie, and this looks even better.

Then, of course, Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm sure I'm missing something from my list, but yeah those are the first movies to come to mind haha. What about you?
KurtWagner1225 - 7/4/2014, 9:37 PM
Theblacknerd-i think we are getting a Black Captain America soon because of the teaser that was revealed about there being a new Cap soon
JamesMan - 7/4/2014, 9:38 PM

I get that, but with this type of film and it ONLY being a 9 minute preview it seems a little overdramatic.
AlexanderLykins - 7/4/2014, 9:38 PM
Red Skull/Hitler scene would have been awesome!
dethpillow - 7/4/2014, 9:39 PM
@SauronsBANE - yeah, i think Marvel really needs to work on keeping up on making things not look shot bad.

like DOFP, outside of actual character design sometimes, in my opion, looks great. so did MOS and TASM2. Winter Soldier too. and actually Thor 2 was pretty much not what i'm talking about. neither was Iron Man 3.

so i guess they kind of have now that i think of it like that. but Avengers and Cap and Thor and TIH all looked this kinda way that it's easy for me to get over, but i think it rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

and that post credits thing did look like that too. i'm really dying to see how this movie looks just on that level. i'm excited about this one.
KurtWagner1225 - 7/4/2014, 9:43 PM
Suaronsbane-im very excited for looks...majestic..that is just the word that comes to mind for me and i cant wait for Dawn,i also LOVED the first one,i actually have never seen a planet of the apes film besides that,i do want to someday though. Dawn of The Planet of The Apes and Guardians of The Galaxy are the two films left this summer i want to see in theaters...TMNT looks alright but i thought the transformers films looked fun but then i disliked all of those films so i might check this out on DVD or something...the thing is that i dont watch many movies nowadays in theaters for example i was looking over the list for films before Avengers 2 next year and none those make me interested in watching them in the theather
dethpillow - 7/4/2014, 9:43 PM
@TheBlackNerd - cool thing is too, you could have him be the same Steve Rogers at the core, but it would actually in a lot of ways add to the Cap character, like you said girth. haha. but totally, it's someone that they gotta do.

@ezio - yeah, i mean tho, like from the beginning, that's where it'd have it's most value, i think. cuz it would mean the Super Soldier Project was different if that were to happen and that the government would think of Cap in such a different way, in a way that's built in to the premise. where you're just like whoa, for that to happen all these other things would have to mean this...

i mean it seems like such fun stuff for someone to write.
and yeah, it'll happen one day, it's really a great premise for Cap.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 7/4/2014, 9:43 PM
Not seeing it in theaters.
Rorschache - 7/4/2014, 9:43 PM
Hopefully it's as good as Cap 2.
