James Gunn And Chris Pratt Talk GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY; New Plot Details Revealed

"If The Avengers are The Beatles, these guys are The Rolling Stones," director James Gunn says of the Guardians of the Galaxy, while Chris "Star-Lord" Pratt shares his thoughts on the tone of the movie. We also have some details on how exactly the team comes together...

"Maybe it's a risk, I dunno," Chris Pratt tells Empire in their latest issue when asked for his thoughts on where Guardians of the Galaxy fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "I think every movie Marvel's made has been a risk and they're risks that pay off really big. So I hope for the movie's sake, and my sake, that this one pays off. The story's really good and Marvel really knows what they're doing." As for the tone of the movie - which brings together a very unique set of characters - Pratt added: "It's not as broad as Galaxy Quest but it's not a straightforward space fantasy like Star Wars. I think it's the sort of the best of both of those films put together...and more!" The brief report then goes on to reveal that the team comes together when Peter Quill is thrown in jail and they then band together to escape and 'go after a treasure that they all want for different reasons.' According to director James Gunn, "Our characters are basically all villains to begin with. They don't believe they're individually good and they don't believe each other is good, and through the course of the movie they discover they're heroes. If The Avengers are The Beatles, these guys are The Rolling Stones."

Does anyone think that GotG will crossover with the Avengers in AoU or not until Avengers 3?
ALmazing - 12/31/2013, 7:15 AM
Well, here is the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy I suppose.

MarvelFan15 - 12/31/2013, 7:16 AM
Give the movie a chance. I know it will be a surprise hit. Already 3 or more websites think Giardians of the Galaxy will be the #1 movie of 2014. I sure think it will and I believe if it continues to get high buzz and a Super Bowl sneak peek along with a 4,444 theater opening along with an IMAX 3-D expansion, it could earn $1.4 billion dollars.
MarvelFan15 - 12/31/2013, 7:17 AM
Not until Avengers 3, zippiesdrainage.
InfiniteMonkey - 12/31/2013, 7:17 AM

JoeMomma29 - 12/31/2013, 7:18 AM

Thank you for posting that, I actually like Galaxy Quest. Though I really hope GOTG is not remotely like that.
MrCBM56 - 12/31/2013, 7:20 AM

AstonishingArachnid - 12/31/2013, 7:22 AM
I need a trailer right now!
TheOneAboveAll - 12/31/2013, 7:23 AM
On the subject of tone... I think the Marvel Movies that had the Near perfect(nothing is perfect) mix of comedy and drama were The Avengers and Iron Man. Those two movies had a perfect blend of tone and genre that the other ones have not been able to capture... YET!
DC4everLantern - 12/31/2013, 7:24 AM
GinjaNinja - 12/31/2013, 7:26 AM
Lord of the Rings had massive amounts of comedy... even during big fights. So I think we can move past it in comic adaptions that have comedy.
MarvelFan15 - 12/31/2013, 7:26 AM
Actually, batz11, the movie is actually 7 months away from tomorrow.
JoeMomma29 - 12/31/2013, 7:26 AM
Well 2014 will either go to Cap2 or GOTG..........I am a big time SW junkie and I would like something new in Space Fantasy Genre I hope this will do it.
ezio619 - 12/31/2013, 7:26 AM
the comedy for me personally doesnt hurt the film, sure it didnt work for me sometimes in iron man 3 and the earth comedy track in thor didnt work for me but they are still telling a story so im fine with it
ezio619 - 12/31/2013, 7:27 AM
dougie-thats actually very true
ATrueHero1987 - 12/31/2013, 7:28 AM
Marvel is such a tease with the GOTG trailer, I want it now!lol
ezio619 - 12/31/2013, 7:30 AM
the iron man 3 trailer came out in october of 2012, 6 or 7 months before the film and Thor 2 trailer came out in April, 7 months before the film so im guessing we get a trailer in january and atmost february
VolkanTaskillas - 12/31/2013, 7:34 AM
Dinotron - 12/31/2013, 7:35 AM
I'm REALLY looking forward to this one, if this is successful we will be seeing Marvel taking more risks with even more space characters.

Inhumans movie would be awesome for 2016 along with a Black Panther movie
SageMode - 12/31/2013, 7:36 AM
The anticipation for this movie is killin me.

ezio619 - 12/31/2013, 7:36 AM
either way, im just glad 2014 is here so we just have to wait 4 months until the superhero summer beings with Cap and i think the last superhero film of the year is Guardians, somebody correct me if i am wrong?
QuestiontheAnswer - 12/31/2013, 7:37 AM
Batista Bomb!
AstonishingArachnid - 12/31/2013, 7:39 AM
@ezio619 No your right, Marvel is the opening and closing act to the superhero Summer.
NeoBaggins - 12/31/2013, 7:43 AM
MARVEL's fun-time formula should work best for Guardians and Antman.

Antman has Rudd and shrinking can't be taken too seriously, and Guardians is just bat shit crazy out the gate. I can see Guardians being awesome and fun to where the comedy actually fits.

I was hoping it was more of a cosmic film, but the description has me wondering what the platform is. Saying its not as broad as Quest or a straight space flick like Wars has me curious as to what that means.

At any rate, Rocket and Groot.
marantaz - 12/31/2013, 7:43 AM
Comparing your film to the Rolling Stones is either insane confidence or insanely stupid. Making Guardians is beginning to look like a brilliant, logical step in explaining the powerful force that Thanos seeks, and at the same time opens the door to introducing other non-terrestrial heroes.

I think Marvel will ultimately imply that the Infinity Gems are the driving force behind the existence of superheroes, they create superior good to battle the superior evil of beings like Thanos. This could go on for years, and if they don't take a hiatus like Lucas did with Star Wars, it should be awesome!
Vegeta - 12/31/2013, 7:43 AM
I can't wait to see this!
ezio619 - 12/31/2013, 7:43 AM
i really like chris pratt and EVERYONE is praising his performance specfically in the film,im excited!!
ezio619 - 12/31/2013, 7:44 AM
marantaz-i dont think he was comparing the films but moreso the personalities of the characters on the teams to them
Thevenominside - 12/31/2013, 7:45 AM
i watched SUPER last night, very odd film. but it had its great qualities in the end.
Vegeta - 12/31/2013, 7:46 AM
"Saying its not as broad as Quest or a straight space flick like Wars has me curious as to what that means."

Same here.
Nomis - 12/31/2013, 7:49 AM
If The Avengers are The Beatles...

ezio619 - 12/31/2013, 7:51 AM
the venominside-yeah james gunn is a weird director, his first fil slither is pretty much loved from what i heard, he did these spoofs called PG Porn that i have heard are clever, super is mixed from people, even he has said that he made that film for specific people and guardians is definitely his biggest film yet and he wants to broaden it so it can appeal to people who want to go see a film on a friday night or so and have a good expeience
