James Gunn Confirmed To Write And Direct GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Sequel

Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn has already said that he hopes to return to do the same for a follow-up, but co-writer Nicole Perlman has now revealed that Marvel Studios do want to move ahead on a follow-up and that Gunn WILL return. Check it out!

The Wrap has revealed that James Gunn will return to both write and direct a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy. Their source? Not the usual studio insiders, but co-writer Nicole Perlman! There obviously hasn't been an official announcement as of yet as Marvel are likely waiting on those all important box office results, but reviews have been overwhelmingly positive and it's expected to overperform next weekend. "They started to figure it out pretty quick when they started getting the reactions from the audience; it was a very positive reaction," Perlman revealed exclusively to the site. "Of course they would want to make a sequel as long as it does well and people are excited about it, they'll wanna do a sequel. So, it's going to happen. James will be directing ‘Guardians 2,’ so he would also be writing ‘Guardians 2." Perlman wasn't sure about her own involvement (she initially become involved with Guardians of the Galaxy through Marvel's writers programme, earning her a credit on the movie as Gunn later would put his own spin on things in a later draft). Elsewhere, Hero Complex mentions that, "Feige confirmed that Gunn would direct a sequel should Marvel move forward with one." How do you guys feel about this news?

This is amazing! Kind of expected, but that's only because his work with Guardians is so [frick]ing superb.
Abary - 7/25/2014, 4:00 PM
I'm hoping Marvel's future directors can be as good as Gunn. Here's hoping Scott Derrickson does a great job with Dr Strange.
AsgardianHobo - 7/25/2014, 4:01 PM

DefcoN - 7/25/2014, 4:01 PM
My god, I'm crying already! So happy Marvel is starting to stick with their directors and not rehiring new ones.

Ezio, yeah him too. Just because he took over from Wright doesn't mean people should treat him badly. I'm hoping he does a great job.
FirstAvenger - 7/25/2014, 4:04 PM
Well then the first one better be good.
MrBlackJack - 7/25/2014, 4:04 PM

KingOnslaught - 7/25/2014, 4:04 PM
Does this mean he isn't in the running to helm Avengers 3
WhiteSAMURAI - 7/25/2014, 4:05 PM
Sounds good but Marvel certainly does think that this is going to be a box office hit. I mean I don't think it'll flop but I don't think it'll make as much money as they think it will.
DannyRand1225 - 7/25/2014, 4:07 PM
TheAbaryman-exactly, sure Wilson left but its not due to disagreements..its scheduling conflicts..i for one cant wait for the panel tomorrow
LubedUp - 7/25/2014, 4:07 PM
@Panthasophomore Don't forget Doctor Strange, it isn't confirmed to be Phase 3 but i don't think they would be casting and have a director if it wasn't

I don't think Marvel is waiting to see how it does at the boxoffice. they didn't wait for the Russo brothers, why wait for Guardians.
They know it's gonna be succesful and it's an amazing movie.
NovaCorpsFan - 7/25/2014, 4:11 PM
I think this very much applies here.

TChalla - 7/25/2014, 4:11 PM
@LubedUp Oh yeah! So that makes five movies we know there gonna announce tomorrow at SDCC lol
DannyRand1225 - 7/25/2014, 4:13 PM

Omarvls - 7/25/2014, 4:13 PM

May 5 2017 Guardians of the Galaxy "Infinity Watch

Nova, Adam Warlock

Marvel Cosmic rules

ah should they not wait and see that the first one is not a flop?
Cles - 7/25/2014, 4:13 PM
Give that the Russos were picked up for Cap 3 before the second one's premiere, I'll take this as amazing news.
SpiderFraud - 7/25/2014, 4:14 PM
Marvel is finally putting together the Illuminati of Directors!

DeusExSponge - 7/25/2014, 4:15 PM

I may actually see this movie more than once, I'm liking what I've heard and seen thus far outside of the usual nitpicks (Gamoras look, Rockets voice).
Omarvls - 7/25/2014, 4:19 PM
What is GotG at Rotten tomatoes right now?
