James Gunn Reiterates Vin Diesel Is NOT Playing Thanos In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Despite popular belief that Vin Diesel's Groot casting was simply a ruse, James Gunn reassures that the Fast and the Furious actor will NOT be playing Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Ever since his appearance in the post-credits scene in The Avengers, we've been worndering who would play the Mad Titan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos. We know he'll have a supporting role in Guardians of the Galaxy, and that he's being set up as the big bad of The Avengers 3, but have no idea who is playing him.

Acorrding to Kevin Feige, the role has already been cast, though he's remained tight-lipped about who landed the coveted role. Many of us wondered if Vin Diesel, who's voicing Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, had secretly been cast in the role. According to James Gunn himself, this is not the case, which he revealed during a Q&A with fans on Facebook:

So, could this just be a case of casting misdirection? Or should we take Gunn at his word? Would Vin Diesel really join the MCU just to voice a walking tree man that only says "I Am Groot?" Only time will tell, and I suspect we'll have our answer soon enough, as it will likely leak before Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters on August 1st.

Don't really giva shit who plays Thanos. He's gonna be cgi anyway. Just get a dude with a deep voice.
Hulksta - 5/25/2014, 8:14 PM
Yeah, and Paul Rudd wasn't playing Ant-Man...

ThePowerCosmic - 5/25/2014, 8:15 PM

Want to see and hear Thanos so bad! Hope we get some screen time in GotG!
DaVinci31 - 5/25/2014, 8:15 PM
So Vin Diesel is The Joker?
Bekss - 5/25/2014, 8:15 PM
There's no good reason to think Diesel is Thanos.

Gunn also said that he won't be at comc-con this year.
BigChinese - 5/25/2014, 8:16 PM
I think it's Tom Cruise or Warwick Davis who will be playing Thanos.
MrCBM56 - 5/25/2014, 8:16 PM
Why are they keeping this casting such a secret? Better be a damn good actor.
Bekss - 5/25/2014, 8:17 PM

It was during the live questions before the release of the trailer and he was saying Vin show up to the event

He was saying speaking of Vin becuz the trailer was debuting at that moment. Here's a wacky theory tho. What if The Collector is dead and Thanos is using Loki's illusion to disguise himself and Benicio Del Toro is playing Thanos. I doubt it but hey wacky theories r part of being a fan right? Lol

SuperCat - 5/25/2014, 8:28 PM
Didn't think he would be. Happy with him just voicing Groot.

"Speaking of Vin..."

This was during the Live Q&A and Vin showed up to the Q&A unexpectedly.
batz11 - 5/25/2014, 8:43 PM
@Dude, yeah, Kevin Grevioux is awesome, co-writer of Underworld, always thought he had the perfect voice, he's huge too, just adds to his presence...

DCMarvelFreshman - 5/25/2014, 8:43 PM
Gunn has said this three times now.
batz11 - 5/25/2014, 8:47 PM
^ like saying Beetlejuice three times?
BlackIceJoe - 5/25/2014, 8:48 PM
Keith David or John Hurt could give a nice strong voice to Thanos. As others have said Kevin Grevioux is another one that could give off a cool voice. I don't understand why people wanted Vin to also play Thanos.
MrFridayNights - 5/25/2014, 9:07 PM
Arnold Schwarzenegger for Thanos!!!!!!!
DeusExSponge - 5/25/2014, 9:07 PM
Ron Perlman please! Just for the heck of it, I mean so many people were confused by Thanos' appearance in the credit and thought he was Hellboy! Would be awesome to confuse them even more with Hellboy voicing Thanos.
BlackIceJoe - 5/25/2014, 9:07 PM
I think Malcolm McDowell is another interesting choice. It would be funny if Marvel got the actor of Zod Terence Stamp to play Thanos. That would be pretty cool. That would be a huge fanboy moment. Because in the past he was in DC films and now he would be in a Marvel one.
remembertheking - 5/25/2014, 9:09 PM
Michael Cera as Thanos.
Ellen Page as Apocalypse; turns out she was not Kitty Pryde after all.
typicalfanboy - 5/25/2014, 9:09 PM
wasn't malcovich in this movie?
ruadh - 5/25/2014, 9:10 PM
Even long after this movie hits bluray, some will still be convinced Diesel is voicing Thanos.

I still expect him to have only slightly more screen time than he had in Avengers.
