Ooga-Shocker! GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Soundtrack Tops Billboard 200

Ooga-Shocker! GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Soundtrack Tops Billboard 200

Welp, here's a surprise. The soundtrack for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. It's the first soundtrack to claim the top spot with no original songs.

Last week, Nielsen SoundScan reported that the soundtrack to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 list with 60,000 units sold. In its second week, the Awesome Mix Vol. 1 sold a whopping 109,000 copies. That's an increase of 83 percent from last week's tally. That impressive figure also places the soundtrack at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.  It is the second movie soundtrack to top the charts this year, as Disney's Frozen did the same. This is the first time since 2009 in which multiple movie soundtracks have claimed the top spot. In that year, three films did the deed - Hannah Montana: The Movie, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Michael Jackson's This Is It. Guardians of the Galaxy's soundtrack is bit more unique as it is the first time a soundtrack with NO original songs has accomplished the chart topping feat.

Hooked On A Feeling - Blue Swede

Spirit In The Sky Norman - Greenbaum
Moonage Daydream - David Bowie

Gusto - 8/13/2014, 9:46 AM
According to Billboard
Tom Petty's #1. GOTG...#3.
MrCBM56 - 8/13/2014, 9:48 AM
I was disappointed the soundtrack had no Nickleback and Linkin Park but whatever.
supes123 - 8/13/2014, 9:48 AM
im listening to it right now, im curious what the next soundtracks going to be like, and what other songs the new mix tape his mom gave him
ManDeth - 8/13/2014, 9:49 AM
People might not realize it's admittingly a mix of some very bad music.
Humperdink - 8/13/2014, 9:49 AM
No surprise that.

It stacked the deck with popular nostalgic songs.
It's like an actual mix-tape of good stuff.

While it isn't exactly original music for the movie, it was actually a smart move to do it this way.

It gets the audience in a certain mood when they hear what they know and love.
Really helped me to enjoy the movie a lot more than I might have with a different soundtrack.
TelaVizion - 8/13/2014, 9:50 AM
@DrKinsolving that is the main song that I'm addicted to on the soundtrack. That and "Spirit in the Sky".
ALegendaryPanda - 8/13/2014, 9:51 AM
Best soundtrack of the year!
yossarian - 8/13/2014, 9:51 AM
DOes Tom Petty have a new record out or is it a greatest hit thing?
blackandyellow - 8/13/2014, 9:52 AM
Have you guys seriously never heard Spirit in the Sky before this movie?
V8ER - 8/13/2014, 9:53 AM
Loved this soundtrack and movie. Spirit in the Sky is my favorite, but it wasn't in the movie.
Gusto - 8/13/2014, 9:53 AM
Nomis' new album is #8 with a bullet.

Gusto - 8/13/2014, 9:53 AM
Yoss...it's a new album.
Gusto - 8/13/2014, 9:54 AM
Not that I care, mind you.
Marqy - 8/13/2014, 9:54 AM
Awesome news. They made great choices for the OST.

MrCBM- I know, dude. I am absolutely brokenhearted.

I also feel that any cosmic adventure should feature the soothing sounds of Miley Cyrus. Yes, croon.. croon, CROON the stars to sleep.

Where nobody can hear her.
cipher - 8/13/2014, 9:55 AM
Oh, hi, Gus.
yossarian - 8/13/2014, 9:56 AM
I like Tom Petty. I got no beef with him. I mean, he owes me 13 bucks, but I still dig his music I guess.
Gusto - 8/13/2014, 9:56 AM
Oh, and one more thing! @Pasto.
SageMode - 8/13/2014, 9:57 AM
Critically successful. Financially successful. Now the SDTK is number 1 on the billboard.

Nice Trifecta
cipher - 8/13/2014, 9:57 AM
Is it wrong of me to admit that I never liked Hooked On A Feeling, and that this will probably never change that?
cipher - 8/13/2014, 9:58 AM
That's just me, though.
TheManFromMars - 8/13/2014, 9:59 AM
Hey, cipher's back!
ThedamnBatman - 8/13/2014, 9:59 AM
Already got it, it trully is awesome, that opening scene set the mood so perfectly when the huge ass GOTG title showed up to on the screen with the music
cipher - 8/13/2014, 10:01 AM
MY MATE FROM MARS!! How ya been', bud?

cipher - 8/13/2014, 10:01 AM

I knew I was a weirdo.
Marqy - 8/13/2014, 10:02 AM
"Best CBM soundtrack I've ever heard"

Pretty much

"Marvel smashes records like Eson does planets"

Thats probably the best line Ive heard in a while :D

*in Hancocks voice* "Good job"
Gusto - 8/13/2014, 10:04 AM
You shut your filthy french mouth about Miley!
yossarian - 8/13/2014, 10:04 AM
@Ciph - Nah. Different strokes. I've never watched 1 second of "Shark Week" I don't like The Eagles, I am indifferent to The Beatles, my favorite Springsteen record is Nebraska and I have no interest in ever going to California ever.

Also, can someone explain to me the difference between pickles and pickled cucumbers? How are they not the same?
Sumitsjc - 8/13/2014, 10:09 AM
great news.
case - 8/13/2014, 10:10 AM
I saw a Marvel Music logo at the end of Cap2 the other night. Guess this is another thing they rule at.
cipher - 8/13/2014, 10:10 AM
yoss- Ha, I really should listen to more Springsteen. You just gave me something to look for later.

But, yeah.. it's just a matter of taste, that's all.

I never understood the idea of taking opinions so personally.
