PRESS RELEASE: Marvel Will Release Three Albums From GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

In addition to the previously-announced "Awesome Mix Vol. 1," Marvel Studios and Hollywood Records will release the Guardians of the Galaxy Deluxe soundtrack as well as Tyler Bates' original score.

BURBANK, Calif., July 9, 2014 -- Hollywood Records and Marvel are set to release three albums from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy on July 29, 2014.  The Guardians of the Galaxy Deluxe soundtrack features classic 1970s songs from the film, plus score by composer Tyler Bates ("Watchmen," "Slither," "Dawn of the Dead").   Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is the collection of 12 songs including Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling," "I'm Not in Love" by 10cc, Redbone's "Come and Get Your Love," and The Runaways' "Cherry Bomb," and Guardians of the Galaxy is the digital score soundtrack.  The film opens in U.S. theaters on August 1, 2014.
Music plays a major role in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy as the 1970s songs featured in the film are part of the storyline in a unique way. Explaining how the songs come to play in the story, director James Gunn says, "One of the main story points in the movie is that Quill has this compilation tape [Awesome Mix #1] that he got from his mother before she died that she made for him. It was of songs that she loved, all songs from the 1970s, and that's the only thing he has left of his mother and that's the only thing he has left of his home on Earth. He uses that as a connection to his past and to the sadness that he feels of having left all that and lost all that." Gunn also asked composer Tyler Bates to complete some of the tracks for the movie before the start of principal photography so he could play them on set. "The score is also very important," says Gunn. "I've worked very hard early on with Tyler Bates, our composer, whom I've done three other movies with, to write part of the score ahead of time so that I'm able to use it on set for big emotional sequences and big action sequences. We can actually play the music on set and the actors can really understand where we're going with it tonally. Our actors have a much better idea of what this film is because of the music that we use, both score and soundtrack."
Executive Soundtrack Producers: James Gunn, Kevin Feige and Dave Jordan
Music Supervisor: Dave Jordan

Meanwhile DC is milking Hans Zimmer.

Meanwhile DC is milking Hans Zimmer.

Sony jumped on the Zimmer bandwagon and it failed miserably. TASM2's score was just as horrible as the first TASM's score.

oh man, spirit in the sky is in the soundtrack ,but not the film

I only speak the truth, and there is no finer truth than beauty

HOLY HELL! And I'll be getting 'em all! Moonage Daydream is one of my favorites, and Cherry Bomb is another classic. Hooked on a Feeling and Spirit in the Sky are also amazing, despite only learning of them because of this movie.
rockerdude22 - 7/9/2014, 7:23 PM
Someone recorded and uploaded the audio of the 17 minute preview on YouTube. I listened to it, and I gotta say, I had a blast just listening to the audio! Can't wait to see the actual scene that goes with it!!

Also, I really liked the score that was played during the scene! Sounded very heroic!!
NovaCorpsFan - 7/9/2014, 7:24 PM
I've been singing these all week. My friend's a huge Bowie fan and I whistled a bit of Moonage Daydream and he just looked at me like, "Was that what I think it was?" Come And Get Your Love and Escape have been in my head mostly with Cherrybomb at a close second.
Bekss - 7/9/2014, 7:28 PM
For real?
Link please

It's about damn time a comic movie once again got a good soundtrack to it. I am so sick of just Musical Scores for these movies. Music adds to the the experience. I miss the days of going out and buying the soundtrack to a movie.
DannyRand1225 - 7/9/2014, 7:30 PM
rockerdude-yes ,link pleaseee
Abary - 7/9/2014, 7:31 PM
By the way, if you look at that cover up close, Star Lord's eye is really [frick]ing scary.
Bekss - 7/9/2014, 7:31 PM

17 minutes preview sound
Mrcool210 - 7/9/2014, 7:32 PM

DannyRand1225 - 7/9/2014, 7:33 PM
the two songs that i really like are "i want you back" by Jackson Five and "GO All The WAY" by The Raspberries

Abary - 7/9/2014, 7:34 PM
You guys, that is pretty sad. It's low quality sound. For that, you may as well wait for the movie.
BANE5000 - 7/9/2014, 7:35 PM
How is Spirit in the Sky not in the film, that would be the perfect song to play while they are gearing up for the space ship battle against Ronan...Or even just the shot of them walking down the halway in slow motion :D
rockerdude22 - 7/9/2014, 7:36 PM
Here you go, guys! Enjoy!!

bropous - 7/9/2014, 7:36 PM
Spirit in the Sky NOT in the film???????
rockerdude22 - 7/9/2014, 7:38 PM
Oh, Bekss and batz beat me to it lol
Bekss - 7/9/2014, 7:39 PM
It is pretty good quality
DaVinci31 - 7/9/2014, 7:39 PM
MarvelFan15 - 7/9/2014, 7:40 PM
The music in this movie will help Guardians become Marvel's next billion dollar hit.
batz11 - 7/9/2014, 7:41 PM
Yeah, sounds good to me...don't think I'd ever guess that was Bradley Cooper, so weird, I like the voice for RR...the inclusions of the crowd sounds are like a sit-com laugh-track added, lol
Abary - 7/9/2014, 7:42 PM
It's not terrible, but it's not good. It's tough to even understand when the audience laughs at everything, and when you can't even see the visuals.
batz11 - 7/9/2014, 7:44 PM
Right, without the visuals, doesn't really portray too much, just using what I've seen in the trailers to fill that in, haha...I do love the Cherrybomb song though from the extended trailer and end of that audio clip, so cool...
Doopie - 7/9/2014, 7:48 PM

you're not wrong about that eye!
NovaCorpsFan - 7/9/2014, 7:55 PM
Spirit in the Sky will probably be the main credits song.
DannyRand1225 - 7/9/2014, 7:55 PM
also the score from the audio sounds really cool
AlexanderLykins - 7/9/2014, 7:56 PM
I'll let Barney tell you how it's going to be.....
