Sneak Peek At Some GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Concept Art In New Photo From James Gunn

Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn has sent out another photo from his time working on the movie and we get a sneak peek at a few pieces of concept art which will hopefully all be included in the upcoming "Art of..." book recently announced by Marvel...

#gotgpicoftheday Espousing in the War Room at Shepperton Studios. The heads of department and I (led by our amazing 1st AD @jimmyc2271) would gather here everyday during preproduction and go over (and over and over) what we were doing and where we were going. The visual development work on the walls around us started with the first environment and then wrapped around the room from right to left (I guess someone in the production staff's initial language was Japanese or Hebrew), showing each new environment as it shows up in the movie. Nothing gave me more pleasure than brining a visitor, a cast member, or a new addition to our team into this room and walking them visually through the story and showing them the universe we had created. Oh, and of course, #VonSpears is on my lap. He had full run at our offices in Shepperton, and would always join our meetings - usually under the table, but if something was especially engrossing he'd crawl up to a better perch. #guardiansofthegalaxy #gotg

Nothing too revealing here then, but it's a cool behind the scenes shot and hearing about how James Gunn worked on Guardians of the Galaxy is always a treat. We will of course be treated to more stories about his time working on Marvel Studios' newest movie when the press tour kicks off later this month, so stay tuned to CBM for all the latest news on this release...

this is a quote from David White who is the special make up designer for the film

David White: They [the aliens] have to have a substance to them, as though they come from whatever planet they’re coming from. There’s a backstory to everything. It wasn’t as simple as… James was very insistent that we wouldn’t go too crazy and have tendrils here and bug eyes there. It has to make sense and not look too silly. It has to look functional within the world. We were respectful of that and took our time. So everything looks real and raw and earthy. Or un-earthy in this case. But it looks like it could exist somewhere quite happily.
DannyRand1225 - 7/6/2014, 11:06 AM
Theoverlord-he was married..they are divorced
DannyRand1225 - 7/6/2014, 11:08 AM
as i expected..James gunn didnt want to go for the star wars aliens..he wanted to go for the more 50s-60s pulp scifi aliens in which they were painted humans and people with minimal prosthetics but with some other alien designs aswell.. the colorful but gritty world is a big homage to 50s-60s pulp scifi
Scorpion8125 - 7/6/2014, 11:10 AM
That poor dog is covering up the fact that Gunn has no pants on.

DannyRand1225 - 7/6/2014, 11:12 AM
plus the way Morag( the planet with the geysers and where he goes to steal the orb) ,Xandar and Knowhere are designed, its very much like the designs of 50s -60s pulp scifi
SidDaAstroSloth - 7/6/2014, 11:15 AM
Gunn did say he wanted to go back to the coloful Sci Fi of the 50s. I am excited to see these desigms
AlexanderLykins - 7/6/2014, 11:15 AM
DannyRand1225 - 7/6/2014, 11:17 AM
Sid-exactly Gunn said he wanted to harken back to the era of 50s and 60s pulp sci fi, movies like The Forbidden Planet and Flash Gordon(which one of his and edgar wrights favorite films) but he wanted to mix it with a comtemporary gritty world too
AlexanderLykins - 7/6/2014, 11:18 AM
That is perfect!
DannyRand1225 - 7/6/2014, 11:23 AM
so excited, going to see the sneak preview tomorrow!!
PymParticle - 7/6/2014, 11:26 AM
Pretty sure i see the mandarin in the background there
dethpillow - 7/6/2014, 11:31 AM
@EzioKenway1225 - right on, definitely also tho a big part whatever you'd call a big dash of the 80s. kinda maybe almost like, at it's best, Time Bandits or Brazil or something. all that mash up of stuff is good too, cuz it's all stuff that's in the Guardians in the first place. at least the run they're mostly basing this off of.

i love the way he talks about this, and takes such enthusiasm or pride in the type of processes mentioned in this article. cuz one of the big things about movies like Star Wars is when they are great, it feels like you could open some door in the movie and you'd see a room, or if you checked the pockets of a dead aliens jacket, you'd find an ID card for it's home planet. just meaning that all these details might seem kind of minor, but it ends up making the world feel more mysterious and like there's weird stuff that's not even being mentioned really. all period movies are like that I guess, but it seems especially important for sci fi like this. cuz it can look real college drama department if it just feels like people tromping around in togas and body paint.

Phronesis - 7/6/2014, 11:33 AM
This movie has me on the edge. All the ingredients of something amazingly awesome is mixed, but the execution seems so horrible.
MrFridayNights - 7/6/2014, 11:34 AM
Poor dog he is bored as shit
NightWatcher - 7/6/2014, 11:34 AM
Woah! Is that Iron Man right over his shoulder!

@PymParticle - ah, zee Mandarin eez everyvhere, Meestair Pym.
juuu cannhot escape.
DannyRand1225 - 7/6/2014, 11:35 AM
Phronesis-i think the execution seems well done,of course that we will have to fully judge when the movie comes out but i am not hvaing the problems u are having with it..i think the dialogue is good,it is basically the type of banter u would expect from a guardians comics
dethpillow - 7/6/2014, 11:36 AM
@Nightwatcher - dude! i think it's Metallo!!
dethpillow - 7/6/2014, 11:37 AM
