UPDATE: Jason Momoa In Talks For ‘Drax the Destroyer’ Role In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

The latest Marvel scoop from Latino Review reveals that Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa is near signing on for the Drax the Destroyer role in the 2014 space epic, Guardians of the Galaxy.

As a 150-foot asteroid nearly dropped on us just moments ago (passing earth safely), the ever-reliable guys at Latino Review have just dropped their latest scoop involving Marvel’s 2014 otherworldly venture, Guardians of the Galaxy. After nabbing Zero Dark Thirty star Chris Pratt for the lead role, Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord, the studio and director James Gunn have moved on to another Guardian, Drax the Destroyer. Latino Review reports that Conan the Barbarian actor Jason Momoa not only screen-tested for the role in London just last Wednesday, but that it was so good, “Marvel offered him the part and his reps have now countered.” Therefore, negotiations are underway. As reported exclusively last month, via Comic Book Movie’s Alex Lynch, actors/models Isaiah Mustafa, Brian Patrick Wade and former WWE Superstar Dave Bautista have all tested for the Drax role. Anyhow, Momoa, 33, is best known for his roles in Stargate: Atlantis, Game of Thrones, 2011 sword & sorcery flop Conan the Barbarian and he recently starred in Bullet to the Head. What do you think?

UPDATE: According to sources of The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Momoa has indeed tested for Drax the Destroyer, however, Marvel Studios has NOT offered him the part just yet. Of course, a deal could still be struck soon, as THR also points out. UPDATE #2: Latino Review is sticking to their report, adding that Momoa is asking for double the price Marvel has offered, considering “he was the only one who flew to London to screen test. He returns Saturday.”

Marvel Studios presents “Guardians of the Galaxy”—A big space epic featuring an unlikely cast of Marvel characters, including Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot and Rocket Raccoon, who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. So far starring Chris Pratt and directed by James Gunn from a screenplay by James Gunn, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is based on the Marvel comic book series “Guardians of the Galaxy,” first published in 1969 and revived in 2008. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures will distribute “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014, in 3D. In addition, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; the sequel to “Marvel's The Avengers” on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

Makes sense.
PaulRom - 2/15/2013, 11:32 AM
He's been my choice for Drax for a while. Spot-on casting.
DaenerysTargaryen - 2/15/2013, 11:32 AM
I can live with that
LordoftheThrones26 - 2/15/2013, 11:34 AM
I LOVE this guy he was so badass as Khal Drogo!! He's born for this role! BLOOD OF MY BLOOD!!
DaenerysTargaryen - 2/15/2013, 11:35 AM
I fully expect Drax to do this to Thanos now
80sFace - 2/15/2013, 11:36 AM
He's very good...when he doesn't have to speak English.
80sFace - 2/15/2013, 11:37 AM
But maybe a good actor's director will help him. He was meh as Conan. And he should have rocked that role. Too much posing and poor acting.
StrangerX - 2/15/2013, 11:42 AM
NO thanks
SpoonWielder - 2/15/2013, 11:42 AM
To be fair, I've never seen him in anything because I've actively avoided everything he's been in and I don't watch Game of Thrones. This sounds like terrible news to me though. I don't know, convince me guys, why is he a good choice?
NovaCorpsFan - 2/15/2013, 11:44 AM
Hellsing - 2/15/2013, 11:45 AM
Drax doesn't speak much Khal Drogo spoke in some funny ass language. So I'm down with this choice if this true that. I would have loved to see the Rock get the role but the guys too damn charismatic, he would have stole the show.
mk - 2/15/2013, 11:54 AM
daaang sounds good.. he was amazing in game of thrones.. has an intimidating presence too
Dumegg - 2/15/2013, 11:56 AM
He's a good choice. But i would have like the guy from
Underworld Kevin Grevioux.
ElBicho - 2/15/2013, 11:58 AM
Great casting! Sure he's been in a bad movie or two, but clearly almost every actor has. He will own this!!!
0bstreperous - 2/15/2013, 11:59 AM
Whose **** is he sucking to get all these roles after conan flop and bullet to the head?

PaulRom - 2/15/2013, 12:03 PM
For those complaining, you don't need an Oscar worthy actor to play Drax. You just need a complete badass, which is exactly what Momoa can be.
supercajun - 2/15/2013, 12:06 PM
I think this is good casting, guy is big, he can fight, has a very deep voice( I my head Drax sounds like Michael Clarke Duncan lol), and looks pretty scary. I would of loved the Rock here but this will do.
ChiefWest - 2/15/2013, 12:09 PM
Yes! I definitively approve of this :D Mamoa was great in Stargate Atlantis and Game of Thrones, bring it on!
LordoftheThrones26 - 2/15/2013, 12:09 PM
He's a total badass and a very manly man at that! He's a really awesome actor plus that scar on his face is real too! So show some respect cause he totally deserves the role!
Optimus83 - 2/15/2013, 12:12 PM
Good Conan the Barbarian. ...Bad Movie
TrollHunter - 2/15/2013, 12:12 PM
OH MY GOD YES! Gurdians of the Galxy just keeps getting better and better! Every choice they've made so far from the director to the cast has been perfect. Now I can't wait to see who they cast as Gamora!
TrollHunter - 2/15/2013, 12:14 PM
If you've seen Game of Thrones then you know that no matter how bad his movies have been, the guy is still PERFECT for Drax the Destroyer
Rhys - 2/15/2013, 12:16 PM
I'm cool with it.

Just because he was in some bad movies doesn't make him a bad actor...he's perfect for this part.
Havensent - 2/15/2013, 12:20 PM
TrollHunter - I couldn't agree more. If you've seen GoT and seen him as Drogo, you know better than to second guess this.

He would be a perfect choice if this ends up being true.
marvel72 - 2/15/2013, 12:21 PM
not a bad choice, cast gamora next please.
SageMode - 2/15/2013, 12:23 PM

80sFace - 2/15/2013, 12:24 PM
Drax is such a badass he NEEDS to be charismatic, so that when he's doing some badass sh*t it's fun. Maybe Momoa has the charisma, but I'm with some of the others here: The Rock was born to play this part. Not thrilled.
TheBeard - 2/15/2013, 12:24 PM
If true its a good choice.
genesis609 - 2/15/2013, 12:25 PM
girl from john carter should be gamora
kevberg - 2/15/2013, 12:25 PM
They should ask the Rock to test for Drax :)

Hes huge nowadays and he's bald....got many movies under his belt. seems perfect.
kevberg - 2/15/2013, 12:26 PM
But Mamoa looks suitable.
JatevinM - 2/15/2013, 12:26 PM
Marvel would be waiting waiting Momoa if they cast him as Drax. Cast Vin Diesel for this and save Momoa for a better role
TheMalcontent - 2/15/2013, 12:26 PM
I like it but I wanted him casted for the The Executioner in a later Thor sequel.
HULK2099 - 2/15/2013, 12:33 PM
Yeah this def could work, watching him fight Thanos would be sick
TheBeard - 2/15/2013, 12:33 PM
The rock is filming hercules at the same time as g.o.t.g. is set to film i believe as well. So way too busy.
M3T4LL0 - 2/15/2013, 12:35 PM
Great news. I hope he gets it the man is a great actor. Despite what people say he was a great conan.
shamo - 2/15/2013, 12:36 PM
who's suprised by this? this role was going to go to 1 of 2 people. The Rock or Jason Momoa and The Rock turned it down.

and assuming the 1st film goes well, i'd love to see Moondragon in the sequel. can't think of many women that could pass for his daughter though.
TheAbomination - 2/15/2013, 12:37 PM
I'm fine with this. Just let me know when they start announcing candidates for Rocket Raccoon.
DaenerysTargaryen - 2/15/2013, 12:39 PM
Unfortunatly the candidates we've heard are Adam Sandler, and Jim Carrey
capMO - 2/15/2013, 12:43 PM
Definately want him rather than the f#¤%&%n Rock
