Are These Directors Being Considered For HE-MAN & THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE?

A source from Schmoes Know, has given the site a list of candidates that are supposedly being considered to replace Jon M. Chu (“Justin Bieber's Believe”) as the director of the upcoming He-Man and the Masters of the Universe reboot. Come check it out.

In October, news came out that Jon M. Chu ("G.I. Joe: Retailiation") was no longer attached to direct Columbia’s live-action reboot of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. A couple weeks ago, Jon M. Chu explained that he left the project due to his commitment to the third live-action G.I. Joe film, which he will be directing for Paramount. Now, the website,, is reporting that their source has a list of directors that are in the running for the gig, and a few will certainly surprise. Take a look.
The names are pretty stellar in the Sci-Fi world and are as follows: Joe Cornish (ATTACK THE BLOCK), Rian Johnson (LOOPER), Andy Muschietti (MAMA), Kirk DeMicco & Chris Sanders (THE CROODS) and Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 JUMP STREET).

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is an American animated television series (1983-1985). The show, consisting of two 65-episode series, was produced by Filmation, based on the original toyline by Mattel.

I am Adam, prince of Eternia, defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull. This is Cringer, my fearless friend. Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said, "By the power of Grayskull! I have the power!" Cringer became the mighty Battle Cat, and I became He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe! Only three others share this secret: Our friends, the Sorceress, Man-At-Arms, and Orko. Together we defend Castle Grayskull from the evil forces of Skeletor! - He-Man Wiki

ForeverPowerful - 1/10/2014, 3:35 PM

If it is made it better not be mostly set in modern day Earth and we want Battle Cat and Panthor!
thewonderer - 1/10/2014, 4:05 PM
Geez, those are actually fantastic directors. I'm excited now.

Hope Phil Lord and Chris Miller do it. They make gold out of garbage

If Rian Johnson was chosen, this could become the next big action franchise, but I feel if Lord and Miller were chosen, then this would just become a self-referential fantasy parody. Btw, I love 21 Jump Street and Cloudy, but those directors are bad choices for a He-Man movie.
mitchybaby - 1/10/2014, 4:15 PM
id love to see this done right before im dead!
ROMsnotdead - 1/10/2014, 4:15 PM

GliderMan - 1/10/2014, 4:24 PM

Firgosaurus - 1/10/2014, 4:25 PM
Rian Johnson is overrated. Fvck these guys.
ALegendaryPanda - 1/10/2014, 4:28 PM
I'd love to see Rian Johnson do this!
MexicanSexyman - 1/10/2014, 4:28 PM
Rian Johnson would be awesome. I would love for the producers to get Rupert Wyatt to make the movie.
chewish - 1/10/2014, 4:32 PM

Yeah,, Rian Johnson would still be a great choice imo
Odin - 1/10/2014, 4:39 PM
They're still making this film -.-
thewonderer - 1/10/2014, 4:44 PM
You know nothing chewush

I can't see anyone taking a He-man movie seriously. The whole concept is just too corny. Just think about it.

Some blonde haired prince thrust a magical sword into the air like a giant penis and yells I have the power to transform in an alter-ego wearing fur underwear and a flimsy piece of armor with a Christian cross so he can fight some blue skinned old dude with a skull for a face.
MexicanSexyman - 1/10/2014, 5:45 PM
@Sentrosi, if Lord of the Rings, Starwars, every single superhero movie, Harry Potter, etc. can work, then so will the silly concept of He-man.
chewish - 1/10/2014, 5:49 PM

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man
chewish - 1/10/2014, 5:54 PM

Don't forget Pirates of the Caribbean. If freaking Pirates of the Caribbean worked, so can He-Man.
NoPhucksGiven - 1/10/2014, 6:01 PM
This idea is ass.
breakneckbeck - 1/10/2014, 6:01 PM
I really hope none of the quality directors on this list get tied up in what I am sure will be a crapfest of a movie
ALmazing - 1/10/2014, 6:45 PM
I used to love the original when I was little.

Dev - 1/10/2014, 6:55 PM
The only qualified director to handle this movie would be Rian Johnson, Looper was an incredible movie. He also directed alot of episodes of Breaking Bad as well so he can do drama.

When talking about He-Man you can always tell who's a homophobe.
Anyways He-Mans a fun swords, magic and a little tech fantasy tale. If done properly this can be huge.
First movie can be about Adam getting both halves of the sword becoming He-Man and fighting Skeletor.
The second movie can be about the Snake Men.
Third movie can be about Hordak and She-Ra.
Sadly someone like Michael Bay would probably produce and it'll be on earth again with goofy villains and nothing but explosions. And Megan Fox as Teela. Haha
Xuperthorman - 1/10/2014, 8:06 PM
This movie has so much potential
Xuperthorman - 1/10/2014, 8:08 PM
But really waiting for thunder cats, swat kats, mummies alive movies. Hollywood do it already.
SuperCat - 1/10/2014, 8:08 PM
My vote is for Cornish. Love "Attack the Block."
Niklander - 1/10/2014, 8:49 PM
Seriously do they really expect us to believe that Rian Johnson will do He-Man?! Joe Cornish and Andy Muschietti have a shot but the rest pretty mediocre for a science fiction movie.
AlexDeLarge87 - 1/10/2014, 10:50 PM
Most people dont seem to realise He-Man's potential. Like few others have said don right this could be [frick]ing amazing film.

The muscle power of Superman and attitude of Conan The Barbarian.
loki668 - 1/10/2014, 11:17 PM

Unless, you know, you have a lot of unemployed "fur-underwear manufacturers" as friends. In that case, you may want to make the film just to get them some work.
mgeoff88 - 1/11/2014, 12:08 AM
Wow, some of the directors on that list are really surprising.

The script must be great, if Joe Cornish and Rian Johnson are interested.
FOOM - 1/11/2014, 12:24 AM
Why not just cut to the chase and adapt Biker Mice from Mars for the big screen. It's the only thing which could be worse.
Danbojohnj - 1/11/2014, 1:03 AM
More Lord of the Rings with ray guns and less ''lets piss about in Courtney Coxes kitchen'' for 3/4 of the movie.
Ceejay - 1/11/2014, 1:11 AM
Fanboys only franchise that will never make a universal hit. Its based on silly names for silly toys again and there is only so much of the 80's audience who really give a shit enough to remind themselves how silly it really was. This is gonna be the next expensive flop.
TelaVizion - 1/11/2014, 1:33 AM
I would back up Joe Cornish for the job. Loved "Attack the Block".

I just hope this He-Man story will stay in his world... No damn crossover with Earth like the last movie. Base the movie off of the last He-Man series.

And make Kellen Lutz He-Man/Prince Adam..... Give him that franchise until I can find the right character in Marvel for him to be (first one to come to mind is Hulkling...)
