The series stars Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down), Eva Green (Casino Royale) Timothy Dalton (The Living Daylights and License to Kill), Reeve Carney (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger), Billie Piper (Doctor Who, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) and Danny Sapani (The Bill). The series is a frightening psychosexual thriller created, written and executive produced by three-time Oscar® nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator) and executive produced by Logan's Desert Wolf Productions, along with Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road, Call The Midwife), both of Neal Street. Of the eight episodes, the first two will be directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, who helmed The Orphanage and the acclaimed film, The Impossible starring Naomi Watts in her Oscar-nominated performance.

Penny Dreadful premieres May 11th on Showtime.

Sounds like a 'monster a week' storyline trying to be something dark and mysterious. Could be fun to watch - though will wait for it to appear online and marathon the first few episodes to get a feel for it.

Not sure how they intended it to be 'psycho sexual' with some of the characters. I understand Dorian Gray and possibly Dracula but unless they delve into necrophilia to explain Dr. Frankenstein's fascination with the dead and creation of his monster then I'm a little stumped.

Not too bad. Like a creepy version of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The comic, not the movie.
bayouboyz - 4/28/2014, 9:47 AM
Is it censored? The premium networks have a habit of putting free censored episodes online.
DalekEmperor - 4/28/2014, 10:06 AM
That was a great first episode. Waiting 3 weeks for the next one is gonna be hell.
GodzillaKart - 4/28/2014, 1:47 PM
This was pretty good!

This is the only time I ever watched a TV show and said, that is scary. Not easy to pull off.

To bayouboyz: it contains graphic (male) nudity, and I doubt it was censored at all. Give it a try, I think you will like it.
marvel72 - 4/28/2014, 4:48 PM
great start to the series,i'll definitely keep watching.
jeremy78 - 4/28/2014, 5:44 PM
I can see the validity of the League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen comparison, but it reminds me more of a darker version of an Eric Powell (writer and artist behind The Goon) comic called Billy The Kid's Old Timey Oddities. Loved it and can't wait for more!
