Guillermo del Toro Updates HULK TV Series, Nearly Directing THOR, THE WOLVERINE And More

Updating the status of Marvel and ABC's live-action Hulk series, during Collider's latest interview segment with Guillermo del Toro, he reveals comic book movies he nearly directed and more!

The good folks from Collider has posted yet another segment from their long chat with Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro. This time revealing the current status of Marvel's planned Hulk TV series, in addition to a number of superhero films he's nearly directed, watch the nearly-four-minute video interview below!

“I had one meeting with Marvel after Avengers and we had a very, very good chat. We have a writer that we want to bring on board, a very, very concrete name. I can’t reveal it, but we want to wait for that writer. It’s a writer who is otherwise engaged. So right now we are in a holding pattern until that writer becomes free. Then we’re going to do a new draft of the script.”

@UnknowHeroX, good job, that is that dumbest shit I've read online this whole day.
Celenco - 8/6/2012, 9:35 PM

I can't even begin to summarize how stupid that comment is, so here is the best I could do.

xcrementus - 8/6/2012, 9:38 PM
Del Toro...Dr Strange. Just think of his Dark Dimension, crazy puppets and makeup, and general weirdness.
How awesome would a Del Toro styled Nightmare would look!?!?! or Dormammu!
Bane2099 - 8/6/2012, 9:45 PM
Del Toro...Do Dr Strange...NOW LoL

VicSage - 8/6/2012, 9:56 PM
Where did all this hate for the guy come from? He's an amazing director with a unique vision. As Tim Burton has fallen off, I'd say he's, in a way, taken his place. Great director. Looking forward to Pacific Rim and Hellboy 3.
novaprime - 8/6/2012, 9:56 PM
Thor was perfect and the sequal sounds great and darkk!! I want deltoro or peter jackson to do a hulk movie them guys can do a high budget hulk film and make money out of itt

novaprime - 8/6/2012, 10:10 PM

yaktheripper - 8/6/2012, 10:19 PM
Agreed, del Toro , ALWAYS disappoints. I don't get the hype on this cat any longer. He's always attatched to really interesting sounding projects, and they always make me walk away scratching my head. He misses the mark, EVERY TIME.
95 - 8/6/2012, 10:21 PM
I like his movies. But damn, he does have a lot of projects on his hand.
kingwoompwoomp1117 - 8/6/2012, 10:22 PM
Not the biggest del torro fan, although Blade 2 is one of my favs!
AmazingFantasy - 8/6/2012, 10:24 PM
Make him do the next HULK movie.
MrDuck - 8/6/2012, 10:28 PM
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 8/6/2012, 10:32 PM
Hulk will fail, Thor will win, Wolverine, idk.
KilledHal9000 - 8/6/2012, 10:36 PM
Is he possibly waiting for...Damon Lindelof?
Tainted87 - 8/6/2012, 10:36 PM
I hated Hellboy, well, ok, didn't HATE, but it just wasn't as amusing as it was trying to be. I LOVED Pan's Labyrinth, however, and think it's his best movie by far.

I read however, that if he were to direct Doctor Strange, the first thing he would do would be remove the cloak of levitation.... which is a big no-no.
Tainted87 - 8/6/2012, 10:37 PM
Not saying I don't like Guillermo del Toro, I just don't think he's the best thing since sliced bread.
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 8/6/2012, 10:44 PM
I'd love to see Del Toro direct He-Man!
prototype87 - 8/6/2012, 10:57 PM
yeah i think he'd do a great job on that
Jollem - 8/6/2012, 10:58 PM
even a del toro-directed stamp collecting documentary would be awesome
UrbanKnight - 8/6/2012, 11:25 PM
Visually, DEL TORO and Thor woulda been a gift from the heavens!

Enjoyed Kenneth Branagh's Thor quite a bit but...

Imagine Del Torro with that script? Again not that it was the best but...
HULK2099 - 8/7/2012, 12:05 AM
him doing Doctor Strange is perfect match!
Ceejay - 8/7/2012, 12:30 AM
Chronos, The Devil's Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth all superior films to the crap he's phoned in for Hollywood. Del Toro is beyond this comic book stuff but he actually cares about the genre so he gets involved. Anyone who hasn't seen his other movies have no idea of the talents of the man and anyone saying Pans Labyrinth is crap has about as much understanding of cinema as a 4 year old!
timmyjingoro - 8/7/2012, 1:00 AM
Just let Del Toro make a live action Hulk MOVIE (it's not like he's inexperienced or anything. He's primarily a MOVIE director). Now that they've moved past the partial-control-of-the-monster thing in the Avengers, they should finally move on to some real Hulk stories like Planet Hulk and whatnot. I mean, Del Toro rules, Hulk is finally popular with even the general public, they've finally got the look and the effects right, and Marvel I'm sure has the money to shell out for it.

As for the Tv series, if they really go through with it, they'd better not skimp out. We need a Hulk that looks at least somewhat at the level of Avengers. Spend the money on the cgi/motion capture stuff, because guy-in-green-paint ain't gonna fly in 2012+.
Jerec350 - 8/7/2012, 1:15 AM
Personally I have enjoyed everything he has directed. I look forward to projects with his name attached to them. Most of all I am looking forward to a movie adaptation of the novels he and Chuck Hogan wrote, "The Strain Trilogy". I am not the biggest fan of Dr. Strange but I could definitely see his style as the best choice for that movie.
bhorwith22 - 8/7/2012, 1:20 AM
Maybe this is why they didn't announce a sequel to The Incredible Hulk? Perhaps this series would take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They wouldn't necessarily have to have Ruffalo either (CGI Hulk), although it would be difficult to not have him appear at all.
kemuael - 8/7/2012, 1:55 AM
Hulk tv series....FACE PALM
siggisuperman - 8/7/2012, 2:40 AM
Guillermo is very good and he would be 100% perfect for a Dr Strange movie...
Jollem - 8/7/2012, 2:51 AM
every cbm is "reinvented"
BillyBatson1000 - 8/7/2012, 2:53 AM
Curious about this being a weekly show. It will take a hell of a lot of time to create 'quality' CGI shots for the HULK sequences. This will either slow down the start of shooting even further - or 1/there are people already at work on them. Or 2/the Hulk will only appear briefly in each episode. I hated the old TV show, but to be fair, the character works best when he only appears for short sections.
AutobotCommander84 - 8/7/2012, 3:36 AM
I'm gonna make a guess as to what the writer is...Damon Lindleof?
Ace101 - 8/7/2012, 3:55 AM
Dr Strange...Thor..G.D.T :O wow. Still prefer a hulk movie though with mark ruffalo.
I would like to see a psychotic horror/thriller take on the hulk sequel. I want to see the current somewhat in-sync banner/hulk get broken to the extreme and see banner get trapped inside of the hulk and he is trying to navigate his own mind or the mind of the hulk. Remember his greatest enemy and greatest ally is the hulk. maybe be we can be introduced to the grey hulk and the guilt hulk. would love to see a meeting on a mental plane to have conversations between bruce and hulk. have Dr Strange cameo (im assuming this movie will be released after dr strange), he senses the hulks rage surfaceing and goes to help bruce/normal hulk ease their mind. So the final confrontation of the hulks and bruce within occurs within the mind. After the final battle Dr strange allows the hulk/ banner to remain with him in the mansion, hinting at a future defenders movie. end credit scene show the Leader being the cause of the fractured mind of bruce/hulk. And a mid credit scene of you know who doing some epic sht

when you look at Hulks rouge/villain gallery, well...pretty much everyone in the universe is on that list, you end up pretty mind [frick]d by the time u finish reading the list lol. And i didnt want to go with rulk storyline, as much as i like him, i didnt want to use the same villain type if you know what i mean. Yea i said i would like him to take on guilt hulk and/or grey hulk but thats in his own mind and not on the physical plane.

Just imagine this somehow the mind of bruce and hulk has become even more fragmented, bruce becomes fully suppressed within and is unable to gain any sort of control what ever aspect of bruce that was a part of the hulk is gone. The hulk now at the surface is just pure rage. Hulk goes on a rampage and kills some people. shield hears of this and makes their move on the hulk. a fight between the hulk and shield is about to begin. Hulk runs like a mother[frick]er towards the shield taskforce that is positioned some distance away. hulk is still running...then all of a sudden an intricate circle of light that contains patterns and inscriptions appears between the charging hulk and the taskforce. a figure phases into view above the circle of light in a battle ready position (with his body side on and his left arm extended out towards the hulk and the right arm raised to his face sort of like an archer with a drawn bow and arrow), The figure still bathed in some aura chants. The hulk continues charging. Close up on the figures eyes opening dramatically a wave of energy expands out from the figure revealing him to be Dr Strange. Dr Strange then summons the crimson bands of cyttorak to hold down the hulk, which appears to be a futile attempt, but dr strange knows this and sets upon the hulk nemorous spells then with physical body oppresed he sends the mind of the hulk deep within the subconscious using his astral projection method, and he to appears within the fractured world of bruces mind, he finds bruce lost and in despair and gives him a goal/tasks which he must reach/complete in order to become one again with the hulk. Dr strange states he cannot guide you the rest of the way (pretty much right from the start) and he must continue to maintain control of the physical body from the physical realm. he then flies out of there and back into his own body. Bruce now faces his fragmented mind.

its just an idea what do u guys/gals think.
GreenJeans - 8/7/2012, 3:56 AM
A live-action TV show about the Incredible Hulk, will only work if the Hulk is played by a massive bodybuilder painted green, a whole heap of prosthetics, and forced perspective. So long as they stay away from fright wigs and pants that magically shrink up past his knees as the hulk and return to full length below his ankles as Banner, it will work. The other thing they need to get right is the pseudo science.

mctrinket - 8/7/2012, 3:56 AM
I agree I'd like him to helm Dr. Strange.
blvdnoise - 8/7/2012, 4:29 AM
He just compared two to three years of life to marriage. LOL Hollywood.
phoenixforce9 - 8/7/2012, 4:58 AM
OMG! He should direct Thor 3!
