Want to hear the good news or the bad news first?

Good news is that the Academy Award-nominated Mark Ruffalo will be sticking around as Bruce Banner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for another four or five films, possibly even popping up in 2016's Captain America: Civil War to team-up with Spider-Man. However, the bad news is that if you were hoping to see the fan-favorite Hulk get his own solo adventure, chances are that won't be happening anytime soon as he revealed that Universal Studios still own the movie rights to a solo outing for the green goliath.

The always awesome Ruffalo does say that it's not an insurmountable obstacle to overcome, but due to the lucrative nature of a potential Hulk film, chances Universal wants to give up those rights without a fight aren't high. However, Marvel did find a way to bring Spidey home, so there's always a possibility they find a way to do the same with the Hulk.

Check out Ruffalo's comments in the video, provided by the nice folks at Collider, below or read the transcript that follows:

Collider: How many pictures do you have left on your Marvel contract?

MARK RUFFALO: I think it’s four now, but that could always go further. That could include different—I could show up in another character’s movie; I could do Avengers 3 and 4; I could do a Hulk standalone; I could do a combination of those things. That’s four or five, I think.

Collider: They are getting ready to do Civil War and Spider-Man is going to be a part of Civil War.

RUFFALO: Yeah.

Collider: I don't think you're a part of it, are you pissed off that you're not going to be able to work with Spidey until Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 or are you like 'Kevin, I can be in Civil War, there's no reason why Banner can't show up' or are you in it?

RUFFALO: I don’t know if I’m in it yet. I don’t know. Sometimes these things happen at the last minute in this world. I really don’t know where I fit in from here on out, and I’m not sure they do. As far as a Hulk movie, a standalone Hulk movie, Marvel doesn’t really have the rights to that yet. That’s still Universal’s property, so there’s that issue.

Collider: Is that for sure? Like did someone tell you that?

RUFFALO: Yeah, yeah. That’s a big impediment to moving forward with that. Now I don’t think that’s insurmountable, by the way, but I don’t know where it’s going from here for me.

What do you guys think? Would you like to see Ruffalo reprise his role in Captain America: Civil War? Or would you rather see him appear in another Marvel adventure like 2017's yet-to-be titled Spider-Man? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Marvel Studios presents “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Avengers: Age of Ultron features:

So you're telling me. All this time, the film rights to the Hulk solo have been at Universal and we are just learning this?

My interest in the MCU just went down like a shit ton considering Hulk, Spidey, and Daredevil are my 3 favorite Marvel characters and we have no idea whenever Season 2 of Daredevil will happen, we have no idea of what's going on with Spider-Man or anything in this [frick]ed up deal with Sony, and we likely may not have a Hulk solo film anytime soon.

Marvel, you made a deal to work with Sony so Spidey can get into the MCU which costed you $0. Either give Universal let's say 800 million for the rights to a Hulk solo or make a deal to work with Universal.

This news has ruined my day.

Nah. You're just ignorant. This has been known for years now. It's the same deal with Namor. He's owned by Universal.

I knew Universal had distribution rights but I thought that maybe they share the entire rights with Marvel Studios. Not Universal owning all the rights.

It's not shared. Universal owns the rights.

This was known for a long time. Universal owns the distribution rights to Hulk and Namor solo movies, which is why we won't see them getting their own movie.

Universal likely won't accept a payout for the same reasons Sony and FOX won't. It's more profitable to sit on the rights rather than sell them.

GIVE THE RIGHTS BACK TO MARVEL!

This has never been more appropriate.

@DrDoom

I was referring to all the right in terms of a Hulk solo. Like Universal and Marvel Studios equally are part of a Hulk film both each does different things.

I know Hulk can show up in other people's films. I was referring to the rights of just a Hulk solo film.

@Vegeta JJ, Luke Cage and Iron Fist aren't holding back Daredevil. It's going to work like the movies, where we have the individual series setting up a bigger picture (which will be the Defenders). As much as I like Daredevil, I can't wait for Luke Cage and Iron Fist. One of the appeals of the MCU is seeing the lesser known characters get spotlight time, and I think with Cage and Fist we could see two very unique properties.

Like Sony owns the rights to all the Spider-Man solo films. MS owns none of that.

I thought that when it comes to Hulk solos, MS and Universal are like 50/50 in terms they must work together so to speak to do Hulk solo films.

Not Universal completely owns the Hulk solo film right.

You get me @DrDoom

Daredevil isn't getting a second season before the Defenders. He'll have cameos in other MCU properties, if anything. Chill out.

Damn, that is the one little thing that is holding back Marvel is this rights issue. Now we learn that Marvel Studios/Disney still don't have the rights to Hulk and can't do a movie? They basically are on a Sony program with Hulk. Super weak. That's the one thing I can say about DC/WB is all their characters are in house.

How long does Universal have the contract for Hulk?
When does it expire, cause it's already been 7 years since we last seen a Hulk solo movie.

@Vegeta They aren't holding Daredevil back. They will each further the world that they all inhabit, and when they team up together, their next seasons will feel the ramifications of those worlds colliding.

And JJ, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist are by no means "lesser" characters. They just haven't gotten enough attention yet. Who knows how popular they could become once they get their own tv shows? Just because Daredevil is the big name, doesn't mean Luke Cage or Iron Fist can't be something that is looked forward too or is of equal importance.

@Vegeta If you think Luke Cage and Iron Fist are lesser characters compared to Daredevil than you know little about comics. In the Marvel Universe they are A listers a 'lesser character' would be someone like Justice or Hellcat.

This has been common knowledge for a while. Universal just needs to give that shit up. It's not like they're planning on doing anything with them anyhow.

So all this time when they've been making the excuse that it would be too hard to make a hulk movie (which I disagree with since The Incredible Hulk was pretty damn good) they didn't actually have the rights to make a solo hulk movie?
