No More Hulk for Eric Bana

Since Edward Norton doesn't sound enthusiastic about returning to the Hulk, ComingSoon.net asked Eric Bana if he is still interested in reprising the role...
It definitely was a longshot but with Ed Norton having so many problems with Marvel during the marketing of The Incredible Hulk, we decided to ask Bana if maybe we'd see him back in the role someday.

CS: I hate to ask about "The Hulk" because that seems like another life for you, but Ed Norton seems hesitant about doing more with Marvel, so do you think they might bring you back rather than having a fourth actor playing the character?

Bana: No chance of that happening. It's just something that I've done and I'm moving on forward. My road panned out different and I'm happy with the road I'm on.

AFTER ALL THE CRITICS,WHAT DO YOU EXPECT HIM TO SAY? WHY WOULD U GO BACK TO A ROLE FANS SCRUTINIZED U FOR, IT WASNT HIM, IT JUST WASNT THE WAY THE HULK SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE, ITS ALOT OF PRESSURE..FOR ANYBODY.
GUNSMITH - 8/3/2009, 9:45 AM
BS!

He'd do it in a heartbeat if he was asked an the $$$$ was there! ; D
LEEE777 - 8/3/2009, 9:46 AM
yeah me to, Lets hope Marvel are reading and sort out what they to sort out with Ed Norton. He should come back I thought he was pretty cool in the part.

PRMR77 - 8/3/2009, 9:46 AM
I thought he was a great Bruce Banner..Norton was just as good though
Rorschach01 - 8/3/2009, 9:47 AM
He likes the road he's on. Um okay what ever that road is, looks like the low one to me.
SirPrize - 8/3/2009, 9:47 AM
I agree with Ror.
SirPrize - 8/3/2009, 9:49 AM
thats a shame i enjoyed his performance its wasnt him it was the movie but i got used to norton already
AvengingAngel1022 - 8/3/2009, 9:53 AM
The Hulk is becoming the Punisher in terms of reprisals.

oh well - maybe they can just do a CGI Hulk and just leave it at that. Do we really need to see a transformation anyways? we can get that from a werewolf movie - I say we just have the actual Hulk in the Avengers and leave it at that.
Keven - 8/3/2009, 9:58 AM
I enjoyed Ed too. The movie is called the Hulk for a reason. He wanted more Banner's character in the movie, which translates more me time.

The movie versions of the Hulk and the Punisher has been in the wrong hands. Writing has been sub par and the directing has been utter crap. The last Hulk had potential but still fell short. With the Hulk you have to go over the top, exaggerate. Ripping a tank in half, tossing a tank, and tearing a turret off a tank should of been effortless for him. In both movies he was struggling with that.
SirPrize - 8/3/2009, 9:58 AM
well i liked the HULK i still say they could of had the same story with abomonation and still keep the same actors. The diden't have to recast it then make a movie based off the stupid tv show, Atleast HULK had more of a comic feel to it i enjoyed it. But really i can care less about who plays bruce banner it's all about the HULK as long as hes big and green i say bring it on. Hey mebey they'll do the vershion were someone runs out on the bomb test site it lunches bruce runs out he gets bumbarded with gama radition be comming the HULK.
Logan-X - 8/3/2009, 10:00 AM
I thought Norton was making a cameo in IM2?
teabag - 8/3/2009, 10:06 AM
Teabag who knows. It's all a rumor mill right now.
SirPrize - 8/3/2009, 10:11 AM
I didn't like Bana as Hulk. So I'm glad he's not coming back.
InstigatorGIRL - 8/3/2009, 10:23 AM
Bana was the Hulk! I thought CGI played the Hulk. =P
SirPrize - 8/3/2009, 10:24 AM
I blaim Bana's ears....he had no place bringing those babys to a comic book movie....i think he should be on the road to a decent plastic surgeon :)
teabag - 8/3/2009, 10:31 AM
I liked both Bana and Norton as Banner/Hulk.
TheCritic17 - 8/3/2009, 10:36 AM
Bana is awful, I have only seen him once in a film where he wasn't. That was Star Trek, by the way.
FateSucks - 8/3/2009, 10:41 AM
munich was awesome
Torque - 8/3/2009, 11:01 AM
Sometimes CBM is like the News of the World or the National Enquirer of comic book sites. (for a while there when we had the Golden Age of Boobage on the site, it was a bit like the Sun). Okay, maybe not as bad as those tabloids, but what about Norton's comments indicate that he doesn't want to be the Hulk anymore? Norton simply said "no comment" when he was asked recently. Which is what every other person that is contracted to Marvel does a lot of until Marvel gives them permission to comment. Even Favreau was all about the "no comment" until recently. As far as Bana, it's a shame that it didn't work out (even his name was cool, Bana / Banner), but I think that Norton was an excellent choice.
Cheesey1 - 8/3/2009, 11:05 AM
I don't think know one out there wants him to come back as the Hulk.
Bandrews1 - 8/3/2009, 11:12 AM
totally unrelated -

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/gi_joe/.

GI Joe is getting positive reviews. 6 good and only 1 negative so far.

Leee is winning.................god help us all.
Keven - 8/3/2009, 11:22 AM
FateSucks get real! Trek was probably Banas most uneven performance! The guy is a class actor. Chopper, Munich, he was the only good thing about Troy, and hes the stand out in Funny People..which is great, check it out, even though im not usually an Adam Sandler fan.
Rorschach01 - 8/3/2009, 11:24 AM
hey hey "with Ed Norton having so many problems with Marvel during the marketing of The Incredible Hulk".. WHEN the hell is this interview taking place??

it sounds too mid-2008.. the Norton situation against Marvel has lightened a bit.. this kind of news is just making things worse!!

SirJediFrank - 8/3/2009, 11:29 AM
Shoot i wouldn't do it either ... They get rid of me and then want me back .. screw off... good for him
thegreek - 8/3/2009, 11:42 AM
@ ror

let's not forget his ass-kickery in black hawk down
CorndogBurglar - 8/3/2009, 11:54 AM
@ Sirprize - Bana's low road must be pretty good! Cause Star Trek is the biggest blockbuster this summer!
Minotauro - 8/3/2009, 12:00 PM
SJF, hear hear or as the kids say, true indeed.
Cheesey1 - 8/3/2009, 12:29 PM
No one wants to go back to a role when you've been replaced already. It's just integrity.

Norton is a great actor but Marvel definitely took a risk hiring him, he's just problematic and that's not the kind of person you want to hire when you know you have long term plans with the character.

I think Marvel made the mistake of not looking ahead when hiring Norton...
Inohaku - 8/3/2009, 12:43 PM
HULK MIGHT HAVE WHAT THE PUNISHER MOVIE HAS, THE "DOORKNOB CURSE"...EVERY ACTOR GETS A TURN....
GUNSMITH - 8/3/2009, 1:05 PM
Minotauro - Bana was eclipsed by everyone elses perfomance in Star Trek. Bana's Star Trek performance was nothing compared to Black Hawk Down or Munich. He's a great actor but he is getting sub par roles lately. It's a shame since his is great talent.
SirPrize - 8/3/2009, 1:06 PM
KEV @ You know it man!!!! ; D
LEEE777 - 8/3/2009, 1:07 PM
eric was a good hulk man i really hope he change's his mind one day
Marvel Rules - 8/3/2009, 1:12 PM
I think he's a decent actor, but I'm glad he's not going to be playing Banner again.
BmanHall - 8/3/2009, 1:16 PM
Eric Bana was diffinetly not Banner material. I'm glad he is not taking the part because he would screw it up again. Good Bye, Bana!!! I know Norton is taking the part. He jujst can not say anything yet. HULK SMASH!!!!!!
THULK - 8/3/2009, 2:28 PM
I prefer Norton's Banner to Bana's Banner, TIH was a much better film then Hulk.

I hope Norton is coming back as Hulk and it would be sweet if he had a cameo in Iron Man 2
Osiris - 8/3/2009, 2:59 PM
What a dumb@ss question!!!

Why in the world would he????

ROR is right btw, Bana was great in Munich and he was the only good part about Troy (other than Brad Pitts' opening scene <--- That was AWESOME)!
Talontd - 8/3/2009, 3:35 PM
Awww does that mean that Hulk not Fire Everything!
Hulk be sad.

Im glad he is not coming back, he sucked as Bruce Banner. If you're reading this Edward, please please please make 2 Hulk sequels and be in the Avengers (for at least a small role!). Then there never has to be a Hulk movie made ever again
dancingmonkey08 - 8/3/2009, 3:40 PM
Bana is awesome in quite a bit. And was better in the role of Banner than Norton. I realize I'm the only one saying this, but it doesn't make it any less true.

Like ror01 said, just watch Chopper. You will become a fan of Bana's. He is that good. Unless you're a blouse wearin Poodle walker. Then you may want to just stick with Sex and the Shitty.

SirPrize

Thank you for changing your avatar. Your titties rein supreme once again. Your rack is screamin "BRRRRUMSKI!!"

SirPrize - 8/3/2009, 6:39 PM
I would MUCH rather see Norton in another Hulk flick than Bana. He's a decent enough actor, but Norton I think is actually a fan of the Hulk so he cared more about the film and what went on and his performance than Bana.
gtrman - 8/3/2009, 9:56 PM
GOOD! I hope that he never does another comic book movie again.
necrosage2005 - 8/3/2009, 10:19 PM
Yeah, I'm not a fan of Bana, though he did what he could with the character, I blame the director more than the actor for the failure of "The Hulk."

Norton's on the other hand is fantastic!
Stumblin - 8/4/2009, 9:46 AM
SirPrize

Thank you my brother. 100 times thank you.

gtrman, Stumblin and co.

I'm pretty stunned by the out-pour of "Ed Norton! What a great Banner!" What am I missing? He wasn't spectacular by any means. His supporting cast was mostly terrible (Liv Tyler I'm looking at you) and the story was rushed, and elementary. Had some good smashing and a great CGI battle. The "actors" in the film did nothing for me. Norton hasn't done anything great since maybe Fight Club. I bring this up a lot and I never get an answer as to why Ed Norton was a good Banner? I think too many people are in love with the name, and are just eating the tripe because he's "OOOOooo! Ed Norton!"
BillyBlack - 8/4/2009, 11:36 AM
well billy black im with you a little bit i liked bana as banner idk that movie was confusin but it focused more on the psychological side of the hulk but eric bana is a way better actor than norton even though norton is way good i want a better actor to be bruce hes gotta be able to show his fear of the hulk and how hes not able to have a normal life also bana looks more like he would be a nerdy scientist than norton does.
p.s. sirprize is my hero for that pic :)
SabretoothTiger - 8/4/2009, 12:12 PM
Guys Edward was better as Bruce. I could actually see Bruce Banner in the movie rather than Eric Bana playing a role who was rubbish. Although he rocked in Star Trek. And I am not an Edward Norton fan. I only ever saw him in the Italian Job and Fight Club and I thought he was ok. But I loved him in the Incredible Hulk. He was a more interesting Bruce than boring Bana!
dancingmonkey08 - 8/4/2009, 8:41 PM
Apparently he's going down the 'chick flick" road for a while. Hollywood loves using a new face for the same old love story. I think his best work was in Finding Nemo.
I can't take him seriously at all when looking at him, he's just kind of a douche.
TaffetaDarling - 8/5/2009, 1:09 AM
Ed sucked as Banner, but banner sucks in general anyway...But Bana 'really' sucked as banner. Justc ast a 'no name actor' and give most of the screen time to hulk and not banner...who the [frick] cares abot whiney banner anyway?
Jojo Risin - 8/5/2009, 11:11 PM
norton did a good job playing banner. bana was okay, but ang lee and the writers had to ruin everything. i hope norton comes back for banner. if not norton they should get buscemi! lol!
