BOX OFFICE: IRON MAN 3 Set To Hit $900 Million Worldwide By Tomorrow

Iron Man 3 continues to dominate at the worldwide box office as the Shane Black 3 helmed threequel will breeze through $800 million today to land with over $900 million by close of business tomorrow. Hit the jump for a few extra details!

As of yesterday, Iron Man 3 had taken over $204 million at the North America box office. Today, it is being reported that its current international cume of $581.6 million has taken its worldwide total to an amazing $794 million. It will pass $800 million today and $900 million by tomorrow. This means that a final box office gross of over $1 billion is now guaranteed! The question now of course is exactly how much will the movie end up making by the end of its run? Iron Man 3 does of course face some stiff competition this weekend at the international box office as J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness has opened in many overseas locations and Paramount have been giving it a BIG marketing push after the last instalment didn't perform as well as expected. However, despite the fact that The Great Gatsby is released in North America today, it's thought that the Marvel Studios movie will still take upwards of $70 million over the weekend (thereby retaining the #1 spot).

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin
Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts
Don Cheadle as Rhodey/War Machine
Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian
Rebecca Hall as Dr. Maya Hansen
Ashley Hamilton as Jack Taggert
James Badge Dale as Eric Savin
Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan

LMB10 - 5/10/2013, 9:27 AM

SageMode - 5/10/2013, 9:34 AM
Haters, you are more than welcomed to start the tear fest any moment now.

Oh wait, it's already started.
DukeAcureds - 5/10/2013, 9:34 AM
Has Star Trek been released in the US, yet? Because that film is badass. Wait 'till that comes out. We all know what Stark's gonna be screaming, then.
UltimaRex - 5/10/2013, 9:36 AM

This is GREAT news for Marvel having their 1st Billion Dollar Plus move that is not the Avengers. So as much as DC ONLY fans were hoping for Marvel's 1st Flop (Green Lantern anyone) They instead got the biggest movie of the year. Oh by the way I can't wait for MOS
Gromblidor - 5/10/2013, 9:54 AM
The only good thing about this movie was the Thor trailer. Shit movie. Epic fail for a final chapter. Totally disgraced the Manderin . You should stick to Lethal Weapon movies Shane Black.

shit ... hard to tell :)
Omarvls - 5/10/2013, 10:00 AM
@Gromblidor I agree with you IM3 was not a great movie
as We wanted it to be, I mean the Mandarin thing was a total JOKE and believe me Marvel knows it got really lucky pulling that stunt it won't happen again but having said that I'm happy it it was a success just shows that Marvel it the standard that everyone else is coping including DC/WB
JoeMomma29 - 5/10/2013, 10:00 AM
Congrats to IM3!!!!
JoeMomma29 - 5/10/2013, 10:01 AM

good movie, glad its reached nearly reached a billion so early on.

star trek into darkness isn't going to be much of a threat to iron man.
ATrueHero1987 - 5/10/2013, 10:13 AM
@LEVI Of course not. Those were GREAT movies. Those movies were game changers for CBMs(well maybe not Spider-Man 2 but it's still the best Spider-Man movie to date).

I also think that's the problem on this site. People expect EVERY CBM to be like those movies.
lucio7lopez - 5/10/2013, 10:13 AM
Go gO! Iron-man is a real success for the CBM! Everybody win with this, and we can have more CBM in the future. Because is true: money makes the world go around!
Marqy47 - 5/10/2013, 10:15 AM
Great news ... that 1B is a must

Nice. Well deserved.
Kingdork - 5/10/2013, 10:21 AM
ATrueHero1987 - You nailed it. Not every CBM has to be a game changer, or the next "GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME" (seems like there's one every year for some people ^^). IM3 was good. Great fun, great entertainment. It's not a perfect film by any means, but it's a good one.
MrYurMomm - 5/10/2013, 10:23 AM

GodzillaKart - 5/10/2013, 10:24 AM
I you assume IM and TDK are the two best CBM trilogies, and look at the six movies, IM3 is the third best of the bunch.
GoILL - 5/10/2013, 10:25 AM
Glad to see this will join the billion dollar CBM club along with The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers.
GodzillaKart - 5/10/2013, 10:25 AM
I think Benedict would make an awesome Dr. Strange.
robsncoppers - 5/10/2013, 10:26 AM

Oh wait. I loved this movie. Deal with it.
gaikinger - 5/10/2013, 10:27 AM
It is a good movie but.....hate the twist and hate the ending
MrYurMomm - 5/10/2013, 10:30 AM

Hell no to Benedict Cumberbatch to Doc Strange, I think Jon Hamm would be better suited.

IM3 deserves it. Just because the fanboys think it didn't meet their expectations doesn't mean it's not enjoyable to the general audience. Avatar made over 2 billion and that movie didn't deserve my $10, IMO. Man of Steel I hope it can reach IM3 numbers, but internationally Marvel is killing it right now. It's smart marketing and MARVEL has a proven track record now. If Thor makes a billion and Cap can come close, then guess what you're going to get a budget for TA2 that could reach 500K and if the success continues throughout phase 3 then the sky's the limit.
I really don't understand the trolling (hate) of this movie and the MCU. Just because they make a product that's enjoyable for the entire family doesn't make it inferior it makes it a comic book movie. When did you start enjoying comics haters? Probably 7-10 age range. Could you imagine having this as a young kid? Everyone that complains about this movie or the "twist" need to seriously reevaluate themselves and what they consider good entertainment.
