Don Cheadle Talks THE AVENGERS 2; Shane Black Comments On Extremis

Don Cheadle reveals whether or not we should expect to see War Machine make an appearance in the highly anticipated sequel to Marvel's The Avengers, while Iron Man 3 writer and director Shane Black elaborates on the decision to use the Extremis armour.

Talking to Fandango yesterday, Iron Man 3 star Don Cheadle was quizzed on whether or not we can expect to see him appear in a sequel to Marvel's billion dollar hit, The Avengers. Unfortunately, no explanation was given as to why we didn't see Rhodey in that film (perhaps we'll get an answer next May?) but the actor did reveal that "everything has been discussed" when it comes to War Machine appearing in the planned sequel.

"I don't know. The good thing about the Marvel Universe is that all the characters can intersect and everybody can play with each other. So, that may happen just for War Machine on his own. We'll see. Everything's been discussed."

Meanwhile, in a separate video interview with Comic Vine, writer and director Shane Black was quizzed about why they're using the Extremis armour in Iron Man 3. Judging by the comments made below, it definitely sounds as if the events of The Avengers played a role in the decision. We still don't know an awful lot about how big of a part it will play in the highly anticipated threequel, but the Extremis armour was possibly unveiled on the floor of the San Diego Comic-Con yesterday (if you missed it, find those images HERE).

"Because in all the things that we could come up with which would sort of take this to a grittier place, a sort of high-tech Michael Clayton style thriller place, we thought Extremis worked. What are you gonna do after aliens? When there are giant aliens coming out of the sky, what are you gonna do? So, we've decided to try something a little more bizarre and interesting."

Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts
Don Cheadle as Rhodey/War Machine

wouldn't mind seeing war machine again in iron man 3,iron man & war machine kicking ass again side by side.

Deadpool101 - 7/15/2012, 6:33 PM
I hope that Extremis suit looks better on screen
ThreeBigTacos - 7/15/2012, 6:34 PM
Not to mention aside from the suitcase, Tony (in the MCU) needs a better armor deployment system to keep up with trouble.
YOUNGBL00D - 7/15/2012, 6:36 PM
I watched the video, he said Michael Crichton, not Michael Clayton. Clayton doesn't make sense.
RSDhillon - 7/15/2012, 6:37 PM
@marvel72 He IS in Iron Man 3....
Avenger32 - 7/15/2012, 6:38 PM
So, is mandarin the villain in this? I've heard different things.
95 - 7/15/2012, 6:40 PM
@Avenger32 The Mandarin is a confirmed villain.
silverdog - 7/15/2012, 6:40 PM
shawarma-chine!! awesome!!
musashi - 7/15/2012, 6:43 PM
Why didn't anyone ask where War Machine was during the Iron Man 3 panel? I just assumed he was busy doing other stuff.
musashi - 7/15/2012, 6:44 PM
@intruder It's worth becoming an actor just to do that to Jessica Alba! Lol
95 - 7/15/2012, 6:47 PM
Shane Black is my favorite directorial choice by Marvel. He's set to make the most badass Iron Man film. China, Miami, Malibu— it's gonna be sexy. Even the cream-red armor is sexy. And I'm sure The Mandarin scenes will be more badass than Kill Bill Vol. 1. Oh yeah, and Shane Black is actually funny, and not "I'm-so-witty" funny.
JerBear - 7/15/2012, 6:47 PM
That gif makes me really horny, please stop it intruder :|
95 - 7/15/2012, 6:48 PM
"shawarma-chine". lol.
Good one @silverdog.
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 6:50 PM
aka I dont care. Cut the check lmao.

His House of Lies show on Showtime is excellent tho. Check that out.
eleven59 - 7/15/2012, 7:11 PM
Lol im53
eleven59 - 7/15/2012, 7:12 PM
Why does he look away in shame lmao!
EastcoastAvenger - 7/15/2012, 7:32 PM
What DO you do after aliens burst out of the sky to kill you?!!! What do you do next?
Reminds me of the dialog between Batman and Gordon on the rooftop at the end of BB. The rules of escalation and all.

Blitzed - 7/15/2012, 7:35 PM
@Musashi Since when did Paul Walker become an actor?
Oxbow - 7/15/2012, 7:53 PM

They should have had him just show up after they all got loki, say he was doing other stuff and gone out with them for shawarma. you have tony make a shawarmachine joke at the restaurant and your out. play with the big universe concept a little. They totally ignored him
MadJakHatesSpinoffs - 7/15/2012, 7:55 PM
I have faith in this movie now that Shane Black is involved. He's the genius behind the first two Lethal Weapon movies. IMO, the first LW was one of the most badass action movies ever.
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:10 PM
Great actor but he plays a horrible Rhodey. cant blame him. Fault of the director & writers for writing him so wesk.
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:11 PM
Jamie Foxc should of been War Machine. Atleast him and RDJ had some kimda chemistry.
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:12 PM
Better question where was War Machine during The Avengers!?

I know the aliens were chump change weakling but still he could of been useful. Like the 500 SHIELD agents who dudnt lift a finger lol
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:14 PM
They made such a big deal of why RDJ couldnt join The Avengers but ont invite Rhodey?

Prolly the only capable & mentally stable person out of the team.
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:16 PM
RDJ makes that movie. He makes marvel work.
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:17 PM

Lazy writing. Contradicts everything the universe has been building on. WM should of been featured on a SHIELD screen in active duty or unavailable.
nihcamja - 7/15/2012, 8:18 PM
I just they dont kill him or nick fury off like every other black guys in film
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:20 PM
Why didnt SHIELD fight the aliens? I dont get that at all. They had air ships. And nukes lol.

I know galaga is addicting but what about saving the planet.

SLJ giving clichè speeches during the fight lol Who are you talking to? How bout you help defend the planet!!
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:21 PM
Capt America isnt the smartest. He isnt even from this century. WM is a soldier. A capable soldier who doesnt crash planes into icebergs. Idiotic ending.

WM is more capable then cinematic Cap. And better choice.
GodzillaKart - 7/15/2012, 8:25 PM
Iron Man 2, for all it's flaws, is so much better than so many other Batman Begins, for example.
GodzillaKart - 7/15/2012, 8:29 PM
@IM53: I would have to go back and watch the Crow, but great list, Man!
GodzillaKart - 7/15/2012, 8:30 PM
IronMan is in my top two for sure, and Superman the movie is dated, but almost flawless for the time. Spider-Man 2 is great, Avengers is awesome. Very good list.
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:34 PM
lol IM2 better than

Troll often? lol
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:35 PM
Did you see TFA? lol.

The kids from Red Dawn had better tactics then cap & The Howling Commandos lol
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:37 PM
Big Disrespect to Superman, to put it behind The Avengers. Donner was a talented man.

IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:38 PM
Lets be honest.

The score of Superman is more memorable then The Avenger's mobie.
IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:44 PM
lol but im right tho. Dont be mad.

John Williams score is more memorable than Avengers.

IgnurRant - 7/15/2012, 8:47 PM
Your one of my favorite commenters on here. Im a fan. really. Some of the best trolling iv'e seen.

Makes me feel that much better bout this small victory. Slight work. lol.
Hawkeye5790 - 7/15/2012, 8:51 PM
Since the War Machine armor is the goernment's property ans there was an alien invasion. Wouldn't it make sense that Rodey would be protecting the US president.
