IRON MAN 3 PRESS JUNKET: Robert Downey Jr. on Negotiations for IM4, 5 & 6

IRON MAN 3 PRESS JUNKET: Robert Downey Jr. on Negotiations for IM4, 5 & 6

While at the Iron Man 3 press conference, we ask Robert Downey Jr. the question that every fan wants to know: Will he return for more Iron Man movies? Read on to find out what he had to say about it..

While we didn't get a sit down 1:1 with Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. at the Iron Man 3 press junket (a rare few did), our very own "Galactus," got in a question during the big press conference with all the actors. See the outcome here...

CBM: Robert. There is a definite "finality" with this movie, but you know you're never going to get rid of this character, you're too perfect for it. So my question is, how go the negotiations for Iron Man 4, 5 and 6?

RDJ: (Long pause, audience chuckles) I'm not at liberty to discuss that. I do want to say that our stunt coordinator came to me at one point and said, "You see how Don just rolled into the room and fired off all those shots, the guys fell and he went just exactly where he was supposed to go?" I said, "Yeah, what are you getting at?" And he goes, "Nuthin". (Audience laughs)

The future, as usual is uncertain, and I think the great thing is that we never could've known what and who was gonna come togther for the third Iron Man, and usually the third of anything struggles to even meet the first two let alone the first one. In all earnestness, things are very much in flux right now. Marvel has their plans, and we're all living and growing, and we'll see what happens.

Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968.

“Iron Man 3” is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing and Jon Favreau, Louis D'Esposito, Stephen Broussard, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Charles Newirth, Stan Lee and Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film releases May 3, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

4, 5, and 6. Lol. You put him on the spot with that one. Lol
kaijunexus - 4/30/2013, 9:48 AM
So this all boils down to...

CBM: "Are you doing Iron Man 4,5,6?"

RDJ: "I don't know. We'll have to see"

Jollem - 4/30/2013, 9:49 AM
Pitt - 4/30/2013, 9:55 AM
'You can't give in' - Dent voice

Looks like Tony Starks will be here thru phase 3
GodzillaKart - 4/30/2013, 9:56 AM
Oh stop, JCameron!
Mego - 4/30/2013, 9:56 AM
RDJ knows very well he cant say things that could negatively effect the film while its in theaters. Thats the way the game is played.
So if hes bored of Stark and moving on we won't hear him say that for awhile.

He's a real actor and hes approaching 50 and he's been doing Stark for 6 years. If he does Stark again it will probably be one last time in Avengers 2.

No one would want to play 1 character for over a decade when they have options.

ThatOneDude - 4/30/2013, 9:58 AM
I'm going to IM3 Friday with the mindset of this being the last Iron Man..

RDJ probably won't be back after Avengers 2 but that'll be okay with me honestly
SageMode - 4/30/2013, 9:58 AM
And here comes the ANNOYING troll JCameron. Smh.
I thought you disappeared into oblivion.
NeoBaggins - 4/30/2013, 10:04 AM
That exchange was pretty cool. Didn't hear what others had to ask, but I bet that was THE definite highlight.
SageMode - 4/30/2013, 10:06 AM

A basic user that's NEVER been banned. How's your record lookin? Looks like your ready for another vacation soon. Hopefully.
Greengo - 4/30/2013, 10:06 AM
In other words:

It depends how much they pay him.
RaMan - 4/30/2013, 10:07 AM
Relax, RDJ is still Iron Man and yes he will be back for Avengers 2:

Marvel: Phase Two hasn’t even started to hit theaters, but sometimes you just want to rush to desert. While walking the red carpet at the Iron Man 3 premiere, writer-director Joss Whedon was asked a couple questions regarding The Avengers 2. First up, since it sounds like Robert Downey Jr. is considering retirement from the Marvel Universe, some may be wondering if we’ll see Iron Man flying around in Whedon’s film. Whedon responded, “I am not the guy who has to worry about him being replaced. He is Iron Man at this point. When I heard that he was cast I knew that something had just changed, and I usually don’t know stuff like that.” It sounds fairly certain that Downey is on board for The Avengers 2, but beyond that, Whedon doesn’t know if the actor will continue with the series.

Is there a transcript?
aRandomSinisterClone - 4/30/2013, 10:16 AM
please starting doing transcripts. the video's rarely work right.
marckos - 4/30/2013, 10:17 AM
I've just see the movie here! And I love it. 8/10
Happy11 - 4/30/2013, 10:29 AM
I think Avengers 2 will be his RDJ final marvel film and I.definitely can't see him in anymore solo Iron Man films, but money talks.
ParisSun - 4/30/2013, 10:31 AM
Marvel/Disney will be hard pressed to end a successful series or replace RDJ. I would hate to see them stretch the series for the sake of money but we know how Hollywood is. How do you stop a series that's may make over half a billion world wide? My hope is that creativity wins out. If it's time to put IM to rest, then let it happen.

May hope is that Evans or Hemsworth can step up to the plate. Ultimatel they may have to hand the keys to another high level actor.

Greengo - 4/30/2013, 10:32 AM
I know wtf is going on here...

Marvel is notorious for being difficult to work with... I bet they aren't willing to pay up. They're are doing a cost benefit analysis.

And at the end of the day they probably feel they could replace and aging RDJ with a younger, cheaper actor.

As much as I love RDJ & his version of Tony Stark, I'd be happy to see him in other films,

Greengo - 4/30/2013, 10:34 AM
Actors who can fill the role of Tony Stark and pick up mantle of Iron Man DO EXIST...

Believe it or not.
mrHJK - 4/30/2013, 10:39 AM
Seems like most people are cool with him retiring the role as long as he does Avengers 2
LucasMend - 4/30/2013, 10:44 AM
I'd say enought of Iron Man solo movies for a while, specially after this third one. Tony Stark alone is starting to get boring and lazy written. Just like Jack Sparrow in his fourth movie. They're hiring bad people to write him in his solo adventures.
Keep him in Avengers. He works perfectly in a group. Whedon and Favreau know how to handle the character. And a few years later bring a new solo movie, only if it's actual well written!
JorL5150 - 4/30/2013, 10:54 AM
If anyone is ever surprised he does 4,5, and six- id like to talk to you about an incredible investment oppurtunity.
exe - 4/30/2013, 10:56 AM
[frick] that Iron Man 3 twist. Mandarin Kingsley is growing on me as one very intimidating villain which will soon reveal his magical ring powers, then poof! Enter lame attempt at comedic twist followed by a lamer fire breathing Jim Carrey ripoff.
Inhuman - 4/30/2013, 11:00 AM
Pshhh, I highly doubt they'll be 6 movies let alone a #4 lol
Fogs - 4/30/2013, 11:07 AM
Paltrow is so beautiful in IM3.
Fogs - 4/30/2013, 11:08 AM
"fire breathing Jim Carrey ripoff" - wow, you guys really have imagination.
tanhulk12 - 4/30/2013, 11:19 AM
Saw the movie in India and was really disappointed. The big twist was a let down, felt like the the ending was kinda pointless. Don't want to ruin the ending but think the movie should have been better and no AC/DC makes Tony Stark feel like a mature guy which he is not.
SageMode - 4/30/2013, 11:23 AM

Yeah I know right?, He really struck a low blow on that one (sarcasm)
ParisSun - 4/30/2013, 11:24 AM
RDJ's star power would be hard to replace but while we're playing:

Bradley Cooper: Ant-man
Olivia Wilde: Wasp
Emma Watson (outside the box right): Scarlet Witch
Eddie Redmayne: Quicksilver
Jennifer Lawrence: (wasted as Mystique) Ms. Marvel
Jude Law: Vision
DefcoN - 4/30/2013, 11:31 AM
I want him to continue, but it's understandable that an actor may want to explore other roles in it's career. No matter what happens with him, every time I see this guy on screen, I will always go and say "that's Tony Stark!", even if he is 80 years old.
SageMode - 4/30/2013, 11:32 AM
^^ So James Bond could have over 20 movies, Batman could have 7, and Superman could have 6, but Iron Man has 3 and that's enough? .....................
SageMode - 4/30/2013, 11:33 AM

You got your ticket and bags packed yet?
Zarog - 4/30/2013, 11:35 AM
@darkmetal No one would want to play the same character for a decade+ if they have options? Hugh Jackman disagrees according to his willingness to sign up for 7 films in 14 years playing Wolverine.
SageMode - 4/30/2013, 11:42 AM

It'll work, when you have that Red X over your face in the Hall of Shame. Can't fight the inevitable.
SageMode - 4/30/2013, 12:07 PM

I know being irrelevant would cause you to be speechless. I've seen many come and go (with you being one of the latter), so it's understandable. Trust me.....
bbarber2323 - 4/30/2013, 12:39 PM really need to go away. In all my time here, you've been the biggest troll on this site. Not only that, you take it a step further by being a coward of a man. Go away dude. There are millions of forums made for dickheads like you.

Side note...$10 says Sage Mode would whoop your ass in a fight. 7 year old daughter would!
thebearjew - 4/30/2013, 12:47 PM
sooooo if i wrote good articles for a while on here somehow you guys who run CBM would fly me to press conferences and somehow pay me???????
Knight - 4/30/2013, 12:51 PM
Since I never agreed with Robert's casting as Iron Man (and still don't. It should have been Colin Farrel), I think he needs to retire the role after Avengers 2.
marvel72 - 4/30/2013, 12:53 PM
three more would be great but i think we need two more avengers sequels then maybe iron man 4.

saying that if iron man 3 does a billion expect to see iron man 4 added to phase 3.
Greengo - 4/30/2013, 1:13 PM
lol you guys are hilarious! : )
