James Badge Dale Joins The Cast Of IRON MAN 3 As COLDBLOOD

James Badge Dale Joins The Cast Of IRON MAN 3 As COLDBLOOD

Well, as Eric Savin - but obviously we will see the character become the cyborg villain. Anyway, the Shame actor has joined the already very impressive cast. Click for the details..

Deadline report that Shame actor James Badge Dale has signed on to star in Iron Man 3 for director Shane Black. Apparently he would play Eric Savin, a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army who becomes the cyborg Coldblood after stepping on a land mine.

Badge Dale also recently appeared in The Grey, and has just finished filming The Lone Ranger for Disney. We will see him next in the Robert Zemeckis-directed Flight with Denzel Washington and World War Z with Brad Pitt.

Iron Man 3 will follow Warren Ellis' six-issue "Iron Man: Extremis" comic book arc. Robert Downey Jr, will of course return as Tony Stark, alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley and Rebecca Hall.

Good actor. He was great in THE PACIFIC.
grifter - 5/16/2012, 10:49 AM
I have never even heard of Coldblood..
LucasMend - 5/16/2012, 10:51 AM
Never heard about this character, but damn the cast is looking great so far!
write33 - 5/16/2012, 10:58 AM
very good actor!!

lame ass character, but eh, in the hands of Shane BLlck? I have high confidence they will strip down the origin and make it into something quality.

man, IM3 has the best cast to date of any IM film..and that is saying something!
nuck82 - 5/16/2012, 10:58 AM
He was really good in Pacific. To bad pacific wasnt as good as band of brothers..
marantaz - 5/16/2012, 11:03 AM
I'm not familiar with the character ColdBlood, but he looks like an early version of Deathlok... am I close? If that's the case, then I'm going to assume that Stark tech is used to blend man and machine that will eventually lead to Deathlok... I hope. Always loved Deathlok.
RorMachine - 5/16/2012, 11:04 AM
I had heard of Coldblood but honestly can't recall reading any stories involving him. Seems like a strange choice, but my guess is he will be substituted for the character of Mallen from Extremis.
write33 - 5/16/2012, 11:04 AM

random to this thread, but I agree. I love Band of Brothers, I enjoyed Pacific but it wasn't nearly as good. ah well. ...still, good actors & production values in it.
cmay13 - 5/16/2012, 11:08 AM
I liked him in 24
Duskbyday - 5/16/2012, 11:11 AM
Wow....I was way off...
SHHH - 5/16/2012, 11:11 AM
OdinsBeard - 5/16/2012, 11:11 AM
i wonder if this will lead to Rodey becoming part machine also?
GeekyCheekyChic - 5/16/2012, 11:13 AM
maybe he will be a hired gun or ally of Mandarin ? If Cold blood is the only villain then hopefully the script and direction shines either I will be there at midnight when it comes out somewhere in manhattan ny.
Duskbyday - 5/16/2012, 11:13 AM
Well that means no Ghost :( I assume Coldblood is the Mallen equivalent for the film?
GodzillaKart - 5/16/2012, 11:14 AM
I would like to make a general request: Could Comicbookmovie.com please start pushing "Snow White and the Huntsman" a little more. There was a millisecond that they didn't have 12 trailers for it going simultaneously and I've forgotten the movie exists.
OdinsBeard - 5/16/2012, 11:15 AM
suspensesmith@ while i would like to see mandarin also the world of Iron Man lends itself to tech vs tech battles very well. Iron Man has tech themed baddies, always has. Cap has war themed baddies and Thor has cosmic level baddies.

I have no qualms with tech vs tech fights. imho it fits the theme of the movie best. how can man and machine work together to achieve a better future?
marknjoanna - 5/16/2012, 11:16 AM
nice sign on for marvel, this movie is looking better all the time.

SuspenseSmith - 5/16/2012, 11:10 AM
Report Comment Just do the damn Mandarin!

I don't want to see tech vs. tech again... just stop it.

isnt the rings tech based,i was thinking they came off a space ship but i could be wrong.
DanteSparda - 5/16/2012, 11:21 AM
So they are introducing cyborgs already? Perhaps at the end of the film the villain(s) beat the crap out of War Machine, and the only way of saving him it's to turn him in a cyborg like in the comics.

CCB1984 - 5/16/2012, 11:23 AM
excellent cast here as Variety confirms that Rebecca Hall, Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley have joined as well.. James Badge Dale is going to make a great villain, he was in The Departed, Shame and HBO's The Pacific...one the most underrated character actors working today
Superheromoviefan - 5/16/2012, 11:24 AM
i can't wait to see him
fadersdream - 5/16/2012, 11:26 AM
Coldblood came from Marvel Comics Presents... it was a good story. Very typical of the time but well done.
During the same arc Deathlok was brought back.

COLDBLOOD Powers and abilities

Eric Savin was converted into the cyborg Coldblood-7 by Dr. Gina Dyson and other Project: Ultra-Tech surgeons following designs by Mako. This gave him superhuman strength, speed, stamina, and durability, and enhanced sensory systems. Coldblood also has the ability to interface with virtually any computer system, and, by mentally entering "cyberspace," to communicate with such systems. He has a wetware-grafted computer grafted to his organic brain, a plasti-steel-reinforced skeleton, an artificial heart, synthetic hemoglobin, and artificial right eye, and artificial limbs. The right half of his face is an armored cybernetic implant. The organic portion of Coldblood's body still requires food, drink, oxygen and sleep. His in-built computer requires a recharge of electricity every twelve months of active service. The portion of Coldblood's organic brain that controls personal memories was removed during surgery that made him into a cyborg.
Coldblood wears body armor and uses conventional firearms, including a .357 automatic gun implanted in his artificial left hand. Mako and Project: Ultra-Tech also specially designed a high speed automobile for him, with built-in guns, which can be remote controlled by a device in Coldblood's left wrist.
Coldblood is an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, highly trained in commando fighting, and is a superb marksman with conventional firearms.
Duskbyday - 5/16/2012, 11:26 AM
Weird they didn't say Coldblood on site and not Savin, wonder if this is similar to Proto Goblin speculation a while back.
AC1 - 5/16/2012, 11:26 AM
I'm guessing he probably won't become Coldblood (seems like a lame villain), and just appear in his military alter-ego, as some corrupt character.
GUNSMITH - 5/16/2012, 11:28 AM
marvel72 - 5/16/2012, 11:35 AM
coldblood 1st appeared in marvel comics presents 26,i've got it not a bad story.

i definetly wouldn't thought of him appearing in iron man 3,so fingers crossed we've got mandarin, ghost & coldblood.
MassExecutions - 5/16/2012, 11:37 AM
Ditto to Ror. I bet the character is a mashup with Mallen.
m0th3r - 5/16/2012, 11:37 AM
Checkout the Wiki..is it me or does anyone find it interesting he doesnt stay a villian in the comics and he sides with Cap during Civil war? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coldblood

I guess I should of said guy in a suit vs guy in a suit.

When I saw Whiplash in the trailer without the armor, I was excited. But then at the end he put that suit on and I was like... damn it!

me to marvel is winning but its not perfect ie.

ironman 1 vs guy in a suit

ironman 2 vs guy in a suit (for the main battle anyways.

thor vs suit with no guy lol.

and lo and behold even cap am . in ww II ran up on a guy in a suit lmao.

i think its going to kill ultron (the best suit guy or no guy) before we even get to him.
VIKEME - 5/16/2012, 11:47 AM
I really only know this guy from the third season of 24 but he seems like a solid actor. Not sure about using Coldblood as a villain tho.
Marqy - 5/16/2012, 11:48 AM
Interesting, I never heard of Coldblood. Im glad that they are using the Extremis storyarc cause it is one of the best and since they are introducing a new suit in every movie I hope that Tony will build the Extremis Armor .

GreyChaos13Zero - 5/16/2012, 11:58 AM
Coldblood, good or bad guy?
Nubase - 5/16/2012, 11:59 AM
no mandarin = fail!
swillboy - 5/16/2012, 12:00 PM
Deathlok would be better.
GreyChaos13Zero - 5/16/2012, 12:03 PM
it's right on the headline. villain, that's weak, never heard of him?)
Equivocal - 5/16/2012, 12:08 PM
to each, his own !

Iron Man vs Tech baddies

Thor vs Cosmic villains

Spidey vs creatures

Punisher vs Crime Lords

batman vs clowns

Hulk vs beasts

superman vs outer space creatures

and the list goes on and on and on ...
so Iron man versus another tech baddie, why not???
he does it all the time in the comics
ComradeGrey - 5/16/2012, 12:10 PM
Tony Stark's past is going to come back to destroy Iron Man
cashsteele - 5/16/2012, 12:10 PM
Maybe they are combining this character with Mallen giving a reason for the Extremis to be used on a soldier dying and giving his body up to Military for research then being resurrected would make for an interesting foil for Tony although wouldve preferred if Guy Pearce was Mall/Aldrich combo...
marknjoanna - 5/16/2012, 12:15 PM
i think its going to kill ultron (the best suit guy or no guy) before we even get to him.

oops sorry rdj/ironnman i forgot about your suit my bad.
