Marky Stark? Wahlberg Says He'd Like To Take Over From RDJ As IRON MAN

Mark Wahlberg will appear in the next Transformers movie, but that aside he has yet to put his stamp on a comic book or superhero flick. Does he have any interest? Well, he'd be up for stepping into Robert Downey Jr.'s shoes as Iron Man anyway!

Ol' Marky Mark really doesn't seem too keen on comic book movies. In the following video interview with Yahoo, the Ted actor says that he always prefers to play "real people" and that's why he reckons he has never been asked about possibility playing a superhero. But, he does admit to liking The Avengers, and apparently wouldn't mind taking a stab at Iron Man when Robert Downey Jr. eventually hangs up the helmet. Plus, did you know he was up for the role of Robin in Batman Forever?

“I would like to take over the ‘Iron Man’ franchise for Robert Downey, [but] it’s one of those things where I kind of like playing real people, [so] I’ve never been asked. Once I was kind of being talked about for the Robin role in ‘Batman [Forever] -- somebody dodged a bullet!”

I fkn love Mark, and would like to see him in Marvel, but probably not as Stark.
TheFascinatingMan - 8/14/2013, 8:18 AM

gulducati - 8/14/2013, 8:18 AM

Mrsinister - 8/14/2013, 8:21 AM

CapFanLex005 - 8/14/2013, 8:21 AM

thewonderer - 8/14/2013, 8:26 AM
Look at the sheep here.

EVERYONE said no to RDJ too before he got the role.

Most great castings are the ones we don't expect to be good. Wahlberg can be a good actor if he feels like it.

Why not? He probably won't be as greedy and full of himself as RDJ is now.
lntrn8 - 8/14/2013, 8:27 AM
agreed . . .

Tronify RDJ forever!

RDJ as Iron Man in perpetua . . . like Tupac making records long after his death ;>

JettJagguarrr - 8/14/2013, 8:27 AM
No to Tony Stark.....But 2 Guns was awesome.
devil - 8/14/2013, 8:29 AM
he can play egghead in ant-man
GodzillaKart - 8/14/2013, 8:30 AM
Goggles - 8/14/2013, 8:30 AM

I'd be down for this.
LEVITIKUZ - 8/14/2013, 8:32 AM
RDJ to Iron Man doesn't deserved to be compared to Pac.

Ledger's Joker? Yes. Reeve's Superman? Yes. Jackman's Wolverine? Yes.

But not RDJ's Iron Man.

gambgel - 8/14/2013, 8:33 AM
"Avengers was good entertaining kids"

we all know that was Marvel main intention after all
JayJayCAW - 8/14/2013, 8:33 AM
......ask me that 4 or 5 years ago and I would have slapped you in the face and told you to lock yourself in your room......

today though....after seeing quite a few really good performances from him.....sure lol why the hell not
ManCalledSting - 8/14/2013, 8:34 AM
Tupac sucked.
LEVITIKUZ - 8/14/2013, 8:36 AM
I feel a disturbance in the force.

*cocks shotgun*

Who says Tupac sucks?
Boyle360 - 8/14/2013, 8:41 AM
I don't think so.
Grayson7954 - 8/14/2013, 8:42 AM
guy gardner for sure
Oliver2ueen - 8/14/2013, 8:44 AM
If he does a live performance of Good Vibrations, he can play any character he effin' wants and I'd be fine with it.
AvatarAang - 8/14/2013, 8:45 AM
@Truebeliever2 GIF of the day goes to you, good sir.

Marky Mark as Tony Stark would be such a boner kill
SpectacularJoShFest - 8/14/2013, 8:46 AM
Yeah...I like this idea....but if anything I'd like to see him playing Iron Man in a would be too drastic going from RDJ to Wahlberg.
fortycals - 8/14/2013, 8:47 AM
I'm not even a marky mark hater, but I still say no. Maybe if he could get rid of his accent, though. Let him play booster gold j/k
FantasticSpidey - 8/14/2013, 8:48 AM
He is best in his roles from The Departed, The Other Guys, and I Heart Huckabees. I can't really think of a role for him to play... except maybe he would be good as the voice of Rocket Raccoon.

Xandera - 8/14/2013, 8:49 AM
As much as I like Marky Mark, I don't want to see The Avengers singing Good Vibrations...
ABLEE337 - 8/14/2013, 8:49 AM

Wow, I agree with you there, I think he would make a great Guy Gardner.
MercwithMouth - 8/14/2013, 8:50 AM
Wow, no, please, no...

I like Mark Wahlberg, I actually think he's a damn fine actor. But I honestly don't think he can pull off the intelligence that Stark requires.

Strangely, I agree with HydraBob, Franco I think would be a great Stark.

Wahlberg could play some good villians though, but I think better suited to the Amazing Spiderman Universe, seems like a better fit.
marvel72 - 8/14/2013, 8:50 AM
f*ck off wahlberg.
MercwithMouth - 8/14/2013, 8:51 AM
Be good as the Shocker!

BlackestNight - 8/14/2013, 8:53 AM
Someone hit the nail in the head with Booster Gold.

I like Mark because he is a great actor who can hold his own in a serious role as well as a comedic role.
SageMode - 8/14/2013, 8:53 AM
You'll have no good vibrations with that Marky Mark. In ya dreams.

And I can't believe this guy is an Academy Award nominee and his brother is actually a great actor and gets no recognition for it. Smh.
