Marvel To Release Two Versions Of IRON MAN 3

Marvel To Release Two Versions Of IRON MAN 3

It seems fans will have an extra version of Marvel's upcoming Iron Man threequel to track down as the studio plan to release a "China only" cut of the film, which might contain some significantly different elements. Read on for the statement in full..

When Iron Man 3 is released in China on May 3rd, they'll be seeing a different version of the movie. We don't know just HOW different, but the statement below reveals that the Chinese cut will feature an appearance by the lovely Fan Bingbing (who will also play Blink in X-Men: DOFP) and some "specially prepared" bonus footage.

Marvel Studios and DMG announced that a Chinese version of Iron Man 3 will be released in China on a date to be announced in the near future. DMG, a Chinese media and entertainment company, collaborated with Marvel Studios on the Chinese elements in the film, and is marketing and distributing the film in China. While Marvel and DMG have decided not to apply for co-production status in China, the film includes significant Chinese elements. Renowned Chinese actor Wang Xueqi will appear in both the studio’s Chinese version of the film and in its international and domestic US version. Both versions of the film include Iron Man 3 footage filmed in Beijing in December. The Chinese version of the film will also feature a special appearance of China’s top actress, Fan Bingbing, and will offer specially prepared bonus footage made exclusively for the Chinese audience. Marvel Studios’ experience working on this film with Fan Bingbing and Wang Xueqi and in shooting in China has been very positive and has created a springboard for future collaboration with China’s talented stars and its growing film and television industry. The Iron Man cast and filmmakers look forward to bringing Iron Man back to China.

I wouldn't expect any particularly big changes plot wise, just a few extra scenes of Stark doing stuff in China most likely; but you never know. It should be interesting when we can eventually compare both versions.

Do they think that by kissing so much Chinese ass they're gonna decide to drop the huge debt we owe them or something?
HipsterAngelusNY - 3/29/2013, 10:48 AM
if the chinese release has more footage than its only fair that they release it in US WHY R THEY sucking off the chinese so much?
Emjeed - 3/29/2013, 10:51 AM
LOL.. This is REALLY becoming like a comic book..or it could just be something small like that scene in POTC where in one version they say "Welcome to Singapore" and in the Asian version it says something else
spidey1994 - 3/29/2013, 10:55 AM
Jinx? She's actually playing Blink in Days of Future Past.
RorMachine - 3/29/2013, 10:57 AM

third3ye - 3/29/2013, 11:02 AM
New ending in Chinese version - Jet Li shows up and whups IM's ass, the Chinese government takes all the suits and builds a new Red Army comprised of Iron Men, they defeat the Avengers and take over the world, then defeat the GotG and Thanos and take over the universe. The End.
Tempo - 3/29/2013, 11:07 AM
Disney politics+China Goverment = 2 version of the movie, pro chinese propaganda and without propaganda for the rest of the world, pathetic.
INSTANTJUSTICE - 3/29/2013, 11:11 AM

Money usurps politics everytime.

A2ron - 3/29/2013, 11:12 AM
I wouldn't be too worried. Everyone is going to find out what the bonus scenes are from people who see it in China. Plus there will be plenty of articles on it later.
bobevanz - 3/29/2013, 11:12 AM
This isn't a big deal ppl cool your jets. This film shall rock!
Tempo - 3/29/2013, 11:14 AM
Watch this...

CaptainAmerica31 - 3/29/2013, 11:15 AM
[frick]ing communist, the reason this makes me mad is they're using propaganda in the film and censoring the american one. Probably cutting out the iron patriot as well lol
CaptainAmerica31 - 3/29/2013, 11:20 AM
@Tempo lol they're communist govt. will collapse by the time they take over the film industry
TheGlove - 3/29/2013, 11:25 AM
The Chinese will rule the world!!!!!
Tempo - 3/29/2013, 11:26 AM
I hate the China Government:communist,assassin,dictatorial.
exe - 3/29/2013, 11:26 AM
Can they release another version of Iron Man 2? That one sucked.
DrDoom - 3/29/2013, 11:31 AM
It doesn't bother me that they're releasing additional footage for a Chinese audience. What bothers me is that WE'RE not getting it. What's wrong, Marvel? Don't think we can handle some Chinese stuff in our movie? Why does it need to get cut in the domestic release?
TheMalcontent - 3/29/2013, 11:32 AM
Yes they will have a special Chinese communist government approved version.

They can't have anything in their films that contradict their state propaganda.
CaptainAmerica31 - 3/29/2013, 11:33 AM
Oh trust me @suspense there is a storm brewing, example: Chiense guy seeking refuge at the American embassy. There has to be some sort of uprising.

There is a storm coming Mr.Lee
Mixedsuperman - 3/29/2013, 11:36 AM
Fan Bing Bing....Lol
TheMalcontent - 3/29/2013, 11:37 AM
@DrDoom It has nothing to do with quality. China edits almost every international film before releasing in their county to make sure that it does not contradict their propaganda.

It is about information and entertainment control. China is a communist controlled government.
95 - 3/29/2013, 11:37 AM
Good, I don't care to see the Chinese propaganda scenes. It's probably an alternate version of his Extremis injection or whatever.
BboiBlack - 3/29/2013, 11:44 AM
This site ran a rant piece about Micheal Bay using china in TF 4 as a money grab that won't take the opportunity to expose the evil politics of that country.

Ramiel - 3/29/2013, 11:48 AM
Why are they kissing ass to a Communist country? Screw that country.
CaptainAmerica31 - 3/29/2013, 11:58 AM
North Korea is ready to strike lol
IgnurRant - 3/29/2013, 11:59 AM
Is there a comic book movie version where the rings are magic or alien tech?
marantaz - 3/29/2013, 12:09 PM
This is disappointing. Marvel has opened the door to allowing themselves to submit to government censorship in return for government funding. As this article says, what is done to IM3 will be minor, insignificant to the story and will appear harmless. But the next time, and every time after that, getting funds from China will result in a greater exertion of influence by the government there. Just as twitter has accepted Russia's demands to censor it, and Facebook has as well. Once the door is open, our own government will begin to do the same in its funding of the arts. Marvel has submitted to eventually being a government propaganda tool, as many studios have or soon will. I saw this coming when they bent over to be politically correct on how the mandarin is portrayed and dropped to their knees for the funding and filming access in china.
oh well...maybe North Korea can put all back the way it ought to be.
CaptainAmerica31 - 3/29/2013, 12:16 PM
I wouldn't call it evil politics. Just communism lol, they censor anything they don't like. For example if I went to china and wave a sign saying I hated the Chinese government I would be arrested. It's just the form of government
CaptainAmerica31 - 3/29/2013, 12:18 PM
Oh yea not to mention mandarin isn't Chiense I wonder why......
TheAbomination - 3/29/2013, 12:34 PM
Ric - 3/29/2013, 12:41 PM
WTF? only reason I can think of is that they want to increase the box office numbers in china!
TheManFromMars - 3/29/2013, 12:54 PM
The aditional scenes better be included on the DVD/Blu-Ray!

It's bad enough that the Theatrical Version of The Avengers here in Brazil didn't include neither the Shawarma scene NOR the Helicarrier reveal scene!
JacksonVegaIII - 3/29/2013, 12:56 PM
Its the Jackie Chan cameo. Gotta please our new overlords
marantaz - 3/29/2013, 1:06 PM
Not china hate, wife is Chinese. Communist, big government hate, you bet.
gulducati - 3/29/2013, 1:08 PM
They already did this in Iron Man 2. The scene you all saw in the donut shop? In the Canadian version, it took place in a Tim Hortens and he was drinking a double double.
NoAssemblyReqd - 3/29/2013, 1:27 PM
To promote their own film industry, China only allows a relatively small number or foreign films to be exhibited per year. So, it's no surprise that some U.S. movies would throw in some Chinese elements into their films, to better their chances of exhibition. This is the first time I've heard of a China-only version of a US film, however.
TheMalcontent - 3/29/2013, 1:38 PM
@sKeemAn I don't see any "China hate".

I do see hate for Communism, censorship, propaganda etc.

I guess for people like you freedom of speech is not important and tyrannical government oppression is okay.

For some reason I'm seeing a lot of Communist synopsizing Marxist on here. I guess freedom and free people is not cool anymore?
