IRON MAN 3 MARVEL SHOWCASE - Recap/Description
I went to the Iron Man 3 Marvel Showcase in London tonight. We were gifted with footage from Thor 2, Captain America 2, Guardians of The Galaxy and the first 10 minutes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
So it was one of the hottest days in London, not the best time to be cramped together in the tube. Along with sprinting to the Disney offices, it wasn’t the most pleasant experience. Luckily waiting for us were two cold beers. We were lead into the Auditorium and sat back and relaxed.
First of all they showed off the Agent Carter Marvel One-Shot, which Carries on a year after Captain America. Most of the stuff you’ve seen in the clips, but it’s definitely the funniest and best Marvel One-Shot yet, bringing back the charm of the 40’s setting.
After showing off a few special features and a gag reel we were shown a scene from Thor 2 followed by a lengthy trailer. There was a real Game of Thrones/Lord of The Rings vibe, yet still feeling a lot like a Thor movie. A big stone giant strides up to Thor before letting out some sort of roar, in with Thor replies with “I accept your surrender!” all of the warriors on the battle ground laugh. A lot of the footage we had already seen in the officially release trailers, apart from a clip of Loki betraying Thor and kicking him to the ground.
We were then given a scene and a lengthy trailer for Captain America 2. It was the elevator scene. Steve Rogers waits in an elevator as more and more men start to slowly make their way. Once it is full Cap says “Before we start, does anyone want to get off?” And so begins the close combat! Crossbones gets out some Tasers and starts stunning Cap as each man grabs him, as he takes each man down with small punches and kicks in the enclosed space. A man gets a magnet out of his briefcase and attaches it to Caps hand. Cap almost manages to fight the magnetic force, but eventually reduced to kicking and punching with his left hand. After taking out most the guys it’s just Cap and Crossbones left. Crossbones says to Cap “This is nothing personal” while he Taser’s Cap multiple times, Cap replies with “It kinda feels personal” before pulling the Magnet away from the metal and finishing Crossbones. He kicks up his shield and it attaches to the magnet on his wrist. He walks out. The trailer had a lot of quick shots, but the most noticeable parts were Falcon jumping off a building and then while in the air huge wings come from his back and he glides away, the Helicarrier crashing into the sea and a metallic hand picking up Captain America’s shield right at the end… to reveal Winter Soldier with smudged black paint around his eyes.
Then it was the Guardians of The Galaxy footage… a man walks into an alien temple, walking up to some sort of stone monument with a spherical item on top. It is revealed to be Peter Quill. He picks up the item and turns around to find three armed men (I assume Nova corps). One of them asks “WHAT IS YOUR NAME?” Peter Quill replies with “….Star-Lord…” the officer asks “Who?” Quill replies with “Come on… Sta-oh, nevermind”. We are then introduced to each character as they are lined up. It was the same footage from Comic Con, Rocket Raccoon standing on Groot’s shoulders as he fires his gun, Peter Quill with his top off looking stacked, and eventually a shot with all of them lined up together. We see John C Reilly stating what Quill was arrested for. Quill slowly pretends to rotate a handle while his middle finger comes up. He stares at the middle fingers with a shocked expression and says “Oh… I’m sorry… I didn’t know how this machine worked”.
Finally we watched the first 10 minutes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. From what we saw it seemed to be extremely promising. There were nice ties to the MCU, the special effects were EXTREMELY impressive for a TV Show and the humour was satisfying; “technically… I don’t think Thor is a God” Maria Hill: “Have you been next to his arms?... He’s a God”. If you’re a fan of Whedon’s TV shows you’ll LOVE Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. We didn’t see anything on how Coulson came back, but his entrance was heroic… and hilarious.
I unfortunately can’t go into more detail because I was too busy getting my mind blown. But from what I saw, Phase Two looks far from a disappointment, with both Thor 2 and Cap 2 looking extremely better than the first instalments.
