Iron Man 3 is probably the best script I've read in five years, which is so funny. I mean, things have come so full circle that a genre superhero movie can actually be the most artistic bit of writing I read. But I think The Avengers is something a lot of the fans are really looking forward to, so I'm excited about that. The third Iron Man to me is an opportunity to go back to the kind of storytelling and character exploration that made the first one good

Iron Man 3 is expected to begin principal photography early next year based in Wilmington, North Carolina. And With Don Cheadle and Gwyneth Paltrow reprising their roles respectively, the Shane Black-directed threequel releases May 3, 2013!

Marvel's The Avengers is the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner with Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston, directed by Joss Whedon, Marvel's The Avengers will be released May 4, 2012.

I hope he's right, Iron Man 2 was an immense disappointment for me. So far, it's the only one of the MCU films that I don't like, let alone love.
SageMode - 12/7/2011, 1:14 PM
That guy sucks at giving interviews
kylum616 - 12/7/2011, 1:15 PM
i loved im1 heack i enjoyed im2 as well cant wait for this and THE AVENGERS
SageMode - 12/7/2011, 1:17 PM
Well, I think RDJ is saying that because he's not the main character. Being as how RDJ tried to push or talk Whedon for Iron Man to be in the fore-front of the movie at the beginning.

The Avengers are gonna ROCK!!!!!!!!!!! Just wait and see.
Coachella - 12/7/2011, 1:25 PM
I hope hes right because ironman 2 was kind of a letdown.
ISleepNow - 12/7/2011, 1:26 PM
Oh Thank God something Positive.. Although the way Shane was wussin out about 'The Mandarin' still leaves me apprehensive
spiderneil - 12/7/2011, 1:27 PM
best in five years?

uh-oh...should we be worried about the avengers?
Mechagino - 12/7/2011, 1:27 PM
Mandarin or bust.
joeker - 12/7/2011, 1:29 PM
oooohh Mr RDJ well la dee daa good for you how about you play a character that isnt neurotic

lol seriously tho im sure its good
BillyBatson1000 - 12/7/2011, 1:32 PM
Iron Man 2 was dreadful. Whiplash was a genius one minute and a cretin the next. There was no build up to a grand finale - just a cop-out, unimaginative three way fight between 3 poorly rendered CG 'characters'. YAWN. We deserve better than this.

superotherside - 12/7/2011, 1:42 PM
It's OFFICIAL Iron Man him self approves of this.

kurekurcubic - 12/7/2011, 1:45 PM
i cant believe that someone asked this guy finally about yucatan.
that can be a new raiders of the ark film
TheMarmoset - 12/7/2011, 1:45 PM
Here it comes from CBM posters. Iron Man 2 is a bad movie even though it was a critical and financial success and better than most summer blockbusters.....
sexfoodcomics - 12/7/2011, 1:54 PM
Shane black is awesome. This movie will rock if Marvel let's Shane do what he wants. marvel is starting to scare me a little and seem to be getting a bit controlling
devil - 12/7/2011, 1:55 PM
i think robert downey jr is playing ironman for the last time in ironman 3
joeker - 12/7/2011, 1:56 PM
Terrance Howard for War Machine!!
sexfoodcomics - 12/7/2011, 1:56 PM
You can't make a comparison between iron man 3 and Avengers. Iron man 3 is about a single character, basically a character study, Avengers is an essemble movie. I honk that's what he is trying to say.
DCMarvelFreshman - 12/7/2011, 2:01 PM
I assume RDJ is excluding The Avengers because big portions of the script were written as production was underway. And Shane Black clearly stated he wanted the script right, before going into production, unlike IM2.
headlopper - 12/7/2011, 2:02 PM
"...the genre of super hero movie could be the most -wait for it- ARTISTIC-!", WHAT!?

He's my new favorite actor!
PapaEmeritus - 12/7/2011, 2:02 PM
Cool! But not so difficult beating up IM II...
mctrinket - 12/7/2011, 2:05 PM

My standards are now hirer. Why doesn't anyone say that its the worst movie they ever been apart of, so when i see it, i'd be completely blown away
marvel72 - 12/7/2011, 2:11 PM
if its as good as the first iron man i'd be pleased but i can't see it.
Kamdan - 12/7/2011, 2:18 PM
Since when does Downey need a script?
Minghagz - 12/7/2011, 2:24 PM
Maybe he's bitter because he had to share the stage on the Avengers.
NeoBaggins - 12/7/2011, 2:37 PM
He's running typical fluff game. Its the best script hes read in five years and the film will be more like the best Iron Man film thus far. Yeah, we know.

He thinks it's better than Avengers. Interesting.
BmanHall - 12/7/2011, 2:38 PM
He approves. I approve. Bring on Iron Man III!
MassExecutions - 12/7/2011, 2:39 PM
Of course he thinks its better then Avengers! Iron Man III will feature 10 minutes more screen time for him than Avengers will!
SonOfStarKiller - 12/7/2011, 2:40 PM
I just don't get all the hate for Iron Man 2. Was it perfect? No, it wasn't. Not to many movies (comic book or otherwise) are perfect. It was no where near the letdown that was Spider-Man 3 or X-Men United. The acting was great, the action scenes were well executed, and it tied in well with the upcoming Avengers Movie. A lot of people on here have complained that SHIELD was to heavily involved with the story. Correct me if I'm wrong but SHIELD plays a big part of Tony Starks life in the comic books, so why not in the movies. Also SHIELD played a huge part in THOR, but I guess that was ok with everyone. After watching THOR & CAPTAIN AMERICA Iron Man 2 seemed to be an even better movie than even I though it originally was. Like I said, I just don't get it.
batmanrises - 12/7/2011, 2:46 PM
Translation: This script gives me more facetime and I do lots of things that make me look cool and awesome in it.

RDJ is awesome.
MercMatt - 12/7/2011, 2:46 PM
I want the Foom and Mandarin. Only other option I would be on board with, would be maybe Madam Masque??? We shall see!
SotNatt - 12/7/2011, 2:56 PM
It's always interesting to watch a Robert Downey Jr. interview, because the person giving the interview is never sharp enough or aware enough to get that RDJ is never really taking the whole thing seriously.

Like, he's always looking for an opening to play around with what's being talked about about, but the interviewers are so straight-laced and trying to keep it question-centric that the opportunities are missed.

Then, of course, half of the questions are just mind-bogglingly retarded, and RDJ gets that.

I thoroughly enjoyed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (the only Shane Black work I've ever seen), but I trust that he understands RDJ's strengths and will play off that nicely, if not entirely solid on the source material.

As for the best script written for Iron Man, yeah, Avengers doesn't count because that's an ensemble piece with other leading characters at the helm of the project as well.

Iron-Man is about the trials and growth of one character, Tony Stark, which is why it can be considered (if that's even true) the best of the Iron-Man films.

Also, IT'S A BOY!
Spidey91 - 12/7/2011, 2:57 PM
f*ck the haters! RDJ is awesome!
and so will be IM3
MarkV - 12/7/2011, 3:03 PM
Gusto always makes me laugh.
Supes17 - 12/7/2011, 3:06 PM
So he's saying IM3>Avengers?

Cool Story Bro
damage control for IM2 lol
NiteSoul69 - 12/7/2011, 3:11 PM
RDJ is awesome, one of my favorite actors, looking forward to sherlock holmes IM3, but really looking forward to avengers the most.
NeoBaggins - 12/7/2011, 3:12 PM
RDJ: Um, which one does everyone like?

Int: The first one.

RDJ: Yeah. It's gonna be like the first one. Matter of fact, its the best [frick]ing script in the world. Sherlock Holmes.
SotNatt - 12/7/2011, 3:16 PM
Okay, so I'm getting around to watching the second vid, yeah?

The question is posed, Iron Man vs. Sherlock Holmes: who would win?

RDJ says "Well, if Tony got drunk, he wouldn't stand a chance."

To which I counter, "Well, if Sherlock got completely stoned, high as a f*cking kite, he wouldn't stand a chance either....

....or WOULD he?"

Regardless, I think RDJ does very well playing characters with addictive personalities. I guess they just speak to him, for some strange, IRRELEVANT reason...

@Spidey91 Yeah, I really don't understand the haters. Robert Downey Jr. is the last of a dying breed of truly talented people in Hollywood. I include Neil Patrick Harris and Hugh Jackman among those few as well.
NeoBaggins - 12/7/2011, 3:33 PM
I love how the interview guy is like, [frick] your Iron Man/Avengers plug. Are you trying to record music again?

Strange. With grey stubble, he looks younger here than he does as Stark. How is that possible?
