New DREDD Clip Featuring Olivia Thirlby & Karl Urban

In this new clip from Dredd 3D Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie, explains to Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) her ambitions as they enter the dangerous Peach Trees block.

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The film opens in 3D September 21st.

Is it just me or does 'dredd' seem a bit toned, casual?
AlexDeLarge87 - 9/3/2012, 1:05 PM

Trust me, this film goes places other comic films don't go, not even those crap Punisher films. It's a truly morally ambiguous film and in a good way.
lokibane2012 - 9/3/2012, 2:19 PM
i hope this doesn't disappoint. because it looks REALLY badass.

weird realy judge anderson was PSI that was why she didnt wear a helmet she could make you forget her.
so in this she is a rookie ? only a minor error realy.
ManOfKrypton - 9/3/2012, 2:38 PM
Now this is the dredd film I've been waiting for!

inky: "weird realy judge anderson was PSI that was why she didnt wear a helmet she could make you forget her.

Why is this an error? In the film she's a rookie PSI-Judge and since she eventually becomes a Judge she had to be a rookie at some stage.
ManofSteel23 - 9/3/2012, 3:43 PM
his helmet still looks too big
dreddhead123 - 9/3/2012, 4:42 PM
How come no-one's mentioned the amazing scale of the block floor. Looks incredible for a small-ish budget film. Wow.

Instantjustice, what would you give Dredd 3D out of 10?

As for Anderson not wearing a helmet, she rarely wears one in her stories. 99 percent of the time she is without a helmet because it affects her psychic powers. Imagine a car radio's analogue signal not working when a car goes in a tunnel, this is the same if Anderson wears a helmet. Her psi signals are blocked out.
INSTANTJUSTICE - 9/3/2012, 5:05 PM
8 out of 10 for a general film

10 out of 10 for a Judge Dredd film cos only one exists.
dreddhead123 - 9/3/2012, 5:28 PM
Hmm... interesting.

Why does his voice change from his introductory line in that clip to when he says "admirable"?
Bane2099 - 9/3/2012, 9:03 PM

I noticed that as well, he went from regular Karl urban voice to Dredd voice.

Hope thats not a mistake thats gonna be in the actual film.
Ranger14 - 9/3/2012, 10:04 PM
Glad it wasn't just me that heard that. It will really suck if he changes his voice that dramatically a la Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne and Batman. I don't have any challenge with Bale's voice in the Nolan's films as it was a cover for him, but Dredd's voice should always be Dredd's voice being he has the helmet on and secret identity is not an issue.
jondoe297 - 9/3/2012, 10:16 PM
@Grif what's it like to look at the world a$$ backwards
Pendaghast - 9/4/2012, 2:09 AM
how the [frick] do you know what dredds voice sounds like??? he is from a comic? moaning [frick]ers
GetsugaTensho22 - 9/4/2012, 4:14 AM
I Think the "to a block like this?" line was said by somebody else. To avoid spoilers and shit, i guess the mixed it up in the clip for public release, or maybe even cut it from teh film entirely. Whatever the case, it's not his voice when he says it.
