New DREDD Featurette Once Again Focuses On The Comic's Origins

I'll tell you what, Dredd had better sell like hotcakes when the film is released on Blu-ray and DVD January 8, or that will most likely be the last time I see a live-action version of the character in my lifetime.

Thanks to Cinema Blend we have a new Dredd featurette to enjoy. As for the film, it was pretty darn good, but I won't praise it as fantastic like some people do. It's a nice action movie, that looks more expensive that it's paltry budget would have you believe. There are some amazingly beautiful visuals that would make an indie film-fanatic pop wood. I do encourage anyone that hasn't seen it to do so, and if you have a few dollars to spend and want more Dredd in the future I urge you to purchase a copy of the DVD. Consider the DVD a kickstarter for the sequel.

The future America is an irradiated wasteland. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

You do know that Percy Jackson made over $226 million at the worldwide box-office.

Domestic: $88,768,303
Foreign: $137,728,906

Dredd made $36 million worldwide.

Dredd is seriously underrated, just like Tron in my opinion

well ghost rider had a sequel, and even stupid movies like leprechaun and trolls had sequels so i think judge dredd deserves a sequel

This This film wasn't THAT great. I'd barely callit a good movie; it was very formulaic and run-of-the-mill, and the climax was rather anti-climactic, for that matter.

Better than the Stallone version for certain, but that's not saying much.

Awesome film! I'm hoping Judge Death is in the sequel.

Hopefully this movie can pull a Kick Ass. KA2 wasnt greenlit until after the massive DVD sales. So comic nerds unite, buy the dvd/BR. We need to support the adult themed flicks extra hard, to show that there is a market for them. Dont just look at it as saving Dredd, look at it as investing in all adult theme CBM's. You want more punisher, a good Dare devil, a good Ghostrider, a hard R deadpool, you should buy Dredd today.
