The misfire of Dredd in theaters is a little baffling but nevertheless, the film is hitting dvd and blu-ray on January 8th. Don't make the same mistake twice, this is a comic book movie that you definitely want to check out.
Lionsgate have announced the full Blu-Ray specs for this year's 2000AD comic book adaptation Dredd 3D, which hits home video at the beginning of 2013. Hit the jump for the studio's press release revealing the full details of the Blu-Ray release.
Prime Focus World has uploaded four VFX breakdown videos that show how they brought Mega-City One to life and how the super slow-motion 3D sequences were constructed. Also of note, the pre-visuals reveal that Ma-Ma was envisioned a bit bigger.
After a disappointing $6.3 million opening at the North American box office back in September, DREDD 3D has finally ended it's theatrical run and the domestic total for the critically acclaimed reboot confirms that it had one of the worst wide releases of the year.
Even though "Dredd 3D" has been in theaters for several weeks I may have have to include a spoiler warning based on box office attendance. If you don't mind being spoiled come check out the digital wizardy that transformed South Africa into Mega-City 1.
Possibly one of the best comic book films/B-list action films ever made, Dredd 3D is a fantastic action spectacle, showing that action for the sake of action can indeed work when supported by a self-aware script, great special effects, a smart director, wonderful performances, and impressive writing, while also going beyond the standards of a B-rated movie by including a nice character arc and a hero who is so well defined he doesn't really need one to carry the film.
