Kevin Feige's Advice On A Live-Action JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie

Kevin Feige's Advice On A Live-Action JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie

With the massive success of The Avengers under his belt, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked what advice he would give to Warner Bros. on their planned adaptation of DC Comics' Justice League.

By all accounts, a Justice League film depends on the success of Man of Steel. Based on what's been revealed from the film thus far that looks to be all but guaranteed, fan excitement is high and the buzz is quickly approaching a deafening level. When interviewed by Collider, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked what advice he would give to Warner Bros. regarding their Justice League plans. Said Feige----

"I don’t know. I’m sure they have smart people over there who have a plan and know what they’re doing. Man of Steel looks like it’s going to be awesome and obviously Dark Knight is awesome. I don’t know. It’s what I say all the time and have said over the years, which is, have confidence in the characters, believe in the source material, don’t be afraid to stay true to all of the elements of the characters no matter how seemingly silly or crazy they are. I don’t know, I think the Marvel characters have a bit of a leg up for all the reasons that Marvel fans are aware of in terms of the emotional complexity of the characters and the flawed nature of the characters. Those are obviously the elements we want to accentuate amongst all the action."

"I think there have been a lot of great DC stories and there are a lot of great DC characters, and if they focus on those things the audience will be interested. It was a very unique model that we were lucky enough to be able to do – introducing each individual hero before introducing The Avengers. That, to me, is what was always interesting about The Avengers. The Avengers are not The Guardians of the Galaxy, are not The Dirty Dozen, where you spend a movie introducing each character and putting them together for the first time. The Avengers was cool because they were preexisting characters that teamed up for a big event. I think that’s why Justice League was cool, Justice League was first. That’s what they did first in comic form."

Finishing off how we began, if Man of Steel is a box office hit Zack Snyder will be asked to direct a Justice League film. No definitive word on who will pen the script but scuttlebutt says the draft Will Beall penned back in 2012 is out and David S. Goyer will cook up something new. There's also a plethora of rumors concerning Man of Steel cameos and easter eggs roaming across the interweb that have congealed to form a blazing neon sign that points to an official announcement for a Justice League film coming sooner rather than later. Should WB look to the words of Feige above or should they try something different? While Feige kept his response pretty vague, we know for certain that everything for Marvel starts with their yearly retreats by Feige and a few producers and writers where they basically rent a house and bounce ideas of each other for a week or two. Should WB try to do something similar and create their own inner circle? Who should be inside it - Snyder, Goyer, Nolan, Timm? Sound off in the usual spot below.

You, uh, started off mid-way through a word that I assume is 'smart'. And seems like it's mid-way through a quote, too
SnapperCarr - 5/6/2013, 8:09 PM
There are some grammar errors, its like the article is cut off a bit.
nowtheresaBATman - 5/6/2013, 8:11 PM
you bet Man of Steel's gonna be awesome.
Nick56 - 5/6/2013, 8:13 PM
"believe in the source material, don’t be afraid to stay true to all of the elements of the characters" Sure mr.feige...*cough* Mandarin *cough*
MarkJulian - 5/6/2013, 8:14 PM
When news hits an article isn't finished until it hits the front page guys.
ALegendaryPanda - 5/6/2013, 8:16 PM
"Believe in the source material" LOL
RextheKing - 5/6/2013, 8:20 PM
Not being afraid of the source material, is not saying, don't stray from it, but to embrace element of certain characters without fear that people will find it ridiculous. He's saying, don't completely stray from the source material, not don't stray from the source material, so don't bring up the "well that explains the Mandarin" bullshit.
SnapperCarr - 5/6/2013, 8:22 PM
@MarkJulian Thanks for the info, I hope to see Justice League on the big screen eventually!
JayJayCAW - 5/6/2013, 8:24 PM
ok I guess I'm going to defend a Marvel guy now....WHATS GOING ON ITS THE TWILIGHT ZONE lol.

Yes they royally screwed up the Mandarin, but for the most part they got alot of the other characters right, or found a really interesting way to blend different universe versions into one.

I like his advice for Justice League, maybe DC/WB will follow suit and like how Marvel did it, have certain characters have cameo appearances in others movies so they wont have to make an out right origin film for them like Black Widow and Hawkeye, then maybe after the Justice League who ever will fill those character spots can get their own film.....probably going to be Wonder Woman and Flash :S

"... have confidence in the characters, believe in the source material, don’t be afraid to stay true to all of the elements of the characters no matter how seemingly silly or crazy they are."

LOLOLOL. Yeah, right.
Tony93 - 5/6/2013, 8:25 PM
source material? lmao
lapress - 5/6/2013, 8:31 PM
That's good advice.
Reasonnnn - 5/6/2013, 8:32 PM
Mandarin is a pretty dumb character to begin with. IM ALL IN ON KEVIN FEIGE!

FightAs0ne - 5/6/2013, 8:33 PM
Am I the only one that didn't have any problem with what happened in IM3, that I didn't think it was as horrible or as shit-tastic as people claim it to be? That twist was great and came out of no where, it did not take away from how enjoyable that movie was or the performances Ben Kingsley or RDJ gave.
TheDARKestKNIGHT - 5/6/2013, 8:33 PM
Why doesn't he just cuz the fuzz in the front of his head? Is that a joke?
Wingding - 5/6/2013, 8:34 PM
I need justice league to be good
seyrie - 5/6/2013, 8:35 PM
lol..comic fans are so because of this one Mandarin twist, we're all going to forget that he's responsible for six other movies that have nailed down the characters down pat and introduced a bunch of b and c-list characters to a worldwide audience..gtfoh with that nonsense. Feige has done more for CBM's than we can ever thank him for.
KnobGoblin - 5/6/2013, 8:35 PM
"It’s what I say all the time and have said over the years, which is, have confidence in the characters, believe in the source material, don’t be afraid to stay true to all of the elements of the characters no matter how seemingly silly or crazy they are."

You mean like The Mandarin?
FirstAvenger - 5/6/2013, 8:36 PM
Source material included Thor's helmet right?
0bstreperous - 5/6/2013, 8:36 PM
This guys smart

And we wouldn't know who he was if MCU sucked so kudos

Liken it to Bruce timm man with the plan
BlackHulk - 5/6/2013, 8:37 PM
Feige should follow his own advice.
JoeMomma29 - 5/6/2013, 8:37 PM
@ MarvelPsycho

What I really agree with your comments!! Anyways at this point we can only pray for a Justice League movie!!! It sucks that it all rests on MOS.
113 - 5/6/2013, 8:39 PM
GeekyCheekyChic - 5/6/2013, 8:40 PM
good advice. MOS in a month!!
GizmoEl - 5/6/2013, 8:40 PM
yeah focus on one twist that they decided to make (which worked out wonderfully critically aside from fanboys) and ignore the fact that they got iron man, captain america, thor, loki, hulk, hawkeye, black widow, bucky, red skull, iron monger, nick fury, maria hill, odin, heimdal, sif, jane, pepper, peggy, happy, rhodey, yinsen, fandral, volstagg, hogun, and SHIELD and the entire tone of these characters freaking perfectly.

Quit overreacting
Supes17 - 5/6/2013, 8:41 PM
Thor's Helmet?
FirstAvenger - 5/6/2013, 8:41 PM
Good advice. Just DON'T BLOW IT DC!!!
Supes17 - 5/6/2013, 8:41 PM
Supes17 - 5/6/2013, 8:42 PM
If WB [frick]s this up they're done in my book
Tevii - 5/6/2013, 8:42 PM
"believe in the source material, don’t be afraid to stay true to all of the elements of the characters no matter how seemingly silly or crazy they are."

SO TRUE... even though they messed up Mandarin, at least for the most part Marvel stays true to the source. WB doesnt ever stick to the source, and quite frankly they act embarrassed of their properties. So much in fact they never even use their names. Arrow, the hood, the blur, etc. they dont even say the name Superman in the MoS trailer. they have an "audio problem" when lois says it.

they have ZERO faith in characters that have proven to withstand the test of time... i think thats very unfortunate.
FirstAvenger - 5/6/2013, 8:43 PM
GizmoEl makes a good point.
AztecaAguilar04 - 5/6/2013, 8:44 PM
The cast of The Dark Knight Rises approves Feige's Comment! Lol no but seriously I hope WB and DC start taking chances again after Man Of Steel. because i have never really been a fan of Superman. from what i remember as a kid The animated series was actually not bad. MOS looks promising indeed. can't wait to see a Justice League film.
AmazingFantasy - 5/6/2013, 8:45 PM
KnobGoblin - 5/6/2013, 8:46 PM
Don't listen to him, WB. Do your own thing. Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, V for Vendetta, WATCHMEN > MARVEL Studios
AztecaAguilar04 - 5/6/2013, 8:46 PM
@ Supes i doubt WB will! or they know fanboys will go ape s**t lol.
JerBear - 5/6/2013, 8:47 PM
The Mandarin was Shane Black's doing, not Kevin Feige.
thewonderer - 5/6/2013, 8:48 PM
Marvel also messed up Whiplash and honestly Abomination was pretty lackluster too. His design is also nothing like the comics.

Also wheres Red Skull?
thebearjew - 5/6/2013, 8:48 PM
oh marvel psycho dnt be such a debie downer

But all trolling aside i like kevin feige hes done wonders as producer and its been great seeing iron man and cap etc on the big screen we as the collective nerds are very lucky to be living in a time where comic books are respected as a true art form the way they always should have been treated

i love the big 2
JerBear - 5/6/2013, 8:49 PM
"Don't listen to him, WB. Do your own thing."
So you mean you don't want them to have confidence in their characters or believe in the source material? Stupid fanboy.
