More From Ben Affleck On JUSTICE LEAGUE Rumor; Praises Marvel's THE AVENGERS Efforts

Reiterating that he was never offered the gig, Argo director & actor Ben Affleck mentions that there was a meeting, of sorts, involving Justice League, while also praising Marvel's The Avengers.

Shortly after reports, in early August, revealed that the actor-turned-director was approached by Warner Bros. to helm their long-awaited Justice League film, Ben Affleck debunked the well received claims. Talking with HitFix recently about his hit thriller Argo, Affleck decided to set the record straight yet again, while also praising Marvel Studios and their buildup to The Avengers.

“I just want to make it clear because it’s not like I had something to even pass on. Because someone will eventually do 'Justice League' and they'll go, like, 'Ben Affleck passed on it,' and it won't be true. So I don’t mind setting the record straight. It's one of those things where the closest I came was some people talked to me about it like at a meeting. They were like, 'Here's the stuff we’re doing,' you know? 'Here’s what we're looking at.' That kind of thing. And they suggested it. But I don’t think there’s a script. I don’t think there’s anything.”

“I think there’s a DC 'Avengers' that could be done because they have the characters for it. And there’s some stuff in the comics now that’s kind of interesting, and it’s cool. That's what Marvel does so well. They do a lot of things well, but one of the things that I’m really impressed by is how they coordinated all those movies. I mean, you never see somebody make a whole movie with the eye of, like, building it into new sequels, but that's because you're just hoping it’s a hit and you’ll do it again. But for shooting these kind of satellite movies with the notion that later on you’ll build the planet that they're orbiting around, and coordinating it all ahead of time, and imagining how the story's going to work and flow with Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, it’s a big deal. You don't see that level of organization much in movies. You know what I mean? It's like enough to just get one movie together and off the ground.”

Ultimately, Ben Affleck said he disliked talking about the rumors in the media simply because the stories “shed a negative light” on the DC superhero team-up flick, as HitFix notes. Make the jump here for the rest of the interview; Affleck explains whether he'd be up for similar genre films. Following Man of Steel, Justice League is reportedly next on Warner Bros.' DC Comics slate and is being penned by screenwriter Will Beall. And insiders say the film is aiming for a release in 2015.

What the hell are you talking about? He just said Marvel's good at setting up sequels?

I think you're misreading it buddy, he means you never see somebody ELSE, or rather somebody BEFORE do it. Read the whole quote he says: "I mean, you never see somebody make a whole movie with the eye of, like, building it into new sequels, but that's because you're just hoping it’s a hit and you’ll do it again..."

"You don't see that level of organization much in movies. You know what I mean? It's like enough to just get one movie together and off the ground."

He's stating that what Marvel do well is that they're making a whole movie with the eye of building it forward. Which is a difficult thing to do.
gabriellarkins - 12/20/2012, 12:23 AM
He said most people don't do that, but he praised Marvel because they had that forethought and they made it work. Try reading the whole excerpt before bashing it.
kemuael - 12/20/2012, 12:26 AM
Marvel Rules!!!
dc drools!!!
Nuff said.
marvel54 - 12/20/2012, 12:26 AM
Ben Affleck knows his stuff so people should listen
bonesmcgee - 12/20/2012, 12:29 AM
@ManofSuperguy You need to need to learn how to read, and stop acting like a stereotype. It's embarrassing to read your thoughts when they're so knee-jerk and cartoony.
marvel54 - 12/20/2012, 12:30 AM
ManOfSuperguy you mad bro
Dynamo - 12/20/2012, 12:31 AM
I hope they try to rope him into doing Justice League, because Argo was [frick]ing awesome.

People that can't read are fun to read.
TheFox - 12/20/2012, 12:58 AM
See? Even BEN F%$#ING AFFLECK gets that the biggest success of the Marvel movie universe was building up a series of independent films that led into The Avengers! SO WHY THE F%$# IS DC RUSHING OUT A GODDAMN JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE BEFORE LAYING THE GROUNDWORK OF A SOLID MOVIE UNIVERSE?!?!?

... Sorry. I'm just really getting frustrated with the way Warner Bros. is mismanaging their movie properties. I am, frankly, jealous of the bounty of awesome movies Marvel fans are getting lavished upon them, while we DC fans are lucky to get a good film every two or three years. Where's our Flash movie, Warner Bros? Or Wonder Woman? How 'bout giving us a good Green Lantern movie, or a sequel to redeem the franchise you've already sunk $200 million into?

Man of Steel looks like it's going to be amazing, and I've loved the Dark Knight films, but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH with this Justice League crap. Either Warner Bros. needs to pull its head out of its ass and put off doing a J.L. film so they can build up a PROPER movie universe to set it in, or they're going to find themselves belly-up when their half-assed Justice League film bombs in 2015-- and they're going to utterly decimate every single one of their major comic book movie properties in the process...

JuninhoHanggar - 12/20/2012, 12:58 AM

I agree with you, but he is not wrong just because he is minority. He's wrong because if you look at the facts (the clear answers from Ben), well, you just see that ManOfSuperguy is wrong.
FightAs0ne - 12/20/2012, 1:05 AM

marvel54 - 12/20/2012, 1:07 AM
TheFox i agree with everything you said there are some good dc fans out there
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 12/20/2012, 1:10 AM
Argo is gonna win a shitload of awards.
Darth258 - 12/20/2012, 1:10 AM
I'm italian and i got what he was saying. *thumb up*
RedMosquito - 12/20/2012, 1:13 AM
ManOfSuperguy - Total crash and burn. You should learn to 'measure twice, and cut once'.

The way you just totally misunderstood what he said, and then compounded it by making post after post showing that you just didn't get it, well, that was some funny shit right there!
Coachella - 12/20/2012, 1:18 AM
It doesn't matter how many films marvel puts out. I will always be more of a DC guy.
Kingdork - 12/20/2012, 1:39 AM
I'm French and even I got what he was saying.
thalidomide - 12/20/2012, 2:03 AM
I don't read and even I got what he was saying.
EarOne - 12/20/2012, 2:10 AM
I still think alongside Eric Dane (Grey's Anatomy) and The Hobbit's Richard Armitage (the main dwarf), Ben Affleck's a great pick for an older Bruce Wayne/Batman.
EarOne - 12/20/2012, 2:13 AM
ManofSuperGuy...ummm, sorry...but you're a moron.
figuresmaniac - 12/20/2012, 2:13 AM
@Kingdork LOL!!!!!!!

shamo - 12/20/2012, 2:20 AM
Affleck should direct a Moon Knight or Punihser movie.
shamo - 12/20/2012, 2:21 AM
and lol @ the jealous fanboys.
Happy11 - 12/20/2012, 2:37 AM
@manofsuperguy think you misread the quote don't worry I've done that loads of times.
avengersleagueofjusticeforamerica - 12/20/2012, 2:51 AM
I love how man of superguys intelligence has come out in this thread. I've been arguing with his stupid ass for days now.
Gunslinger - 12/20/2012, 3:45 AM
@ manofsuperguy - your dc troll comments just lowered the planet's IQ dramatically
SaxoWolf - 12/20/2012, 3:52 AM
This is funny, DC/WB are being attacked for not building a DC movie universe like Marvel, but I'm certain if they did follow Marvel's strategy concerning the movies, DC/WB would still be accused as being copycats. there's always someone who's going to complain.

ps: btw, I love movies, i'm not marvelite or nolanite.
tarZen - 12/20/2012, 3:59 AM
How did ManOfSuperguy manage to misread that so horribly? I can't figure out for the life of me how he took it to mean the exact opposite.

He said right there:

"They do a lot of things well, but one of the things that I’m really impressed by is how they coordinated all those movies."
loki668 - 12/20/2012, 4:08 AM
Butthurt and trolling. It's like a retarded version of chocolate and peanut butter.

Lord Loki has spoken
rocky - 12/20/2012, 4:22 AM
Sounds to me that Ben may indeed be interested if shown a proper script.

I think Ben is a terrific director. Not sure if his work would translate to a good JL film but I'd take that gamble. If the "good script" rumors are true they should let Ben take a gander.

I don't think they need to follow in Marvel's footsteps but it would be nice if they started laying the groundwork with MOS

marvel72 - 12/20/2012, 4:58 AM
must thank marvel studios for the avengers, without it there wouldn't be a justice league movie in the works or a fox shared universe happening.
mgeoff88 - 12/20/2012, 5:21 AM
It's nice to hear more people coming out and praising The Avengers. Ben Affleck gets it.

The Avengers was groundbreaking. It's the first CBM to ever do something like that. And it was so well executed too IMO.

@TheFox You're preaching to the choir!!! I wish DC/WB would do more solo films to lay the ground work for Justice League!

Doing Man Of Steel first, but then doing a solo Wonder Woman movie and solo Flash movie after Justice League is released and not before?!?

That's not kosher! DC/WB needs to follow Marvel's formula! Look at how well it worked out!!!!

@thalidomide LOL!
Newbus - 12/20/2012, 5:22 AM
You sketch out one big story arc from beginning to end and fill in each chapter of the story with a film. George Lucas did it with Star Wars and now Marvel are doing it with their films. And it makes sense when you watch the films.

Now Ben Affleck has seen the potential and Fox are playing catchup with the Xmen films. The others are still floundering LOL!
didich - 12/20/2012, 5:31 AM

Haha! You are a perttz obvious troll.
