Kick-Ass 2 Is "About To Be Announced" And Mark Millar Has Plans For TV Shows!

Following the announcement of "Millarworld Studios", The Scottish Sun reveal that an announcement for Kick-Ass 2 is on the way and that the writer has plans for the small screen...

It must be good to be Mark Millar right now. Both he and The Ultimates' artist Bryan Hitch were credited at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger (the same honor is expected for The Avengers too) and the past few weeks have seen announcement after announcement of his various creator owned comic books heading to the big screen. Well, in the same announcement of the formation of "Millarworld Productions", I noticed the following excerpt which seemingly confirms the forthcoming announcement of Kick-Ass.

Mark's sequel to 2010's Kick-Ass is about to be announced and Top Gun director Tony Scott will make Nemesis — about a criminal mastermind who wreaks havoc on police chiefs around the world — which Millar released as a graphic novel last year.

And in even more interesting news, the paper reveals that the prolific comic book writer also has plans to launch projects on the small screen through "Millarworld", although what exactly these will be isn't known at this point. With pretty much every single one of his current comic book creations being developed as movies, whether these will be somehow spin-off's of those, future work or entirely new creations is something it should be very interesting to find out. Here's what Millar had to say:

"I just want to make TV shows that I actually want to watch. I can't stand all the low-end reality shows. I know a lot of the guys making those programmes and they hate them as much as I do. I just want to do real quality here and that can be high-end documentaries or brand new formats as much as quality dramas like The Sopranos or Mad Men. I know the stations' hands are tied because there isn't a lot of money around and so in the long-term I'd like to arrange co-productions with American companies and try to get things rolling again. The studios trust me as long as my movies make money and as long as I don't drop the ball they're happy to invest."

Wanted 2 isn't going to happen without Angelina Jolie. If the first movie had anyone else as Fox, it wouldn't have made even half of what it did.

Millar has gone the way of Loeb and Frank Miller; a writer who was once THE writer for a comic series who has now basically gone insane.

What's up with all the Millar hype lately?
DrCKasady - 10/28/2011, 1:31 PM
agreed. kick ass 2 is a good comic. but the fist movie was so good that i don't think a sequel would best it.
im all for watching a second movie. i just know it wouldn't be as good as the first.

an american jesus movie would be interesting.

The performances in Kick-Ass 1 were great -- especially Cage's Adam West-like attitude when in costume -- but the story and especially the directing were crap.

@sparrowsabre- I'd add Alan Moore to that list as well, but he's always been crazy.

I've been thinking that a Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl animated cartoon would be cool.
