Brian J. White Wants To Play Luke Cage

Another actor has thrown his hat in the Luke Cage casting ring. Worstpreviews.com(via moviehole) has comments from Brian J. White...
Actor and former NFL player Brian J. White ("DOA: Dead or Alive," "Fighting") has revealed that he would love the chance to bring Power Man himself, Luke Cage to life on the big screen..

"I would love to be Luke Cage," he told Moviehole. "I've been saying it over and over again in the press for years! Those are the roles - Green Lantern, Green Hornet, Luke Cage. There's some other graphic novels – some horror ones – that I also like, but I really would love to do Luke Cage."

He continued: "I think I have the skill-set. Like Iron Man, you have to be able to handle drama and comedy; you have to have the physique to be able to take off your shirt; you have to have a certain statue – if you're 5'8 it doesn't really work so well, unless it's a small superhero – and you have to have a certain athletic ability. That's what I'm angling towards. These are $150 million movies, so I'm trying to pay my dues, and do the work, so that I might get a look-in."

It's been over two years since Tyrese Gibson revealed that a script for a Luke Cage feature film was being written and that he and director John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood, Four Brothers) were on standby to begin working on the project. Aside from Gibson saying that he still wants to make the movie, nothing concrete has been heard about it since.

He might do a better job...but he's too much of a pretty boy...Luke is rugged...i can see tyrese but i just don't have the confidence in either actor...i think Ty would try too hard. Brian would prolly make Luke too sincere and whatnot. Tyrese has the new Luke look...Brian i think is a better actor...but i guess we'll see what happens.
TheREALHumanTorch - 8/22/2009, 10:00 AM
HONESTLLY, TERRY CREWS WOULD BE AWSOME
GUNSMITH - 8/22/2009, 10:00 AM

TYREESE GIBSON is the only man for CAGE!

LEEE777 - 8/22/2009, 10:40 AM
Crews looks like a freak of nature. He could pass for fat chick in that picture. What has he been in anyway?

Iv never heard of this Brian J. White dude. I'm not a fan of Gibson's either though.
Rorschach01 - 8/22/2009, 10:44 AM
Tyrese is only 6' tall...needs to be a guy near 6'4"
DDD - 8/22/2009, 10:44 AM
Damn... Yeah Crews looks just like him, same build and everything.
DDDDDD and tea, I agree.
DarthMulder - 8/22/2009, 10:45 AM
No Gibson...........Crews :P
teabag - 8/22/2009, 10:45 AM
Now there's Jamal Duff, he's 6'8" but he wasn't much of an actor in dodgeball...but he is an actor...was also in Grid Iron with Rock...ex-bootball player.
DDD - 8/22/2009, 10:46 AM
Ror Terry has been in more films then Ron Jerremy...Recently he was in TS and is the dad in Everybody hates Chris :)

Lets face it only one man could of been the perfect Luke Cage......

Carl Weathers

:P
teabag - 8/22/2009, 10:55 AM
I'd go with Crews for Cage, for lack of a better choice. I don't know who this White guy is but I guess he looks the part.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 10:59 AM
Brian J White was good in the Shield but I think he is too light in my opinion.
Terry Crews or Idris Elba from The Wire in my opinion

breakUbatman - 8/22/2009, 11:05 AM
CREWS makes a good CAPTAIN AMERICA! ; D

TEA @ I saw WEATHERS in a comic book movie the other day called PHOO!!!
LEEE777 - 8/22/2009, 11:07 AM
Ok, who da hell is B.A.?

Brian is too light for the part. Terry is better (great) choice. Never thought about Idris for a super hero movie, but i think he could possibly pull it off. Terry still #1 choice. Like RDJ is for Tony!
telavizion - 8/22/2009, 11:08 AM
Idris Elba isn't a bad choice. It'd be cool to see a Cage cameo in Avengers, but it won't happen. I don't think I would go see a full-length movie about Cage though. Cage isn't the most interesting character to me.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 11:09 AM
no Idris would be a better Falcon than Luke...Idris seems he could pull that one off. Are you guys interested in someone who looks like the character or someone who can actually act? Terry's funny but i don't see him pulling off the Luke role.
TheREALHumanTorch - 8/22/2009, 11:15 AM
Talavizion@ B.A.........

:P
teabag - 8/22/2009, 11:20 AM
Yo tea, im mad at ur avatar!
telavizion - 8/22/2009, 11:23 AM
AAAAAAAHHHHH yes ...i havent used it for ages , thought it needed airing :P
teabag - 8/22/2009, 11:28 AM
Yeah, @Tea Jamal is not a good match to Luke but I was just tryin' to illustrate that a midget like Tyrese is totally wrong for the part! There are some big actors out there besides shorter guys to play the part.
DDD - 8/22/2009, 11:30 AM
And Tyrese sucks at acting. Crews isn't a bad actor IMO.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 11:32 AM
Yeah, Carl would have been good for Cage but he's about ready for the Home now!
DDD - 8/22/2009, 11:33 AM
Crews can really act...I've seen him in comedy, drama, action, he was believable in them all.
DDD - 8/22/2009, 11:34 AM
Crews for me :)
teabag - 8/22/2009, 11:37 AM

InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 11:40 AM
I liked him alot in The Shield. So I'm ok with him getting the part.
stupify_me - 8/22/2009, 11:55 AM
I am totally with Terry Crewes as Luke Cage. Seriously, this guy's been in enough movies in even small roles, and its enough to see that he has acting ability, hell, the guy makes me laugh, and I'm sure he could do serious. He just keeps getting type cast in these goofy roles, but he pulls it off. I agree, we should have a poll similar to the Captain America one. Terry Crewes and Ray Park in, "Heroes for Hire" damn it would rock.
TheMyth - 8/22/2009, 11:58 AM
Terry Crewes for CAGE im with the myth.

@ LEEE really u didnt comment my first post?

Tyresse is also a good fit BUT terry could do it like the myth said hes been in a enough and has the experience to step it up a notch
Set2Fallfirst - 8/22/2009, 12:06 PM
OMG teabag!!! what's up with that pic!!!?
i cant tell exactly what is going on....but i'm sure i dont wanna know!!!
LMAO

Kes - 8/22/2009, 12:26 PM
ROR-

BRIAN WHITE was in the Shield, and based on his performance on that show, I could ABSOLUTELY see him pulling off LUKE CAGE. He's a pretty big guy, and could easily bulk up some more.

He was in a great fight on the show (which he lost) but if i remember correctly he threw the other dude (good size too) all over the place....actually that was a really good fight! lol. He only lost cuz the dude hit him with an iron. When I get off work, i'll see if i can find a youtube video.
Talontd - 8/22/2009, 12:50 PM
Talontd- YOU'RE STILL A C*NT. Crews over Gibson anyday!
ASSASSIN666 - 8/22/2009, 12:56 PM
LEE: Crews was MY pick for Captain America in my 'Young Avengers TV Show Fan Cast'!!!

ROR: Ive seen Crews in The Longest Yard and Street Kings (in which he was pretty good) as well as the TV show, My Name is Chris! He's a great comedy actor but also pretty great at playing a scary bad ass!

Terry Crews would also be my choice for Luke Cage as Ive said before!!!

Luke Cage

joshw24 - 8/22/2009, 1:22 PM
Yeah thats what I know him most for is comedy roles. He also had a small role in Malibu's Most Wanted. He is very scarey when he dances.
longbowhunter - 8/22/2009, 1:28 PM
Set2Fall @ Where is it dude???
LEEE777 - 8/22/2009, 1:39 PM
lol longbow@ i remember when it cut to him dancin in malibu's most wanted i fell out of my seat laughin i was cryin and everythin its so funny when he starts dancin.....like in longest yard when he starts to do the robot and chris rock says "thats a bigass robot" lol
SabretoothTiger - 8/22/2009, 1:53 PM
hey i suggested crews a long time ago on one of hawks old articles, glad its catching on.
NJdevil12 - 8/22/2009, 2:35 PM
Erkle for Cage and Captain America.

SirPrize@ lol ...insert face pic here!!! :)
teabag - 8/22/2009, 3:13 PM
Michael Jai White all the way I can see him as Luke Cage

kyle12688 - 8/22/2009, 3:58 PM
POWER MAN AND IRON FIST!!
Imran - 8/22/2009, 4:24 PM
Folks,

The best pick to bring Luke Cage to the screen is... Henry Simmons! Has the identical comicbook facial features, statue, build and voice, and edge. He would definitely pull it off and do a great job. Hey, how do you put pick up here so you guys can see who I'm talking about?....
CROVL - 8/22/2009, 4:55 PM
Terry Crews for Cage! Tyrese and Brian aren't built for Cage. Terry has the build and besides all the comedy he has done he can act seriously too. For action credentials, he is going to be in the new Stallone flick The Expendables and I think I saw him in the trailer for Gamer starring Gerard Butler. He can do it.
icebergslick - 8/22/2009, 5:02 PM
Ya know I almost forgot about Henry, @CROVL, you're absolutely right! He's 6'4" tall...perfect for the part...now that's what I was sayin' someone that height.

I also like him for Martian Manhunter.
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:05 PM
But between Crews and Simmons I'd have to go with Crews because of his well-rounded acting skills.
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:09 PM
DDD: Carl Lumbly = Martian Manhunter (voiced him in the animated series)

InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 5:11 PM
Yeah, it needs to be Power Man and Iron Fist.
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:15 PM
Terry Crews/Henry Simmons = Luke Cage

Charlie Hunnam = Iron Fist
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 5:17 PM
@Tyler, Carl Lumbly is too old for MM, I'm afraid. But he is a fantastic actor.
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:18 PM
Charlie Hunam! Man he's perfect for Iron Fist!
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:18 PM
I'd go with CGI/Motion capture for the physical part of MM, and Lumbly could do the voice, like with Silver Surfer.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 5:19 PM
He is fantastic on Sons of Anarchy! But how could anyone go wrong with ol' Pearlman!
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:19 PM
Henry Simmon's CGI/MOCAP body and Carl Lumbly's voice...now that sounds like an ideal combo!
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:20 PM
Anything featuring The Perl Man is awesome...except Alien Resurrection, but we won't count that...
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 5:21 PM
He was standout in Ressurrection but it was quite cartoon-like.
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:22 PM
I'd rather see Tyrese Gibson in the role.
Bandrews1 - 8/22/2009, 5:22 PM
I'd rather not.... IMO :)
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 5:24 PM
So that was Lumbly in the animated MM, I thought that voice sounded familiar! What a voice!!
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:24 PM
Tyrese is a mijit compared to Crews and Simmons
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:25 PM
Yeah, I'd rather not have another Vinnie Jones fake muscle Juggernaut fiasco again.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 5:29 PM
BTW, Tyler, I'm coloring Cap Oz now and will then put the word balloon in and then I'll be finished soon.
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:30 PM
Yeah, WTF, couldn't they find an actor with muscles of his own to play Juggie!
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:31 PM
DDD: Looking forward to it :)
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 5:32 PM
I can't see Juggernaut having much diaolg so why not someone with huge muskles who can say at least 2 words together. Sheesh, what non-imagination is that! It looked so fake it was almost laughable. Of course we're aware of who made the movie! NO IMAGINATION!
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:35 PM
The only GOOD thing in X3 was Kelsey Grammer.
DDD - 8/22/2009, 5:37 PM
Anyhoo, back to Sam-I-am, Cappy Ozball!

InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 5:40 PM
non of you get it Michael Jai white is luke cage he's got the build Undisputed II: Last Man Standing there is no one better
kyle12688 - 8/22/2009, 5:41 PM
DDD: man, i cannot wait to see Captain Ozzy, lol! :)
joshw24 - 8/22/2009, 5:41 PM

THAT'S WORTHINGTON?!?!?! He looks so short and small!
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 5:45 PM
wow, he looks like a freaking wimp in that pic!! no way is he big enough or tall enough to play Captain America!!! i mena if i hadnt thought he was wrong for the part before now THIS would have made up my mind, lol!
joshw24 - 8/22/2009, 5:48 PM

DDD - 8/22/2009, 6:03 PM
If I could re-write the movies, I would have had Henry Simmon play Al Simmons a.k.a. Spawn for the movie. If they do a reboot, maybe he could do it.

Micheal Jai White is was good, I just think Henry Simmons would have translated from the comic better. Micheal J. White would be awesome as Cage, because he's got that gritty, "I may have just got out of prison" look, as well the voice, stature and physique.

But my philosophy on comic book roles is, one you've done one, that's all you should do. Move over and let someone else have a shot.

Since Wesley Snipes IS Blade, he should not be consider for Black Panther...my pick would Morris Chesnut and Djimon Hundsou as the older Panther.

Ryan Reynolds has no business playing Green Lantern when he makes a perfect Deadpool. That decision was totally whack!...

Dwayne "Rock" Johnson all the way for Namor, the Submariner...

Jessica Biel for Wonder Woman...

Carl Lumbly for Martian Manhunter...

Patrick Dempsey as Hal Jordan...

Ryan Kwanten as The Flash...

CROVL as John Stewart...(I'm just putting that out there)

Just my thoughts...
CROVL - 8/22/2009, 8:24 PM
Playing multiple comic book characters is not a big deal at all. A lot of fans blow it way out of proportion.

Luke Goss/Jason Behr = Namor

The Rock = Black Adam no question

Taylor Cole for Wonder Woman

Carl Lumbly for MM

Ryan Reynolds is Hal Jordan

Chris Evans/Matthew Fox for The Flash (Wally and Barry, respectively)

Idris Elba for John Stewart
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/22/2009, 8:59 PM
MARVEL!!!!!!

Will you hurry up and make this movie!!!!!

Like I've said before...WE NEED MORE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMIC BOOK MOVIES!! If anyone in Hollywood has learned anything, a movie like this could work. What about women heroes????? It seem like they gave it one try with Catwoman and that was it!

MARVEL/DC.....People want to see heroes who they can RELATE TOO. So give me Wonder Women, Black Lightning, Luke Cage, Black Panther, and Hawk Girl!!!
Unmasked - 8/22/2009, 9:01 PM
Terry Crews is pitch perfect for Luke Cage. He has the build and acting ability that will suit Cage fine. A Heroes For Hire movie would kick so much ass.
Geekautomaton - 8/22/2009, 9:02 PM
Terry Crews!
NataliaRomanov - 8/23/2009, 2:04 AM
The Rock for Luke Cage!!!
scribe - 8/23/2009, 3:55 AM
CREWS! all the way.
wards - 8/23/2009, 4:01 AM
Henry Simmons from "NYPD blue" is my #1 choice for cage. He has the size and the acting chops that marvel has been selecting for there movies as of late. You can hardly say that about gibson or crews.
andyoung2002 - 8/23/2009, 5:49 AM
Ror,
Brian J. White was one of the 2 actors I suggested who should play War Machine many months back when I was disappointed about Don Cheadle getting the role (since if Don Cheadle had a gun to my head and a knife to my throat I still wouldn't be afraid that he could kick my ass at that point).

I am one of the biggest diehard fans of "The Shield" that there is and that was one of Brian's most significant roles to date. He was only a part-time character in the show but he was really good when he did get some time.

The reason I suggested him for War Machine (although I'm not sure whether or not I'd vote on him for Cage) was because:
(a) He looks more like Rhodey than Cheadle does.
(b) He has that bad-ass, mean look and presence BUT also conveys the feeling that he has a good heart.

That, to me, is the most important trait that they should've looked for when they were casting Rhodey. Cheadle just does not come off as tough and therefore he is missing that necessary character trait which Rhodey/War Machine should have.

Also, if you want to sample Brian J. White, don't go by movies like "Fighting" where clearly he just took the role to get work. Check him out in "The Shield." If you don't watch "The Shield" then you're missing out on one of the best shows of all time. But you gotta start with season 1 and watch them all. It's one long story throughout all 7 seasons and nothing happens in any one season that doesn't come back down the line somewhere. Brian (Detective Tavon Garris) makes his debut late in season 2. Seriously, check it out. It's a great show.
MetalHead - 8/23/2009, 8:53 AM
Also, I guess I would vote for Brian to get the role of Cage and what would put me over the top is the fact that he really is a good guy with a good character. I did some researching on his life a while back and he does a lot of pro-active things to benefit the world. He is a youth activist, among other things. He's a very smart and educated guy and I'd like for him to succeed just because of the fact that he is actually a good person.

Ok, I'll admit, there is one other reason why I have a soft spot for him-- he's from Boston (as am I) and he was a former Patriot, which is the team which I religiously follow.

So he gets my vote, BUT I wouldn't be disappointed at all if Terry Crews got the role, either. Maybe it's not too late to delete Cheadle's scenes as Rhodey and re-shoot them!!!
MetalHead - 8/23/2009, 9:04 AM
METALHEAD-

I knew he was a Patriot, but didn't know he was originally from Boston! I'm from originally from Worcester so that seals it for me!!

Also it's always good to know someone is actually a decent person. He might not be my first pick, but i definately won't be hating if he got the part.

ASSASSIN-

Awww, how cute.....you follow me around on here like a lil itty bitty puppy!!

Puppy wanna treat? Puppy speak! What's today's vulgar insult???

Your an obnoxious child who clearly has issues, seeing as you feel it necessary to join a board to do nothing but pick fights...."Internet Tough-Guy" i believe is the term. Your clearly overcompensating for something. I think you need to take a breath, relax, and reflect....seriously.
Talontd - 8/23/2009, 9:42 AM
Just about excited to see a Luke Cage movie as I was to see an Ant-Man movie.

In other words:

PASS.
bropous - 8/23/2009, 10:27 AM
Talontd,
Yeah, his father was actually on the Celtics, too. I'm with you-- the fact that he's not just some thug trying to get rich really does make you hope that he'll be successful. Like I said, I would've chose him to be Rhodey in a heartbeat and that might've ended up being the big break from him. I'm also a fan of the idea of giving a guy a part if he wants it prior to it being available because it means that they truly do have interst in the role as opposed to taking a role because it's available and because it's a paycheck. So we'll see what happens but if nothing else you can be happy to support the guy.
MetalHead - 8/23/2009, 11:37 AM
@METALHEAD-

Well said, and I agree 100%. Most of the time you end up supporting people in this business purely based on talent. That's all well and good but occasionally something will hit the press concerning a celebs character off-screen which kind of makes you feel dumb for supporting them.

Thanks for enlightening me to his off-screen activities, and since i personally think he's talented, i'll be sure to watch his next film in the theater.

Cheers.
Talontd - 8/23/2009, 12:53 PM
tyrese gibson from BABYBOY? NO THANKS! and crew was in Friday After Next so HELL NO! those 2 are a joke we need someone a little less silly please
Makiveli21 - 8/23/2009, 2:01 PM
@DDD: Yeah, Crews for Cage!!!
TheCritic17 - 8/23/2009, 5:32 PM
Only reason to throw Tyrese in the Luke Cage movie would be if the movie studio did not want people to go see it. I love Luke Cage so much I had to register to this site after 2 years of just reading to help put a stop to this Tyrese garbage.
CartmanTheHutt - 8/24/2009, 12:25 AM
Crews for Cage, Statham for Rand: HEROES FOR HIRE!!!

RAY PARK CAN'T ACT WORTH A DAMN!!!!!! Since everyone's bent on getting someone that can fight, why not give IronFist to Ralph Macchio while you're all at it!!! REALISTICALLY SPEAKING, you all do realise that you need AN ACTOR for the role, right?!?!?!?! Statham acts AND fights, he's way better than Park for Rand!!!
Shaman - 8/24/2009, 6:38 AM
@SHAMAN-

Good call, I could definately get behind STATHAM for RAND.....however, i am surprised to hear you nominate him, thought you weren't a fan of STATHAM?
Talontd - 8/24/2009, 9:57 AM
statham is way good i like all the movies hes done except for In The Name Of The King that movie sucked ass hahah but ya hes a better iron fist i mean parks a good fighter but i bet statham would own him in a hand to hand fight haha
SabretoothTiger - 8/24/2009, 10:41 AM
Hell no to Tyrese playing Luke Cage. He's way too small and doesnt have the intimidating swag to pull it off. Again, get a noname. I agree with Teabag. Carl Weathers would have been dope as the old school Cage. Michael Jai. White IS PERFECT but I know people will hate on him because of the Spawn movie.
