Mandrake

Mandrake Mandrake the Magician is a syndicated newspaper comic strip, created by Lee Falk (The Phantom), which began June 11, 1934. Mandrake is a magician whose work is based on an unusually fast hypnotic technique. As noted in captions, when Mandrake "gestures hypnotically", his subjects see illusions, and Mandrake has used this technique in his battles with a variety of gangsters, mad scientists, extraterrestrials and characters from other dimensions. Mandrake has been produced across all media including an early radio show and 1939 movie serial, but most recently in 2009 it was announced to become a film starring Hayden Christensen and Djimon Hounsou, but nothing has been heard since then.
Puss In Boots scribe Tom Wheeler has been set by Warner Bros. to rewrite their Mandrake The Magician film, while Universal has hired Contraband writer Aaron Guzikowski to pen a new take on Moby Dick (which will be directed by Wanted's Timur Bekmambetov).
