Avengers: Dark Reign
My ideal Avengers story.

After the events of the Kree Skrull invasion the World Security Council dismiss Nick Fury and appoint Norman Osborne as acting Director os SHIELD. In his lust for more power he assembles a group of supervillains to form the Cabal.
THE CABAL:
Norman Osborne
Doctor Doom
Kingpin
Loki
Namor
Sebastion Shaw
Red Skull
Together they form a plot not only to discredit the major superheroes housed in New York but to gain control of the world without the world goverments knowing it. In total agreement the Cabal allows Norman to form a group of supervillains to pose as heroes called the Thunderbolts. With Kingpin's connections they are able to stage various acts of criminal activity so the Thunderbolts will be able to stop and gain public trust.

The Avengers fall into suspition very quickly along with the rest of New York's superhero community. Cap assures them that they will keep everything well in hand. Against the protests of Spider-man and Wolverine. While doing some digging together Spider-man and Wolverine are able to find clues that connect the crimes to the Kingpin. Who also just recently joined as a subdivision with Oscorp to become a massive corperate conglamerate. Cause harm to Stark Industires in the philanthrapy department. Going with their evidence to the Avengers, they are dismissed by Thor who relate the message to Captain America and Iron Man. Becoming concerned over the message he, Hawkeye, and Black Widow decide to infiltrate Oscrop Tower. Becoming discovered by an alarm they find another group of supervillains called the Masters of Evil. Completly out numbered they attempt to run. However they are caught and beaten half dead. When they eventually revive they see Norman with the Cabal. Norman gloats over his master plan to ruin them and replace them. Then to do the same thing with every other major superhero in New York and beyond. After finally escaping Cap Hawkeye and Black Widow contact the rest of the Avengers outside Oscorp Tower. Who show up only to battle the Thunderbolts. ANd with half their team beaten the rest lose quickly. However Osborne then stops the Thunderbolts from killing the Avengers because "They didn't have they heart to kill the vicious intruders."

With the Avengers reputation under question they are hunted down by the police, various crime lords, and SHIELD under the Cabal's direction. Forcing the Avengers into hiding. They decide to expand their ranks to defeat the Cabal and clear their name.

NEW AVENGERS:
Spider-man
Wolverine
Ms. Marvel
Black Panther

Yellow Jacket

With these new recruites Cap and Iron Man are certain they stand a chance against the supervillain army. They under the advice and shelter of Charels Xavier are hidden in their Avengers Mansion. Until the Cabal systematicly attacks the X Mansion and the Baxter Building and learns of their where abouts. Deciding to obtain weapons from Asgard to ensure any potential resistence from an outside force and be squashed they lay seige to the Avengers mansion with the Masters of Evil leading the charge followed cloesly by the Thunderbolts. While all out war ensues the Cabal make their way to Starks portal to Asgard. The Cabal then begin to devestate any resistence against them in Asgard. Until they reach Odin's weapons chamber. While The Avengers find their way to Asgard Norman and Loki send the creature Mangog after them. Mangog the embodiment of evil and haterd the Cabal posesses are a force. Being unable to defeat the monster and under the advice of Xavier they take the fight to the Cabal. And after their eventual defeat the monster Mangog falls. But only after he causes GREAT destruction across New York. After the Avengers and other heroes aid in the clean up, the UScongress begins to write up the SUPERHUMAN REGISTRATION ACT.
