Sadly though, the interview was obviously conducted by a man so low on the intelligence meter he barely registers. Joshua Rich, for better or worse, brought such naiveté to the interview that you have to feel sorry for Bale. In response to Bale’s comment that ''Knowing the Dark Knight story, I would like very much to complete a trilogy,” Rich editorialized; Whoa. So does that mean that this sequel leaves the door open for another movie? Would they really do it?
If it was me interviewing the great Batman, that would not have come as such a surprise. The Christopher Nolan directed Batman reboot was always to be a sequel, as shown by the contracts signed. Also, if he had paid any attention to the news regarding Aaron Eckhart’s character Harvey Dent, he would know what they were setting up.
That being said, Christian Bale was tightlipped about whether there would be a third. This isn’t a surprise, considering the professional way that Bale often looks at his work. He will be thinking that he doesn’t want to jinx a third movie, and subsequently responds to naïve reporters accordingly.
Rich naturally asked Bale about working with Heath Ledger, and the star of the movie was happy to respond.
“Yeah, I'm absolutely fine talking about him. You know, I don't like kind of trivializing the tragedy in conjunction with an interview to do with the movie, which is clearly far less important. But Heath was a joy. He really was like that, because he was a very unique man. I enjoyed watching him work, working with him — you know, we had a lot of the old gang from the first one together, and then there were new members, Heath obviously included. What was so great to see with Heath is just how seriously he took it. And we don't mean in any way to sound sort of pretentious with that, but just in the fact that if we don't take it seriously, then how can any audience ever take it seriously? And he did one hell of a job.”
