Cool Infographic: Film Franchises And Who Owns What?

With Walt Disney buying LucasFilm/Star Wars, here is a rather cool infographic that shows us which movie studio owns various film franchises. From 20th Century Fox/X-Men/Avatar to Warner Bros. Pictures/DC/The Hobbit and more. Check it out...

These are mostly the important franchises, even though films like Jack Ryan and Jack Reacher still haven't been released yet. But it's interesting to see who owns what, and as you can see, each studio has more than one big franchise. Thanks to for the heads up.

Excellent graphic, and first!
GoILL - 11/5/2012, 3:49 PM
Man Lionsgate has some shitty franchises.
Folchibas - 11/5/2012, 3:51 PM
LOL. I was thinking the same thing.
Folchibas - 11/5/2012, 3:52 PM
Not about Disney. About Lionsgate.
SmellofDuty - 11/5/2012, 3:53 PM
Poooooooor Lionsgate, they have no empire. Disney's lowest Janitor could buy them.
KnobGoblin - 11/5/2012, 3:53 PM
Man, Universal sucks these days. Shame, considering they were once one of the biggest studios in Hollywood.
The14thAvenger - 11/5/2012, 3:54 PM
no one find it odd harry potter isnt on the WB?
IDKwhatToChoose - 11/5/2012, 3:54 PM
Even though Lionsgate has crappy films they have very profitable films... Twilight and Hunger Games..
Sevairity - 11/5/2012, 3:55 PM
Disney should TOTALLY buy DC. LOL! More animated series, better movie production, etc.
SmellofDuty - 11/5/2012, 3:55 PM
Paramount needs to make a major move, they have nearly twice as many options as Disney. Then again with Marvel Disney has unlimited options…
SmellofDuty - 11/5/2012, 3:58 PM
I like how universal has "The Universal Monsters" When was the last one released? 1932? Or does that involve any movie containing those characters?
95 - 11/5/2012, 4:00 PM
This isn't complete, but very well done.

Damn Sony you're lucky you have James Bond and that MIB 3 was good this year.
JordanKing - 11/5/2012, 4:02 PM
In 10 years time, Disney will own everything on that page. You heard it here first.
rubbish78 - 11/5/2012, 4:02 PM
Harry Potter is WB, right?
GoILL - 11/5/2012, 4:02 PM

That is true.

Isn't the Harry Potter franchise done on film?
marvel72 - 11/5/2012, 4:02 PM
disney are very powerful in the movie industry, please buy back one of these franchises at least.

1st fantastic four
2nd x-men
3rd spider-man

didn't put ghost rider on the list of buy backs,it won't be long before the rights return for free.
zachman2013 - 11/5/2012, 4:06 PM
Pretty sure Indiana Jones belongs with Disney now.
BLACKTHORN - 11/5/2012, 4:10 PM
how come disney bought marvel and x men and deadpool didnt come in the package...
maxleresistant - 11/5/2012, 4:15 PM
lionsgate was created in 1997. I say that's not bad,
almost all the other company are a 100 years old (SONY is columbia pictures who was created in 1919 and bought by SONY in 1989
Lionsgate have shitty big franchise, but still they produced movies like Dogma, American Psycho, crash, lord of war and a little Movie called KICK ASS
maxleresistant - 11/5/2012, 4:17 PM
@blackthorn, because 12 years ago, Marvel made a lot of crappy deals with big studios just to make a quick buck.
Now they cry everyday because of how much it was stupid
jaycr - 11/5/2012, 4:23 PM
Disney should buy WB, are you nuts or just stupid? Disney is the worst company, they turn their properties into lame pink girl friendly BS!!! I can't wait for the first Marvel Musical featuring Justine Beiber and The Jonas Brothers.
RR51 - 11/5/2012, 4:24 PM
The guy has Final Destination on the graph but not Harry Potter.
maxleresistant - 11/5/2012, 4:25 PM
I would have added one franchise to warner bros:
Christopher Nolan!
since the dude made every one of his movies with warner since Insomnia (his second movies)

@Pux didn't know about that, well I guess it's understandable then
FilmsFan - 11/5/2012, 4:26 PM
I just don't understand WB!
They earn constantly more than any other studio in last decade due to HP & Batman!
2008, 2009, 2010 they were No.1! With Paramount at 2nd!
In 2011 both exchanged places!

This year WB is at 2nd with 100 million behind Sony!
& Sony only have Skyfall coming!
& Disney is at 3rd with only Lincoln & Monster Inc (re-release)!

While WB has The Hobbit!
& couldve The Great Gatsby as well of it wasn't moved to May 2013!!

I just don't get that even after earning so much with such consistency; WHY CAN'T THEY THINK? & BUILD JUSTICE LEAGUE & other franchises!!
Stupid studio just don't know what to do!
CharlesLord - 11/5/2012, 4:28 PM
somebody needs to take resident evil way from sony
FilmsFan - 11/5/2012, 4:32 PM
... & I agree to the earlier point:

Christopher Nolan should be included in WB as a Franchise!
TDK is No.1 at US box office for WB!
TDKR is NO.1 at US box office!
Inception is at No.7! & the highest grossing original film!

Plus MAN OF STEEL & his future films; including Wally Pfsiter's 120 Million$ TRANSENDENCE!!

NOLAN is a WB franchise & the most powerfully branded one!!
JorLBola - 11/5/2012, 4:35 PM
Disney wins!! Obviously
KnobGoblin - 11/5/2012, 4:38 PM
I bet FOX is pissed about STAR WARS being at Disney. They're never gonna let go of the rights to X-MEN now.
SageMode - 11/5/2012, 4:38 PM

Exactly. Of how expanded the MCU would be if the Fantastic Four-related properties get included would be [frick]in epic.

Only if.......
sharkman03191 - 11/5/2012, 4:39 PM
20th Century Fox has the most, but Disney has the most profitable.
Brady1138 - 11/5/2012, 4:46 PM
Handy. Now I can actually explain to friends what the heck is going on in Hollywood.
Brady1138 - 11/5/2012, 4:48 PM
Poor Terminator still can't find a home.
MJPETTY7 - 11/5/2012, 4:50 PM
Very helpful. Thank you!
parascythe - 11/5/2012, 5:00 PM
hope they include LEGENDARY
tilite1981 - 11/5/2012, 5:05 PM
i really feel the fantastic four wont make the deadline of a year and a half from now. I just think that fox is going to drop the ball and not get it started by then. So bam emperor disney will get the fantastic four for nothing cause fox will have nothing to wager in extending the fantastic four license. Lets hope disney has a deal with a director say Josh Trank to just hold off on Fantastic Four and then just do it in a year and a half when its with Disney.
eleven59 - 11/5/2012, 5:06 PM
Maybe Disney will trade star wars for xmen and FF lol
JerBear - 11/5/2012, 5:27 PM
Are you effin serious? *facepalm*
DarthTesla - 11/5/2012, 5:43 PM
Alright Lionsgate, get to work on that Texas Chainsaw/Madea crossover.
Deadpool17 - 11/5/2012, 5:49 PM
I actually feel good about marvel being at Disney. For the longest time DC has had WB backing it, and now that marvel has a super mega company behind it..... Oh my god. If they made a second Roger Rabbit movie.... In theory... We could see Marvel and DC characters interacting. There should still be a Marvel vs DC fighting game at the very least.
